BDSM This is a related book to Caught. Jack and Callie from Caught both play significant roles in this book.
Ryan Tomasi feels like a failure. His marriage is officially over; the ink dried on the divorce decree. His friend Jack introduces him to BDSM and he agrees to attend a Halloween party at a club. A submissive approaches him, offering herself, and how can he refuse the kneeling beauty? They do a whirlwind scene and Ryan is addicted--both to dominance and to her.
Lisette Rinaldo is returning to the BDSM club for the first time since ending a bad relationship with her former master. She spots Ryan and is taken by the combination of self-assurance and nervousness the man displays as he takes in his surroundings. And after he gives her an incredible re-introduction to the lifestyle, she knows she needs to see the man again.
Ryan and Lisette explore each other and the lifestyle, but what started out as playtime quickly evolves into something more. The problem? Ryan isn't ready to get serious again and Lisette doesn't want to fall in love with a guy who can't give all of himself to her. Both of them are going to have to break out of the bonds holding them back from happiness to pass this Master Class.
Cassandra Carr is a multi-award winning romance writer. When not writing she enjoys watching hockey and hanging out online. Cassandra's books have won numerous "Best Book Of" awards and her novella Unexpected Top was nominated in the E-book Erotic Romance category of RT's Reviewers' Choice Awards.
She thinks the best part of being a writer is penning stories about love and sex while most others struggle with commutes, micro-managing bosses and cranky co-workers.
Cassandra Carr showed me a whole new side to the BDSM scene – the fun one! A tale about a new “Dom”, his past and the woman who would bring him to his knees.
Coming off of a bad divorce, Ryan Tomasi is trying to put his life and his love-life back together. Seeing something amiss, fellow Professor Jack takes the chance and talks to Ryan about BDSM opening up a whole new and exciting world to Ryan. He always knew that he enjoyed kinky sex but never knew that there was a formal “thing” like BDSM – he thought that was limited to porn. Well, Jack and his submissive Callie opened his eyes and he finally felt like he belonged. On Halloween night, dressed in costume, he heads to the club with Jack and Callie. His first real scene. He enters the club and feels like he is “home”. Now to find the girl to fulfill his desires.
Lisette Rinaldo has decided to go back to the club and try BDSM again. She needs it. She needsthe domination, she needs the spanking. After a bad relationship with Master Taz, she shied away from the club and the lifestyle. What better night to go back to the scene than on Halloween. What she doesn’t expect is her instant attraction to the man in uniform. Hoping he wasn’t an a-hole, she takes a chance, kneels at his feet and offers herself to him.
After one night of play, Ryan knows that this is the lifestyle for him. Lisette made everything perfect. Justified his feelings and his want of the lifestyle. He wants to get to know Lisette better, he wants to find out what makes her tick, he wants to be there for her – to protect her and give her what she needs. But, will Lisette let him in after all she went through with her former Master?
“Master Class” was a joy to read. You have a new Dom with a Sub that had a bad experience. Two people who grew and learned more of the lifestyle together. The give and take, the “fun” they had together and the honesty between the two of them was refreshing. Ryan wasn’t always in Dom mode and Lisette wasn’t always his Submissive. They talked, they laughed, she was a brat and he made sure he punished her when the time called for it. And, he enjoyed it as much as her. The writing was fresh and fun and I couldn’t have asked for anything more. Ms. Carr did not drag out the story, you knew and understood what all the characters were feeling and thinking without it being over-done. It was a story that was perfectly written and perfectly told.
Full review to come, but I loved this. I will have to go back and read caught because I had it on my TBR, even bought it but didn't get to reading yet. I wanted to read that one as well.
However, I must say that I never knew a newbie Dom could be so utterly hot at swoon-worthy. *sigh* But, Ryan just really did it for me. I think I was just like Lisette. LOL
This was my first Cassandra Carr book, and after reading Master Class, I can’t wait to read more of her work. This story should come with a warning attached: Danger of falling in love with a college professor Dom. He’ll seduce you with his humor, intelligence and his good looks. If I’d had that sort of professor back in the day ….
