They know that once a year a very special person plays a brief visit to the Deep and Snowy wood. Who could this special person be?
See if you can guess.
Ages 2 and up The Deep and Snowy Wood is a Christmas/Winter picture book. Told in rhyme it tells the story of 3 animals making their way through the wood.
The other animals of the wood are curious and follow the three to see what they know.
This was a really cute children’s story, about animals in a forest who are running, and hopping, and digging, but why? To find Santa Claus and Christmas day! I really liked the pictures in this book, and the rhyming was good too. 8 out of 10.
This turned out to be a pleasant surprise. At 28 I usually feel silly picking up an occasional kids book that isn't already nostalgic for me in someway. But if it's free and looks interesting I'll snag it up. I'm trying to read more winter/Christmassy books to get in the mood and this one fit the bill. Fun illustrations, nice wintery theme, and a cute ending. Very glad I read this.
Utterly adorable! The rhyming wasn't annoying, the story was sweet and the artwork was so pretty and gentle. I really enjoyed reading it. Cute and quick read. I think little ones would enjoy the animals in human clothing. Five stars!
Yeah I’m gonna is it the first day I can see it tutor and you have to do yuyyy
Very nice to have you on the road and you have to get to see what it was like to be done and I did nothing but nothing I did not get it to me and no I didn’t
The Deep and Snowy Wood is a rhyming book following three animals; a deer, a mole and a squirrel as they run, dig and hop their way, across, under and above the snow in search of... well...something. The question being - where are they going and why? And, only on the last few pages is there any indication of their destination, which I won't spoil for you.
The rhyming is superior and never loses rhythm, and the illustrations are superb. This is not always so with all children's books, but here they are perfectly partnered; with both and graphic art and written text flowing seamlessly together. With a tremendous amount of credit to the author, Elwyn Tate, it's all very professional, which makes such a difference. I love the way all the animals are wrapped in scarves and how the little mole's underground home looks so cosy and welcoming. There are plenty of other wonderfully depicted animals too, for little ones to point to and identify, and the winter scenes are gorgeous.
Although this book is seasonal, it is one that can be read at any time of year, and no doubt will be read over and over again at the behest of small children. It is now the absolute favourite of the youngest member of my family, aged two and a half, and the first thing she asks for at bedtime. A real must for any small child's bookshelf and very possibly a future classic. Highly recommended.
Very short but sweet story about animals waiting for Santa and Christmas. I loved the pictures, the animals were dressed and looked super cute but Im not sure if all kids would like them.
It doesn't really have a message but it's perfect to read while waiting for Christmas :)
What a festive book! As the animals romp in and under the snow filled woods to join a little celebration our eyes are shown adorable art along with sweet rhymes.
This book is sweet but not overly sweet. It is short but the combination of art and little text can be read out loud to children in ways that keep the young ones attentive to the story.
My only issue is that I wish I had the physical book in my hands because I would give it to my nephew who is a up and coming book lover. I read this in the kindle version and at the end the author did say it would come out in paperback so it may be available now. I have had this version for a few years and it has taking me till now to review.
I would have loved to see a continuation of the end to see how the animals celebrated the winter holidays. The art is lovely and I can see little ones wanting it read over and over again.
i was super lucky this time to find 3 reads by Elwyn Tate within the KU system or service, i've i told ya that i am having a hard time lately finding some great adult reads within the service, so i am giving the kiddie pooh reads some love, and i am not regretting it at all, finding some super great awesome reads lately, great illustrations and just loving them so so much!!! the reads i did check out by Elwyn Tate: Mabel and Sock Pirates, The Deep and Snowy Wood & My Triceratops Won't Wash ...they were all great but i gotta pick my faves ... really loved this read ... illustrations are AMAZING ... i really enjoy The Deep and Snowy Wood and Mabel and Sock Pirates the best ... then the dino read last ...not that is any worse ...but just prefer the others more??! check this author out.
The Deep and Snowy Wood (Christmas Picture Book) by Elwyn Tate Children's colorful book about the snow in the woods. Digital book has to be read sideways. Find it hard to read the words as they are sometimes on the same shade background. Shows all the animals that live in the woods. They can't figure out where the deer is running to and the other animals. As you watch you look up into the sky. this book should be read on Christmas eve to get the most out of it. Other works by the author are highlighted at the end.
The illustrations match the same style of the cover and the font was carefully design to be apart of the illustrations and rhythm of the fast characters. They hurry to the end of the story (there's not much of a story in fact). It's a Christmas book, but it could have been something else, starting the story from that point of interest where they hurry somewhere. The illustrations are gorgeous.
Beautiful story A squirrel, a deer and a mole are going in search of something. All the other animals wonder where the three animals are going, but they do not know. The answer is beautiful. The illustrations and rhyming tales are not just for children, adults (like me) enjoy it too. Lovely festive read.
A wonderfully simple book about a group of animals that find their way, hopping, running, and digging through a snowy wood. Where are they going and who or what are they waiting for? Why Santa of course. The illustrations help make the words come to life in this wonderful Christmas book.
My son loved the illustrations and kept him entertained. He pointed out different things in the book that caught his attention and he loved the sign pointing to the north pole.
Had no idea this was a Christmas book. We read it in February. I will say you can read a Christmas book when ever, but as a mom of small children who reads an average of 7 books a day. When Christmas is over I am done. Two this book was just not that good.
This is a cute little Christmas book with beautiful art and a lyrical cadence. I appreciate how recognizable the animals are. Great for little kids learning their animals!
This cleverly created story anticipates Christmas through a variety of animal characters. Exceptional illustrations capture your imagination as you follow the rhyming tale.
Wonderful illustrations that require more than a glance to fully enjoy and appreciate. Simple words and storyline that make a delightful impact. Merry Christmas! (Elwyn Tate books are worth buying and re-reading.)
A simple and charming tale of Christmas that is amazingly illustrated. I love seeing the return of more hand drawn style artwork in books as it really shows the talent and makes the book so much better. A wonderful tale and easy to read.
This is fun story that's perfect for the winter months. It's a rhyming tale that has nice illustrations and would be great for an animal lover to as it features a few different woodland creatures in the story.
Love this book as did my 4 year old daughter. It was a bedtime story and she loved the pictures. Santa Claus was definitely her favourite part. A quick read before bedtime.
Another beautifully illustrated Children’s book that started really well, but sadly I felt the ending wasn’t quite as well done as other books by Elwyn. Still a very beautiful book though.
