In a time when all the news seems bad, people are searching for a little dose of hope. For those in the thick of troubling times, Ronda Rich offers heaping helpings of comfort and sound advice in There's A Better Day A-Comin' . Here Rich shares stories of courage, spunk, and perseverance that she has either witnessed or (as in the case of Paula Deen and race car champion Dale Earnhardt), learned in conversation with them as they personally told their stories of dark times that turned brighter than their wildest imaginations. Rich knows that there is incredible power in stories, especially those that are true and have strong, wise lessons to impart. Incorporating her Southern storytelling style and vernacular, There's A Better Day A-Comin' is a collection of Rich's feel-good true stories that folks can use for inspiration and encouragement.
Ronda Rich, an eleventh-generation Southerner, is the bestselling author of What Southern Women Know (That Every Woman Should) and a popular national columnist. She speaks with Southern charm and humor at over a hundred events each year. She has appeared on dozens of television and radio shows. Ronda and her dachshund, Dixie Dew, make their home among the red clay hills of her native homeland.
Am I rating this book a five star read just because it includes my dad's story? Chapter 22 is my wonderful daddy's life. Everyone does deserve a second chance. Thank you Ronda for taking the time and seeing that. Ok I am going through the hardest part of my life so far and this book has helped somewhat keep me grounded. Thank you to everyone in this book for opening yourself up to helping others. My dad and the author
I don't usually bump my reviews..but my dad passed away tonight..and he deserves all the love. This is for you daddy.
What a lovely inspirational book packed with wisdom and positivity! I picked it up on a whim and am glad I did! I read it in one lovely afternoon sitting in the sunshine and loved every page!
I won this book in a recent Goodreads giveaway. I will openly admit that, although it was not one of the first books I've won, it is the first that I have read through (and I finished it in two days). After going through some emotional turmoil in the previous few weeks, I made it my mission to read this book in its entirety as soon as possible after returning from a brief holiday escape. I can tell you that I made a good choice.
Author Ronda Rich provides some excellent words of advice and encouragement in this book, along with anecdotes that will bring a smile to your face. She proves in these pages that, regardless of what you may be going through at the moment and how horrible it may seem, things can possibly get worse, but they will also definitely get better. As it says in the title, there's a better day a-comin', and today could be that day.
I found this book to be enjoyable: a fun read without coming off as too "self-help"y. As someone who spent a good deal of my youth in the South, I feel Ms. Rich's language is equatable to that of a good friend or mentor who's intention is to share the bits of good advice and experiences she has encountered in her own life and that of her friends, family, or even acquaintances. She does not (in my opinion) express these views in a way that could be considered "preachy", although it is obvious that God and religion play(ed) a large part in many of the experiences detailed in this book.
I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who is feeling down and out, needs a bit of perspective, or just looking for an alternative outlook on life and what it has to offer.
I won this book on goodreads. This book fails to meet its basic objectives. The advice in this book is, for the most part, trite, unrealistic, and surface level. The book does have two or three good chapters (out of 37...), but the majority fail to inspire or offer real hope to readers needing encouragement. Furthermore, the book reads more like a middle- or high-school paper than it does a professionally written and published work--the book would be improved with some basic edits for style and grammar. I would recommend that you pass on purchasing this book for yourself or a friend.
This is such a fantastic book! I've had so many downs that its pretty difficult to find an up during the down times. But while reading this books, I've realized that 1) there really are other people who've had it worse than me and 2) there is always a good either in or after the bad. I have cried, laughed and smiled through this book. If its not the book, than there's a chapter, a page, even a quote that I promise will make you feel better and really think that There is a Better Day A-Comin'.
A very positive book, for anyone looking for a mood lifter. I consider myself somewhat of a pessimist and this is a great book for breaking out of that pattern!
I read this book a couple of years ago. It was timely inspiring for me. Rhonda's style is refreshing and left me confident there's a better day a-comin'. And guess what? It did! I look forward to many more better days.
This book is a compilation of stories about various people the author met throughout her life. It is both entertaining and uplifting. Prepare yourself... you will laugh, you will cry, and at the end of the book - you'll want to read it again. Very good.
THIS is one of the best books I've read in a long time. Author Ronda Rich has created a tome for rainy days, one that I will undoubtedly read again. Need to find the upside in your life? Rich's stories will prove to you that there's always a better day a-comin'!
I loved this book! It put alot of things happening in my life in perspective and made me realize there is always a better day coming. My better day might even be today!
A nice, easy read, filled with inspiring anecdotes from her family, friends, and famous southern personalities to keep believing there are always better days to come.
I felt like this book was very contradictory in what the author was try to really come out and say. And I think that in part this was because she has too many experiences throughout the book. (And maybe that's what the author was aiming for). But I just feel like I don't have a million experiences like this author and therefore I couldn't necessarily relate to the point she was trying to carry across. I think that everyone has "ups" and "downs" in their life, and after a down - you are bound to go "up" again - just the question is: how long? The author was trying to give positive encouragement that the up will come sooner than anticipated, but it seemed really unrealistic the way she wrote about it. It left me feeling confused and conflicted and for that reason it didn't receive very many stars.
I originally bought this book for book club. Then was surprised to find out Ronda Rich was going to be a keynote speaker at a book festival I was participating in. I read the book after I hear Ronda speak. She is a true story teller and this book reflects that. I felt like Ronda actually opened up a part of her life and shared it with us. Thank you Ronda. I would highly recommend this book.