I was immediately enamored with Ryan. Like Lisette, even I had to wonder what type of crazy woman he had been married to. Who in their right mind would let him go? Seriously! I also enjoyed the fact that Ryan wasn’t already an established Dom, but rather a man on the journey of discovering who he is sexually. He asked questions, followed his best friend’s directions, and he was still incredibly gentle with Lisette, but he still retained the air of confidence he needed to have around his sub.
Lisette was so sweet, she made my teeth ache. I wasn’t expecting her to be so open and receptive to Ryan’s countless charms, especially with her somewhat cloudy history with her former Master. But I did enjoy the little peeks into her mind and being privy to her feelings.
Together, these two sent my Kindle into meltdown mode! The scenes … oh Lordy, the scenes! I’m so distracted right now just thinking about them, so I’ll just say this: But the book, right now! If you’re a fan of Cherise Sinclair, then you’ll really enjoy this book as well. This will always be one of my absolute favorite BDSM books. I’m madly in love with this author right now, and would I read this again? Hell, yes! I will never forget Ryan and Lisette.
Another brilliant read from the genius of Cassandra Carr. If you like BDSM, but nothing too hardcore, then I would say with confidence that this might just be what you are looking for. I couldn’t stop reading this book once I started, it flowed so perfectly and I sure didn’t want it to end! It left me feeling greedy for wanting to read more hot exploits between the leading couple.
I loved the connection between Lisette and Ryan, their chemistry was instant and heated. All the steamy scenes between the two were so well done, and how each of them got gratification and satisfied, it wasn’t all for Ryan who was the Dominant in the relationship. It was wonderful seeing Lisette find happiness with Ryan after her last BDSM relationship left her feeling tortured and her being mistreated. He helped her feel safe and loved but also gave her what she needed, in return Lisette helped Ryan to trust again after what happened with his ex-wife and find fulfilment in being a Dom.
This was truly more then I could have hoped for, it really surpassed my expectations as sometimes I find BDSM reads can be a bit of a hit and miss. I very much enjoyed Master Class and I hope to read more books of the BDSM nature from Carr in the future. If you haven’t read a book from this author before, I would suggest fixing that, as you are missing out!
Master Class is a symphony of BDSM blending kink with romance. Cassandra Carr writes a beautifully erotic tale of a promising Dom, newly divorced and newly introduced to the lifestyle and his voluptuous submissive.
Ryan is introduced to a new lifestyle of sex after solely experiencing vanilla sex with his now ex-wife, whom abhorred anything new. Ryan’s secret longing was for a more fulfilling sexual relationship bringing forth his dominant nature. He meets Lisette at a BDSM club, where she has taken to the lifestyle once again after a year’s absence since leaving her last Dom. She yearns to be taken again and sexually gratified by a strong man.
Ryan and Lisette form a bond that reaches subspace all unto itself. They crave sexual serenity and pleasure and find it in each other’s arms. The story is chocked full of heady sex leaving the reader stimulated and fulfilled. Each scene is artfully done, with class and thoughtfulness. Master Class is a romance story depicting souls yearning to trust and bond; finding a happy medium of sexual desire and love. Even though Ryan is the dominant and Lisette the submissive their souls are the yin and yang of each other and only in their twinning can nirvana be achieved.
Ms. Carr has outdone herself with this brilliant tale unifying lustfulness and romance; a slam dunk for fans of BDSM and true passion.
This was a well written story but I couldn't connect with their characters for some reason. This story is about an inexperienced Dom, which is a pleasant change from every other BDSM book I've read. It also shows how serious is BDSM O.O I didn't feel the heat between Ryan and Lisette so... Maybe because love was absent...
Ryan walks into a BDSM club on Halloween hoping to feel something that he has lost. New to kink, he is willing to try anything to make him feel a bit more like a man. Then, a beautiful sub kneels at his feet. The lovely Lisette obviously sees the true Dom in him and offers herself to him. With tutoring from his friends Jack and Callie, he helps reintroduce her into a world that she has been absent from and in doing so he becomes addicted to both Domination and to her. But with his marriage still a raw wound, Ryan doesn’t want to get too deeply involved. He doesn’t seem to realise that in becoming Lisette’s regular Dom, it might be more difficult to remain as distant as he wants.
