Life hasn't been easy for Ethan. He had to leave his last foster home after Mrs. Girardi had a heart attack. Now he's living with Mr. and Mrs. Ashdale. They are nice folks, and thanks to them, he's no longer involved with the Nine Eight gang.

Ethan is spending the summer taking pictures. He is part of a new program at the local community center called Picture This. Just about every minute of every day he's got his camera in hand and is taking photos of everything.

When he finds himself the victim of a mugging-style attack in a back alley, Ethan refuses to hand over his backpack because he can't imagine parting with his prized camera. He escapes his attacker and thinks of the incident as a random event until several days later someone breaks into the home of his foster parents and ransacks the place.

Several other incidents occur, including a shooting that seems to have him as the intended target. As the police become involved, Ethan begins to feel more like a suspect than a victim. His earlier gang involvement has law enforcement officers thinking he must be up to something to have guns firing in his direction.

Ethan is determined to figure out what is going on and, at the same time, protect his life with the best family he's ever had. As long as Mr. and Mrs. Ashdale continue to believe in him, he is confident that things will work out.

At just over 100 pages, PICTURE THIS by Norah McClintock offers readers an amazing amount of action and mystery. Ethan is portrayed as the typical at-risk, big city teen trying to improve his life. Readers will cheer him on as he works to hang onto his new life.

I read “Picture This” and I think it’s a very interesting book to read. The beginning of the book it brings the reader attention of what’s happening. When I first took the book and I looked at the book cover, I thought it would be about dream and the main character is trying to picture it. It’s easy to read. I encourage everyone who loves action and mystery to read it. It’s kind of sad what happen to the main character’s parent.
I also like the end of the book because the main character achieved what he been working on. While I was reading the book I could visualize what it’s going step by step, and each time I read it get more and more interesting that pushed me to finish reading it. I found out it’s easy to read, there is some characters that were confused.
My favorite part in the book is when Ethan which is the main character tried really hard not to loose his camera because he loves taking picture. He went through tough situation that he was almost dies. If you want to know what happened to Ethan’s camera I recommend you read this book to find out. I liked how the author used many words to describe what going on like for example for the gun shot it showed how the sound of the gun.

The book Picture This is about a foster kid named Ethan trying to get away from his past. In the past Ethan was involved in a gang and was rivals with a gang called the nine-eights. Ethan moved into a foster home with three other kids. He is a part of a photography class to keep him out of trouble. One day after class, Ethan took a shortcut into an alley. A man was following him. Once Ethan turned around the man had a gun up to his head and told Ethan to give up the camera or else. Ethan doesn’t know if the gun is real or fake. Do you think Ethan will run or give up the camera? The author’s purpose for writing this story was to show difficulties that a teenager is going through and that teenagers go through a lot at a young age. The intended audience for this story was teenagers because the book explains a teenager going through multiple problems and I think it shows readers that you can get through situations.
Picture this is a book with a lot of plot twists. The book is mixed with horror and drama that keeps it interesting and makes you want to read more. What made me want to keep reading this book is the author always left you with something exciting after each chapter. One thing that I didn’t like about the book is the author made up characters that didn’t even have to do with the situation in the book and he just threw someone’s name in it.
Overall this book showed me a lot of lessons like don’t get involved with bad people because they can put you in bad situations. Also it showed me not to be scared to do or say what I think is right. . I would recommend this book to middle school and high school because the book is more about what a teen goes through and I don’t think that younger kids would get it. While reading the book I learned that life is hard and that many situations will come but you can get through it.

The novel, Picture This, by Norah McClintock is a remarkable realistic fiction read. The protagonist, Ethan, carries his camera wherever he goes. He doesn't know that his camera holds secrets that people want to know about or get rid of. Officer Ferelli helps Ethan by investigating who is after Ethan’s camera. Mrs. Elaine Miller who went missing years ago, suddenly becomes a major part in the story. Robert Miller, an officer, tries to hide the truth. Ethan did not know that he had all the answers on his camera.
Picture This is a sensational mystery novel. While the amount of investigation made this very interesting, the the action filled storyline made this an exciting read. The characters’ personalities helped make this stand out. The really intense scenes were one of the main reasons the book stands . This will grab the interest of readers who enjoy mysteries. It is suitable to young readers to adult readers. This is an amazing book that will peak your curiosity.

Ethan has a had a tough life. Living at his second foster home he is trying to change his life and leave his past behind. He is enrolled in a photography program for troubled teens. Everything seems to go great until one day he is chased in an alley by what he thinks is a "mugger".

