An overwhelmed college student has decided to jump off a bridge and take his life on Christmas Eve. It is up to Kayla to change his mind, but she does not expect to grow so attached to him in the process of examining his past. In times of crisis, she knows that her words can often mean the difference between life and death—but a string of failures has left her job in peril, and her confidence is wavering when she is sent to help this young man in need. Given an ultimatum by higher powers, Kayla only has until sunrise to perform a miracle for the charming stranger. She's willing to risk it all to save him; but is there anything she can do to save her own skin?
Nadia Scrieva lives in Toronto, Canada with no husband, no kids, and no pets. She does own a very attractive houseplant which she occasionally remembers to water between her all-consuming writing marathons.
This is certainly the most tame of Ms. Scrieva's books, but in many ways I find it to be the most moving of her stories so far. This story hit home to me in a lot of ways for me. As someone that has experienced the devastating affects of a loved one committing suicide, I often wonder if there could have been something that I could have done to save him or change his fate. Although I don't blame myself, I do find myself searching for ways to keep such a thing from happening to another. For this reason, I could not help but to be drawn to Kayla's desire to save those lost souls that feel as if they had nothing left to live for.
I really like and admire the message of this book. The ideas that all of us have value and can make a difference in the world may be fairly common, but you can sense a deeply personal connection here. Ms. Scrieva really cares about this issue and message and you can feel it in every word you read. It was something that took a lot of courage to write, and even more so to share it with the world.
Despite the heavy underlying themes and issues, this book is a fairly light and fun read. There are some really fun and amusing twists, and a nice bit of suspense mixed in. The characters feel real and interesting and you grow to care for them in the short time you get to spend with them. I highly recommend Wish, especially for younger readers that are learning to love books. I can't wait to see what Ms. Scrieva has planned next for this series.
I have entered a world that is different from werewolves, vampires or fae's. This series is about guardian angels and stars. It was a short read, but received all of my attention. Looking forward to book #2 and see how the story of Kayla unfolds.
Over the last few years, Kayla has been becoming more attached to the human way of doing things, that her job as a guardian star has started to fail and now after her last job goes haywire, she finds herself looming on the edge of being forced to retire which for her means going into a deep sleep for eternity as her real body is nothing but a star. You know those wish upon a star moments, that's when people like Kayla are sent to save you and grant your wishes. Having one more chance to save someone and her job, Kayla is put in the path of Kieran who has just been dumped by his girlfriend on Christmas Eve and now he believes he has nothing left to live for and that the whole world would be better off without him. Coming across Kieran on the bridge, Kayla must show Kieran what life would have been like if he had never been born and what his future holds if he does not jump off the bridge tonight. Wish was a quick read and reminded me of a supernatural version of A Christmas Carol , where Kayla is the angel sent to show Kieran the Ghosts of Christmas. In saving Kieran, will this job save Kayla or will something more powerful intervene and send Kayla on a different life path for the future , a future she never imagined she could have ?
Wish is a mixture of "It's A Wonderful Life" and "A Christmas Carol" only better and with a twist. Not only does the troubled soul need help from a guardian angel but the guardian angel needs help from the troubled soul. When Kieran's girlfriend dumps him on Christmas eve he decides to end his life by jumping off the bridge. Enter Kayla whose job is to save him. Can she convince Kieran that his life is worth so much more than he thinks.
Nadia has done it again in writing such a moving story with characters that stay with you long after you finish reading the book. In such a short time she makes you care what happens to them. I am excited that there will be at least 2 more books in the Wish series.
The authors note at the end of the book gives us a glimpse of who Nadia is and something that is a part of her life that is just as moving as the story she wrote. Thank you for sharing that with us.
I received this book from the author and I highly recommend this and all of her books.
In this light romantic story, we see a guardian angel named Kayla who has some problems with her job. She is caving under the pressures of work, and she is not as successful as she used to be in saving people in need. Kieran is a young man at college who is also having troubles with his school and love life. The two have an interesting connection when they meet, and I liked reading about their adventure.
I prefer the author's other books which are a bit darker and more adult, but I think this would be a good read for a slightly younger audience. The characters really draw you in and make you curious about what happens to them. The length is a refreshing change from Nadia's super-long novels!
This novel was definitely different from Nadia's other books, but endearing all the same. A quick read, certainly not requiring marathon-reading, but a very sweet tale in time for the holidays. It felt a lot more personal and less fantasy than the Sacred Breath Series and Thirty Minutes to Heartbreak. Being that it was so much shorter, it felt like we got a more concentrated view of the events with Kayla and Kieran than we would have with her normal helping of sub-plots built into an epic plot. It was fun to see Ms. Scrieva stretch as an author and try some new things. I am eager to read more on K-squared, but cannot wait for more on Thorn and Pax and V-squared either! :)
I feel bad for my rating after I read the author's note. This was just too cheesy for me. It reminds me of It's A Wonderful Life and every other Christmas special. I usally stay far, far away from things like this but nobody warned me about this one. Also, why did the characters talk like that? I thought it was set in the modern time?
this was a sweet, quick read. it was touching and feel good story. I hope she continues with more books to follow. I enjoyed, as well, was the authors notes and inspiration of writing this book. she was very open about her personal experience with depression, bipolar issues and even suicide. it makes her book that much better.
The cover and personal Note from the writer deserve 5 stars. To open up about depression is not always easy and she's deserves an applause for doing that.
I couldn't like this book, the characters were cheesy and you knew beforehand what they would say or do. It was to predictable and the dialog sounded unreal.