Lisette put her trust in a Dom and he abused it. Now, she is taking her first tentative steps back into kink and it looks like Ryan could be just the Dom to do it. His nervousness attracts her attention and his natural Dominance keeps her hooked. But even after providing some truly spectacular orgasms, he still isn’t the perfect Dom to her sub. He refuses to allow himself to fully immerse in their relationship which means that she would never be able to truly submit. Will they allow their past relationship failures to dictate their future forever?
Well well well, Cassandra Carr has done it again! This is an incredibly hot novella between two very wary individuals and I loved it. This is one I would reread as the end is very satisfying and incredibly sweet!
Ryan was an awesome Dom. He was such a natural Dom that it literally bled from the pages but the scenes that were my favourite showed his inexperience. I loved when he played with Lisette up against the bar, not knowing that it was probably against all club protocols, because he couldn’t wait a second longer to get his hands on her. I loved that he had a Dom “go-to” buddy because he actually cared enough to get it right. I am so used to seeing these all-knowing Dom’s that to see one in development was both refreshing and fascinating. All these things just made me adore him but I have to admit his attitude in keeping his distance hacked me off. He didn’t seem to see the massive amounts of mixed signals he was throwing as his words and actions did not match!
Lisette was a good character to read about. I’ll admit that she wasn’t the reason I continued to read the book but she complemented Ryan well and her personality only enhanced the good in his. There was something about her that made it hard for me to love her but I cannot tell you what it was.... I’m probably just being fussy! The thing that I definitely did love was her willingness to try everything.... there is a masturbation scene.... *fans*
Overall, this book was that something different thing that I needed last week. The Dom was naive and the sub was experienced and that role reversal made this book a winner. It was smutty, heart-warming and of course as frustrating as hell. I loved Ryan...he could smex me against a bar anytime!
This book was provided to me by the author for an honest review at SeductiveMusings.blogspot.com.
I read a lot of contemporary BDSM romance novels and have a list of authors in that genre that are pretty much auto-buy for me. Cassandra Carr has been on that list for a while now, but Master Class is far and beyond my favorite read from her. It takes the standard plot of Dom meets sub on a path less traveled, not only by what happens in the story but also by what does not happen. It also features the hero and heroine of “Caught” as important supporting characters, although it is not necessary to have read that book before this one.
Ryan is just starting out as a brand-new baby Dom at the BDSM club where his good friend and co-worker Jack has been playing for some time with his beloved submissive Callie. The club’s Halloween party is the perfect open event for Ryan to scope out possible uncollared submissives who might be willing to scene with a new Dom. After finalizing his ugly divorce just that week, the last thing he expects or wants is any new emotional entanglement. But then he meets Lisette.
“Wow, those are eyes I want to obey.”
Lisette is an experienced submissive who has been away from the lifestyle since she ended an abusive relationship with her previous Dom, a man who had treated her so badly for so long that it took other people to point out to her that this was not what BDSM was all about. After her brief attempts at vanilla relationships, she’s finally ready to look for another Dom. When she sees Ryan sitting next to Jack at the club party, the attraction is instant and powerful. She kneels before him to offer a bottle of water... and herself. Neither she nor Ryan could possibly have anticipated what would happen next and how it would change both their lives.
“Cheekiness will be taken out on your cheeks, girl.”
The title Master Class is so perfect for what takes place, and not just because Ryan is an English professor. As we follow Ryan and Lisette in their careful hesitant dance toward what could be a genuine and lasting love, we see them teach each other not only how to interact in the somewhat stylized BDSM environment, but how to trust each other with both their bodies and hearts. The decision to let us in on what both characters are thinking and how they behave when they aren't in each other’s presence helps us see the journey to their HEA as inevitable, if they can just believe it can happen.
“Oh, . I did it. I fell in love with him.”
