When the end of the world arrived, it came not with a bang, as most expected, but with more of a "pfft" instead.
Humanity has been torn asunder and brought to the edge of total annihilation in less than an hour. For those who died, it was a quick death, so fast that their brains didn't have time to process the pain signals from their nerves. For those who survived, the true horror is about to begin as they struggle to not only stay alive, but find out what happened to bring such a quick end to the world as they knew it.
Final Dawn is a thrilling new post-apocalyptic series that follows the journey of four people who survived the end of days.
Leonard McComb - A grizzled veteran of the New York City sanitation department, trapped underground in the city's vast sewer system when the world ended.
Nancy Sims - An accountant, traveling across the plains of the Midwest towards a new job, caught in the middle of nowhere, destruction all around her.
Marcus Warden - A self-made millionaire from New York, vacationing in a national forest of West Virginia when the bombs fell.
Rachel Walsh - A wife and mother whose family is swept away in the blink of an eye, struggling with her loss and the dawning realization of what may have truly transpired to bring about the end of the world.
Good start to this series believable storyline very well written. I like the characters so far. That could change we will see. Going to start season 2 now. Final Dawn is told from each of the Characters POV which I like as we know what they were doing feeling when the event happened
Never a dull moment and despite being a very long series, it moves at a breakneck pace. With our advances in AI and nanobots, this could very well be the truth we will someday face. May God have mercy on our planet and people....
I'm glad I didn't find this series until it was completed because I loved this first book. I stayed up all night to finish it because I just had to find out why and how the events in the book transpired. The reveal of what happened was brilliant, combining technology beyond the human ability to control and evil, arrogant men who think they can control it.
The story is told from the perspective of four people: Rachel, Marcus, Nancy, and Leonard. They somehow survive an apocalyptic event and spend the rest of the book not understanding what happened, running from what remains, and finally uniting to try to save what remains of the world.
Rachel is a scientist who knows what happened, but doesn't know why. Marcus was out camping and runs first-hand into what is left of the world. Nancy was driving to a new job, and I don't think we've seen what she is capable of yet. Leonard was in the tunnels under New York City and is shown to be surprisingly intelligent and resourceful.
The world they are living in is terrifying. They find out what happened at the end of the book and find out what they have to do to prevent it from getting worse. I am very much looking forward to the next two books, and I highly recommend this one.
I'm a huge fan of the post apocalyptic genre of books and movies. I actually stumbled across this series of books by accident while searching for something new to read on Amazon. For those that aren't familiar with this genre, there are a few different types: nuclear event, zombie, and global illness. Final Dawn: Season 1 by Mike Kraus deals with a world wide nuclear event... with a twist.
Final Dawn is told from the point of view of four characters: Rachel, Leonard, Marcus, and Nancy. It follows them from the moment of the nuclear event through their struggle for survival and their fight to save humanity. I loved the development of the characters and how I felt like I knew them by the end of the series. The only thing I didn't like about the book was that certain parts of it, I felt, needed more explanation while others needed less. Overall it was a good read and action packed! It received 4 out 5 stars on Amazon and a 3.80 on Goodreads. Final Dawn was originally released as short episodes with 1-2 issues a month but you can now purchase it on Amazon in seasons which contain all the episodes together which is how I recommend you get it as the episodic form just isn't enough
The good: The story was at least interesting, but be warned...it ends on a cliffhanger...I HATE THAT!
The bad: #1...the mix of present tense when relating incidents in the past, and the use of the past tense for the present action drove me to distraction. #2...siphoning gas from a modern car with a garden hose is not possible. #3...hair on a dog's neck doesn't rise...but it will on his back. #4...triple spaces between each and every paragraph made me crazy, and finally... #5...typos too numerous to mention...if they were the only flaw, I wouldn't have mentioned them.
I enjoyed this read and will probably read the next "season". I like the premise of nanobots, you can do a lot with them .....like cleaning up the mess. He kept me wanting to read more so I could either find out more about what the creatures were or to flesh out a character but this could get old. I'll give him a chance but there must be an ending to the "end" and then he can have a beginning or start of the new.......
Sigh.....I wanted to like it, I really did. The book was well written and well edited. I read 3 of the episodes and I just found myself bored. The story just never progressed. Oh sure, there were lots of cliff hangers but nothing revealed itself. This is a criticism I have of most serialized fiction. There is no incentive to wrap up the story....ever. As long as you keep writing you keep making money.
I love it when apocalyptic stories are believable. By using existing science to describe future tech, it brings the story to life. But don't get it twisted! This book is cram packed with action and adventure, and human interaction. I'm hooked
Interesting twist on the Post-Apocalyptic genre. A little slow at the start but picks up speed quickly. Definitely going to read the next in the series to see what happens to the survivors.
