I found this an excellent resource as a study guide for taking the CAPM certification exam. The chapters followed the knowledge areas of PMI's Program Management Book of Knowledge-- the codification of the organization's best practices for program management-- in a fairly rigorous way. Although each chapter ended with a set of activities that could be used to help learn the material, I skipped over all that and just concentrated on the meat of the chapters in conjunction with the self-examination questions.
I successfully passed the certification exam on my first attempt; this book deserves much of the credit, and at a fraction of the cost of a re-take is a good value. Also, in spite of being a study guide rather than a reference text, I keep the book in my office as a nice reminder of some of the techniques and procedures I use in my job as project manager.
My only criticism is the amount of space taken up by the games and review activities. I didn't use them at all, though I suspect some may find them suitable to their individual learning style.
This is a great book! It is by far the best test prep book I've ever read. The authors really focus on what you need to know and why, while constantly providing quizes to test gaps In knowledge.