This book was a very good condensed book. It started off from the beginning telling you what happens and you starting unraveling what really is going on.

A captivating story about a boy who is in the foster system and has a history of belonging to a gang. This story touches on aspects of the repeated cycle of crime that some kids go through and how they still feel judged by the adults around them. Photography plays an important resource for evidence and that is exactly what it did in 'Picture This'.

Ethan is living in his second foster home when he is enrolled in Picture This is a program for troubled teens. He’s learning photography skills and he’s good at it—creative and serious.

So when someone follows Ethan down a dark alley and tells him to hand over his backpack or be shot, Ethan doesn’t want to give up his backpack. There’s nothing of value in it except his camera. And that camera has all the pictures for his project on freedom.

Ethan thinks that the mugger doesn’t really have a gun. Who would hold up a teen with just a backpack? No one but a drug addict looking for a few bucks. So he’s surprised when he makes a break for it and is shot at.

Ethan has enemies, sure. The gang the Nine-Eights are after him since he defended his friend against them. But the guy who keeps following him isn’t really one of them, even if he shows up with them. Why does he want to kill Ethan? And how will this affect Ethan’s new life, with parents that actually care for him?

High school housekeeping: I really wanted to read a few books over the holiday weekend in anticipation of the READ 180 class visits this week. Picture This was one and Game was the other. The Lexile level for Picture This is 610, which runs in the 4th-5th grade reading levels. It’s a very short, quick read that deals with an at-risk main character and has a good mystery. The author is one of my favorites for teens working on their reading skills. Everything I’ve read by Norah McClintock works well. Picture This is no exception.

NOTE: This review is also posted on my blog School Library Lady.

The book i read was Picture this and it was written by Norah McClintock. It was publish by Ocra Soundings in Custer,WA. My opinion of this book is that you change your life around because people come from gang to getting to get out of gangs. It was a intersting book so the was at a Rec center and a house. The main characters of the story were Ethan,Mrs Ashdale,Officer Firelli and DeVon. Ethan coming into a new home. The conflict was this gang trying to kill Ethan, and an officer. I did not like how the conflict was resolved because Ethan was almost killed. My favorite part of the story was when the gang went to the Eatery place. A powerful quote was "that up looked at my pictures".(McClintock) It was important because you always let cops know what happened in a crime scene. I think the theme that the author is trying to get across to his/her reader is it's not to late yo yurn your life around because the story talks a lot about fixing problem in your life. This book reminds me of a t.v. show by the name of gangland. It is similar because they are all in gangs. I gave this book 5 star because it really teaches you a lesson really recommend this book to middle or high schoolers.

Ethan knows how to get into trouble, and when he's faced with a mugger in the first pages of this book, he displays a cool that most of us wouldn't. First, he knows he has nothing of value to steal, and second, he knows how to handle himself.

What seems like an isolated attack takes on a more and more ominous feel; Ethan's new life with new foster parents begins to unravel...but why? Why is he a target of violent gang members? Why is his foster home ransacked? Why is he shot at?

The only thing of value Ethan has is the camera he's been given in his community center program...he loves telling complex, metaphorical stories with his camera...but why would anyone want to take it from him?

As Ethan's life sprials out of control, he learns the answers to those questions and more. As a kid who seems to be reaching for a second chance, will he be able to solve this mystery and keep his new family safe?

This was a fun book to read. It had some adventure and is part of the Orca Book Series. It was quick to read and kept my attention, although I figured out the ending before I read it. Ethan Lives in a foster home and is trying to put his life back in order but because of his past it comes up to haunt him by the local police. Ethan is enrolled in the photography program for at-risk kids and he finds himself threatened over and over again by someone who wants his camera.

Ethan takes pictures as part of a photography program for at risk kids. As a poor foster kid, Ethan didn't think he had anything of value, so why did some guy try to take his backpack, and who ransacked his Foster Parent's home? What's on his camera that someone's willing to kill for? Norah McClintock writes another exciting fast read. McClintock's books appeared on previous Quick Picks Lists, 2010 for Taken, 2008 for Bang! and Down! and in 2007 for Tell.

I've read a couple of her books and I keep thinking I am going to like them. The only good I can say is that it only took a little while to read this book so not much of my time was wasted.

This wasn't a bad short story. Unfortunately, I read it on a Kobo so therefore didn't know what it was about, or how long it was, until I was done.
