The first five chapters of THE ADORATION OF JENNA FOX by Mary E. Pearson.
Who is Jenna Fox? Seventeen-year-old Jenna has been told that is her name. She has just awoken from a coma, they tell her, and she is still recovering from a terrible accident in which she was involved a year ago. But what happened before that? Jenna doesn't remember her life. Or does she? And are the memories really hers?
This fascinating novel represents a stunning new direction for acclaimed author Mary Pearson. Set in a near future America, it takes readers on an unforgettable journey through questions of bio-medical ethics and the nature of humanity. Mary Pearson's vividly drawn characters and masterful writing soar to a new level of sophistication.

As a child she loved reading about and living in fantasy worlds. They were a portal to possibility that provided both escape and power. These days she loves writing about those worlds for the same reasons. She totally believes in magic, because, as one of her characters once whispered to her, “What is magic, but what we don’t yet understand?”
When she is not creating dangerous fantasy worlds, she enjoys the relatively safe pleasures of travel, gardening, friends, and family. Visit Mary on Instagram @maryepearson for book news and updates.
Jenna fox woke up from a terrible accident. She's in a hospital but she doesn't remember the people right beside her which are her parents. This is a big tragedy for Jenna and her parents. If they wanted their daughter back, these were the consequences. When she was told that those were her parents she didn't know how to react. A lot of questions are popping into Jenna's head. Do her parents want to tell her the truth? one of Jenna's questions was "Where is the rest of my family?" her parents carefully answered some questions but not all of them since they had a big secret to hide from Jenna. Jenna suddenly notices there was a difference in her even if she didn't remember anything before the accident. Her parents had videos of her when she was little, it help Jenna remember even though she questioned her life more. Jenna meets people but she is having a hard time trusting them. Jenna then notice that something wasn't right about her height she had shrunk in the year she was in coma. Jenna always thought that it was a miracle that she was the only one who survived the accident but then she learn it was more like impossible. How did her parents do it? Jenna also figured out something strange her parents moved as soon as the accident happened. the theme of the story is, trust people because the only want the best of you. this book is amazing but if you want to learn more about it, read it. this book The Adoration of Jenna Fox by, Mary E. Pearson was one of the best books I've read, I am definitely considering reading other books by her.
This book was Different because it had sections in the book where she would talk about the accident were she lost her memory and how people would tell her stories about her life before the accident and what really happened in the accident, and then on top of that she is really confused.I thought that it was very cool how they wrote the book because it wasn't really like any other dystopian book.it really had a twist at the end.
You are left wondering and questioning how far is too far? Seventeen year old Jenna Fox just woke up from a year long coma. She was recovering from a terrible accident. But she doesn't remember anything. She doesn't know if the memories she has are really hers. Her parents scientifically modified her after her accident to save her life,. However, she is barely human. How far would parents go to save their child? This novel raises questions on medical ethics and the nature of humanity.
The Adoration of Jenna Fox starts out confusing because Jenna, the main character, has woken up from a coma and knows nothing about her past. She wakes up in a house with her mom and her grandmother there as well, and starts to recover more and more memories throughout the book. Towards the middle she has fights with her mother and everyone around her because she finds out she is not completely human, but in this futuristic world, Jenna's father rebuilt her body using Bio Gel. The book is a great read in my opinion because it explores the teenage years and how different people handle it. This book does it in a very subtle way, but if you look hard you can see it. I also liked the way the author wrote the story, the wordplay is superb and it kept my attention and interest throughout the whole story, which is hard to do. The characters mostly all play their role well and help Jenna as she discovers who and what she wants to be. This is really a story for anybody because it has elements of friendship, science fiction, action, and even a bit of romance. One thing Mary E. Pearson could improve on is giving a bigger role to her classmates, especially Allys. Allys could have had a much bigger role because of the way both her and Jenna are made up of artifical substances. Instead the author shoves her aside and she becomes a secondary character. Another thing that could have been improved was how quickly Jenna recovers her memories. It takes her almost halfway through the book to realize that she is not who she seems she is. Overall though, this book was a great read and definetly deserves a 4 star rating

The adoration of Jenna Fox is a mystery and takes place during the aftermath of Jennas accident and one year coma. Over the course of the book Jenna is learning and finding herself and digging for answers of “what makes Jenna” type questions. Throughout the book Jenna is finding Jenna Fox and how to cope with “new Jenna” she comes across friends, family and her boyfriend, all of which Jennas life do not revolve around. I chose this book because I felt that based off of the back description I would be able to better understand my grandmother and what she went through before and after her aneurysm and maybe that the characters in the book could teach me how to help her cope. The characters had a slow development in the book which was my least favorite factor of the book. I enjoyed reading the book although I would have hoped the author could have put more emotion into the characters who were around Jenna most often. The story was to consistent in my opinion and dragged out the dullest parts before getting to the good parts. Over all the book was a good read if you like mystery and want to relate to a family member. I really liked this book despite the cons and look forward to reading the next book in the series.
