Robert Joseph Shea was a novelist and journalist best known as co-author with Robert Anton Wilson of the science fantasy trilogy Illuminatus!. It became a cult success and was later turned into a marathon-length stage show put on at the British National Theatre and elsewhere. In 1986 it won the Prometheus Hall of Fame Award. Shea went on to write several action novels based in exotic historical settings.
A very fun read. Robert Shea is really good writer. Shame he does not get as much praise as his partner Robert Anton Wilson. characters were believable. There is just so much there for any fan sc-fi.
Very forward-thinking but all too brief and everything felt glossed over. This would be okay if it left you pondering afterwards, but I can't say I did. Perhaps that's just because similar stories have aped these sorts of ideas ever since and I find it hard to separate Mutineer from that later glut.
A short story from Gutenburg originally published in 1959. It's a quick study in a human's place in a computerized system. It's pretty astonishing this was published in 1959 - it reads quite believably even now. Worth a quick read.
