Last night, I had a terrible, unpleasant experience with productivity guru, Brendon Burchard.
On January 29th, he sent out an email saying - You all loved transformation week so much that we’ve decided to share my ENTIRE Wellness Master Class with you at NO COST over the next 10 days. I’m sharing the ENTIRE course via my podcast as well as via video on this page. But fair warning: Each episode is only up for 72 hours, so enjoy it now.
Fast forward to yesterday, no new email sent out about Day 3, it was still locked, no Day 3 on the podcast! As I researched further into it, I found out that he shared a broken link to the class (because you had to sign up within 48 hours - if you miss out on the window of time, you have to pay $99 for the class) and he wanted to make sure that people missed that window of opportunity. One person said that it worked if they clicked “Back To Home” and when someone complained, he shared a 2nd link and there was a third, link, when people still didn’t have access to Day 3. People thought they signed up, but it didn’t take. I called them out on it and last night, the link was fixed within 15 minutes, and the podcasts and videos are up this morning, after I told them I was contacting the attorney general. Last night I took a photo at 8:23 and only Day 1 and 2 were up for the podcasts. And 9:42 they deleted Day 1 podcast. I got an email in between those times at 8:29, referring me to another website. They completely blew me off. At 9:38 I told them I was contacting the attorney general, which is why by 9:42 they had deleted Day 1 and fixed the broken link. They could have gotten away with passing the buck to the other website, but that didn’t explain the podcasts not being up, as promised. Then later they hid one of my comments and then when I called them out on it they unhid it. And then after a while I was unable to tag the people I was communicating with, exposing his scheme.
These slimy business practices are all too common with people like this. And the most tragic thing to me is that they can say great things, but once they do something slimy, it loses its power.

I was hesitant about reading this because of the “student” in the book’s title but I decided to put my reservations to the side and give it a try. It turns out that the book is written for students but its lessons are purposely written to be transferable to any position of leadership.

This book is highly curated, so much of its lessons and content were pulled from other leadership works (which Brendon sites throughout the book) but overall, I think it is one of the best leadership books around. It teaches a highly practical, ethical, visionary and selfless form of leadership which I appreciate. Every person interested in leading people should give it a read.

Lesson: Being a good leader means that you raise others to a new level of ethics, while also inspiring them to participate and contribute. In contrast to being a boss, a leader leads by example, not because they're obligated or the monetary incentive, but because they're invested in the organization and feel a sense of duty to lead by example.

This book is all about what a good leader is. In order to be a good leader, you must follow the 6 E's. While Burchard goes into detail about what each of the 6 E's are and how to do them well, the examples he gives are supplementary, rather than necessary. You can just read the first few chapters and still get the same amount of information. The later chapters are just about solidifying understanding.

Brendon burchard's book "The student leadership guide" must be your first book about leadership. Burchard defines leadership as we have never thought of, because most of us misunderstood the meaning of leader. As a student I thought I needed to read that and I'm really satisfied to my understanding in a great process of change and influence which is leadership. I recommend this book for every students who are seeking change in their lives and others' lives, and those who want to succeed in their careers.

This book is a great introduction to leadership studies for college students. Its an easy read, inspiring students to consider making a difference in this world. It offers some handy and provocative advice, like distinguishing between managers and leaders, why Hitler is not a leader, and why there is no leader without collaborators.

His six "Es" of the leadership process are a helpful introduction to leadership (envision, enlist, empower, evaluate and encourage). What Burchard misses is the conflict and turmoil that often come with leadership, and the agonies and ambivalences that come with decision-making. He also lacks the concrete examples that make leadership literature come alive. Still, its a college student manual, and might be helpful for some.

There were moments where the book was long and repetitive, but overall it was an okay read that reminded me of a few things needed to be remembered.

The last words in the book are "(And I believe we need to start now so that in the latter years of our lives we won't have to look back on missed opportunities and feel the dreaded emotions epitomized by the words "We wait too long")"

The book had nice pointers, it would be a good read for those who want to read as much about leadership as they can.