( Spoiler alert). This book is about a girl who named Jenna Fox. Jenna gets in a car reck and almost dies. Her mom and dad save her with a type of bio gel. Jenna can be a positive person when she wants to be. Sometimes her mood swings get out of control. Jenna lives in a house with her mom, dad and her sister Lily. The main conflict is when Jennas parents told her she had bio gel. Jenna started yelling and screaming hat she now was like a robot and nobody wanted to be he friend. I think this book was amazing it switches character so you can hear the other peoples story. What i didn't like about this book wasJenna was always either crying, screaming or breaking something.

I read this because it was assigned to my daughter's 8th grade ELA class and I wanted to be able to help her if necessary. I thought it was an interesting premise, and it's not a difficult read. However, there are characters who don't serve much purpose and should be explored more deeply. Also thought the ending was a bit of a cop out (and slightly confusing). There are two sequels, which, while I am intrigued because I didn't think those storylines could continue after this book concluded, I am not intrigued enough to read them.
In this book, the main characters are Jenna Fox and her family. The setting is in California in the future. The main conflict in the book is between Jenna and her parents because they kept a lot of secrets from her. The theme of the book is the search for self because Jenna Fox lost her memories and is trying to remember her past. I liked the book because the book is based upon the future and they created something new that isn't invented now.
OMG THIS BOOK?! I read this in class because I needed an independent reading book so randomly picked a book off of the shelf. The plot twist of her finding out she is mostly a science project? She killed her best friends? So drop dropping. Also, I feel like the ending is a little bit like “oh okay it’s over!” Because it doesn’t elaborate much but that’s not the important part of the book so I get it. I like her relationship with Ethan as well.

I didn’t finish the book I made it half way through. So far what I’ve seen through this book it started slow and took a bit for the “action” to pick up. For my personal preference this book was to slow.
Mary E. Pearson's book, The Adoration of Jenna Fox, Is about Jenna Fox, 17, awakening from an 18-month-long coma following a devastating accident, her memory nearly completely lost. The author continues to build tension as the true horror comes out. I believe there are characters that are giving clues at some parts of the story. Characters such as Jenna's father, and Jenna's Catholic grandmother. This book I believe wasn't an ordinary book that I often read. I think this book is recommended for teenagers. It's a captivating mystery novel mixed with science-fiction, relationships, and thriller aspects.
I think the target audience for this book was much younger than I am, so it was a quick read. The storyline flowed well but there was not enough of a big twist or "adventure". Unsure if I will read the 2nd and 3rd books in the series.
Pricilla Inthisom English 12, Hour 5 11/18/13 Introduction: - The Adoration of Jenna Fox - Mary E. Pearson - Mystery Seventeen year old who gets in a car crash over a year ago who just recently woke up from a coma whose trying to figure out what her life is all about.
Body Paragraphs: A girl name Jenna fox that is seventeen years old got in a car crash over a year ago. She was put in a coma and she just woke up since being put on a coma. She is still recovering from her coma but is now at home. She doesn't remember anything, and nothing looks familiar to her since she was gone. She is trying to find out if that is her actual parents like they say they are, and she is wondering if this was her life before she was in a coma. This book really kept me off my seat. The tension in this book was crazy and it makes me wonder what I would do if I were in her position. Jenna is on a mission to find the truths about what happened with her past life, " these memories descend out of nowhere, giving me pieces of who I was, but their significance is lost" (174) She has a feeling of knowing who she was because memories are coming back but she can't tell if she's just dreaming of what she wants to know. It really helped me understand the book because I was confused, how she could wake up every day thinking everything is normal with her life but she just has memories to help her gain her past life. Another quote that describes this book to help me understand is when she can hear herself in her head, almost like someone is trying to help her find her previous life. "The silence darkness, nothing please go, let us go, help us Jenna" (222) It made me understand that she is lost and needs help, because her family is hiding something she doesn't know. I think the Motif in this book is secrecy. When Jenna comes home to her 'family' she doesn't think anything looks familiar to her and her parents won't let her go anywhere because their afraid she is going to run away or call other people for help. Jenna is talking to her friend Ethan, and her dad comes outside and pulls her away. He says "Let's go inside, my security specialist. He takes care of... things" (237) the dad seems like he is hiding something from Jenna. Also, Ethan tries to contact Jenna to let her know that her 'dad' didn't look like the same guy he was before. Secrecy is hidden in this book.
Conclusion: I think this book was great overall; it really kept me off my seats. I didn't like that her parents were keeping secrets away from her and making her avoids the thing she wanted to do. She almost rather be dead then be alive because her parents were taking too much control over her life and acted like she couldn't’t do anything on her own. This book would be great for people who like mystery books for young adults. It would be good for them because it’s all about finding who you are and who she came from after from being in a coma for over a year. I think they would really like this book; it’s a great mystery book!
Hello again - I am assuming this is the same book as "Jenna Fox Chronicles #1" -but the digital book I downloaded had the cover shown here, and no mention of "Chronicles." Personally, I am disappointed to see a franchise starting here - The Adoration of Jenna Fox was very thought provoking and, in my humble opinion, should have remained a stand alone book. I believe its message, alone, would be best served in a stand alone book.
(An aside - the popularity and expectation that *all* books will be trilogies or some other type of franchise is becoming a bit boring. At the same time, I got so hooked on the Game of Thrones series, I suffered withdrawal when I reached the last published book available. Perhaps there are two side to the story. At the very least, it proves people are reading. :) )
Back to the review..... I really really very much indeed enjoyed the book. I tried to guess all the way through what was really happening, and probably figured it out about 2/3 of the way through.
It is definitely thought provoking. The idea of being considered "less than human" because "x" amount of a body is synthetic..... kinda makes you wonder.
I don't want to do a plot spoiler, so that is about as much as I will say about the storyline. But I did feel sympathy and conflict for the main character as much as she experienced it herself in the book.
Google Play had it on their "sale table" and I picked it up for $3.99 I think. I read it in three days, finishing it last night. I thought it ended a bit awkwardedly, but never imagined there would be a reason to go to a second book and create a series. That is my only criticism of the book - learning today that a 2nd book along the same vein has already been published.
“ I used to be someone.” Jenna Fox’s life was perfect. She had two best friends, ballet, and loving parents. But after one crucial moment of underage driving, all of that goes away. Jenna was in a coma for a year after the accident. When she wakes up she cannot remember who she is. Then she meets Ethan a friend from school, who she falls in love with. Ethan helps her memories float back to the surface. Jenna and others see how her body is different; more advanced than others and knows it’s not right. Who are her parents? Who is Jenna? I loved “ The Adoration of Jenna Fox”. It was hooking, relatable and shocking. Mary E. Pearson did a great job to have twisty, emotionally full, and fast paced book. This book is fiction. This book takes place in Jenna’s mind and thoughts. But when she starts to remember there are flashbacks to those memories. I would recommend this book to females 11 and up. The themes of this book is no matter who you are, there is always people who love you. Another theme is never forget the most important things. Mary did a great job to hook you to the story and I hope she hooks you too. If you like a fast paced, romantic story this is the book for you. “ I used to be someone. Someone named Jenna Fox. I am more than just a name.”
My dad picked this book up for me at a thrift store for $0.49, along with about 20 other books. I figured, hey, why not give them a shot? And so I started here.
The Adoration of Jenna Fox started on a high note for me. The idea of a teenage girl coming out of a coma and knowing what happened to her is an intriguing subject, in my mind. Even more, the prose-like style of the novel really grabbed my attention and drew me in. The problem with the book came out soon for me, however.
The main plot idea - which I won't give away incase someone that hasn't read the book yet is reading this - was ridiculous, in my opinion. I'm not a fantasy lover, nor a sci-fi lover, and this felt like a weird mix of both that did absolutely nothing for me. I found myself skipping over the parts that talked specifically about the main plot just to get back to Jenna's rediscovering herself, and even more, her relationship with her Nana. I thought the most interesting parts of the book were her relationships with Clayton Bender, Ethan and Nana. I also thought that Kara and Locke could have added a lot more to the story, had they not been dealt with the way they had been by the author.
Honestly, this book was a huge letdown in terms of my expectations versus the reality.
I don't think I'd pick up another Pearson book any time soon.
The book was very interesting and also it was very mysterious. It was Interesting because it showed how Jenna was feelings about her forgetting her life before the accident and mysterious because of the way that they don’t talk about the accident she had. The book has creepy parts also, it made me feel mostly creped out. I felt so interested in the book and I honestly loved it because it got me all into it. What I didn’t like was how they didn’t explain how the accident happened. The book only said how Jenna didn’t remember anything about her life before the accident but not the way the accident happened. I liked the way they described Jenna’s feelings because you can actually picture her face and the feelings. I would recommend the book to people who like mysterious books. People from 14 years old and up. Younger kids might not understand this book much but if they pay good attention to it they will. Little kids I think are too young because even me that I’m 15 took me time to get the hang of it. Other than that this book is a good book, it’s very interesting.
What an interesting premise. Science being able to upload brain functions and using DNA to help to create a copy of an existing human. With the research that is happening today, it remains only someone that finds a way to do certain things before our society can accomplish such miracles.Who knows, it may be happening now.Once again, I have been reading a young adult fiction book that kept my interest throughout. The reason being that I feel that much of what we read today is so possible in the future that I may never see as an adult. If we look back to past books that have been written about the future and what it holds for society, we will probably see a lot that is actually happening today. Mary Pearson writes about what could very well be part of our future. I enjoyed the story and am going to read her second book about Jenna Fox soon as I already have it on my bookshelf.
The book was interesting, because interesting parts in the book, like the part when Jenna was in a comma for a year and how she can’t remember her past. It had some unusually part in the book, like when Jenna is talking to her father about her skin. It has some creeping parts too. This book is good to read, if you want read something interesting. I think that the book needed Jenna to have a cool adventure or something like that. This book describes Jenna as a girl that was from a different world. Also, this book has some kind of weird vibe when you read it. In this book you really have to pay attention to the chapter, because if you don’t you’re going to get confuse. I’m honestly not a fan of reading book, but this book is good to read. I would recommend people of ages 10- 80 to read this book. I give this book a four star rate.
The novel The Adoration nod Jenna Fox, is a very mysterious book. In this story Jenna is the main character. Jenna just woke up from a one year coma. At first she can berly remember how to talk then she slowly learns how to walk and then she starts remembering the accident and other important stuff. This story mainly takes place in Jenna's house since her mom doesn't really like her interacting with people until Jenna convinces her mom about going to school. I recommend this book if you like young adult books which for me are very interesting, depending on the person. One of the conflicts that happen is Jenna not being able to survive because Jenna is very sensitive since she isn't really human. Which she isn't happy about either and when she figures that out it starts another conflict with her dad. Overall, I recommend this book to teenagers, it will catch the readers attention.
The adoration of Jenna fox was a very original novel of a girl that gets into a car accident and wakes up a year later with many secrets being kept from her. I loved this book because the way the author wrote it makes you almost be in her place, because you're putting her life back together with her. I also liked this book because the style at which the author wrote was very specific and she got to the point. Some authors keep describing and never really get a good story, but with this book, the author focused on telling you the actions and not showing them more than she needed to. The adoration of Jenna fox and an astonishing novel from the future, and the twists and mysteries in it made me love it even more after i flipped every page.
Great introduction to bio-ethics. Recommended for 7th grade on up, boys/girls alike. Only reason why I didn't give it 5 stars is I wasn't a fan of the writing. Teens won't notice and will most likely love it more because of it--but I thought it was choppy.
Jenna has (had) it all. A loving family, friends, great school, talent (ballet, sports)--and then there is a car accident and she wasn't expected to live--but here she is. But not in her beloved Boston. Suddenly she is in California with her mother and grandmother. What happened anyway?
Takes place in the near future where anti-biotics no longer work, bio-tech has taken over the health system and ethics are sometimes missing. Many, many heavy duty topics cloaked nicely in a fast, good read.
17 year old Jenna Fox has just awoken from a year long coma. Her parents have given her videos of what her life used to be like starting from birth to 16 years old (this is when the accident happened). Jenna slowly starts to notice that everything isn't as it seems. She can't remember her old life at all. She starts to wonder if she will ever get her old life back. I loved this book. It was a sigh of relief from the typical teen fiction novel. The sci-fi twist made it that much better. I think that this book could possibly use a sequel to clear up some unanswered topics of interested.
The book was really good. It has taught me how to value family in friends even through tough times. And that girls can be strong even if they are knocked over they can get up and persevere. The theme of the book to me was more of Love and Friends. The evidence I have used for this theme is the fact that her parents did what they did to Jenna to save her because of their love for her. And it is a very good value to learn because you learn that things could go wrong at any second and take a bad turn and you could loose something in an instant, so you gotta value everything you have while you have it and before you loose it.
I really enjoyed the book and the quetions it brings up about bio-ethics. Particularly evident is the connection between wealth and priviledge, in all its permutations. The rich really ARE able to access services and things that the average person cannot, but the book makes the point that that may not always be for the best. You can read the other reviews to get more of a plot summary, but I can say that I found the book a satisfying read, with an itneresting concludion, but I probably won't read any further books in "The Chronicles."
The Adoration Of Jenna Fox, is a book about a girl who got in a terrible car accident. Her life was almost ending until her parents made a decision, This decision changed her forever, Jenna Fox before the car accident is gone, The new Jenna Fox however just started and is staying for a extremely long time.
I really like this book, because it is very different from any other book. The idea of the book is really creative and the ending is really good too. This book is definitely one of my favorite books.