I know I've raved in previous reviews about Cassandra Carr’s skill in writing nuanced relationships in a genre so often lacking subtlety but it bears repeating for this review. Master Class is emotional without being overly angsty and touching without an excess of external drama. It’s one of the best new contemporary BDSM romances I've read this year and I hope that there will be more stories with these characters in the future.
“What better investment is there than us?”
Ratings:
Overall: 5 Sensuality level: 5 (light BDSM including erotic spanking, anal sex and wax play)
Cassandra Carr has written a story that perfectly blends romance and the intense world of BDSM and wraps it up with a sweet yet playfully natured bow. It's not very often that I feel a story really understands and conveys what draws people to BDSM, but Master Class has done so masterfully.
Joining this world of BDSM after getting divorced and losing self confidence is sweet and sexy college professor Ryan. After being made to feel as if his sexual desires were wrong by his ex-wife he's finally getting to experiment and his nervousness is apparent at first but soon morphs into a true Master. I found his early nervousness endearing and believable considering his newbie status. I liked him even more when he admitted such to the woman who chooses him to play with. That woman is Lisette who left the scene after a bad Master/sub relationship and on her first night back chooses Ryan. She's clearly more comfortable with the scene than he is as she subtly encourages him throughout the night. This mentoring felt right and showed she was nothing like his ex as she wanted to build him up not take him down. Their relationship evolves slowly with play dates at the club followed by a real date which quickly evolves into something more permanent, a HEA with a twist.
The sexual encounters in this story are intensely erotic and show BDSM in a positive light. Types of play are explained fully but not in a clinical way. These scenes always maintain their eroticism and after the release there's always a sweet moment to remind the reader that this kind of play is merely an expression of love no matter how others see it.
Ryan and Lisette are a wonderful couple whose relationship evolves in a believable way. The few issues they have are quickly resolved so no irritating Big Misunderstandings occur which made me appreciate this story even more. These two are mature adults who act in mature ways with no juvenile actions getting in the way of their HEA. Along with a wonderful main couple comes Ryan's friend and mentor Jack, who with his sub Callie, present another positive view of a BDSM couple. They're extremely likable with their loving yet kinky sides and I would love to read more about them as their enticing backstory is alluded to in passing.
From start to finish I became fully immersed in this new world and relationship Ryan has found himself in and was rooting for him and Lisette every step of the way. Their relationship was intensely erotic and loving with super steamy interludes nicely spaced throughout the story to not become overwhelming. Cassandra Carr has told a masterfully entertaining and satisfying story and I look forward to the next story in her repertoire.

Wow, those are eyes I want to obey. Why am I having such a strong reaction to a man I’ve just met? This is crazy.
What a great read. This was a story about two people trying to find themselves again doing what they enjoy.
This is Ryan and Lisette’s story told in alternating POV. Ryan is moving on from a divorce and is training with Jack to be a Dom. Lisette is moving on from a bad relationship with her previous Master.
During a Halloween party at the BDSM club, Lisette offers herself to Ryan.Could this be the sub he has been looking for? They have an instant connection and there is something about Ryan that draws Lisette in.
Ryan seemed to just “get” so many things about BDSM and her needs within it made her practically pant for the man.
As they practice the Dom/s lifestyle, Ryan is realizing this is exactly what he has been looking for. He finds himself wanting to know more about Lisette and connect with her outside of the club as well. Ryan is developing a protectiveness over Lisette and wants to be there for her. He tends to struggle with trust due to his ex’s cheating, so when Lisette goes out of town he goes with her. They both realize something while they are away.
“Oh, $ hit. I did it. I fell in love with him.
Ruled aka Master Class by Cassandra Carr was a great read. The journey that these two take to find themselves again was great. They both enjoy the BDSM lifestyle and each other very much. Their relationship was refreshing and fun, when she pushed his buttons and was naughty, he knew just how to handle her. There is no cliffhanger. 1-click today and read Ruled today.

I don’t think even an iceberg can cool me down from this. To say this story was hot is a complete understatement. There wasn’t a single chapter that went by where Ryan and Lisette weren't getting down and dirty, and by god it was awesome! Cloud 9 with some kink? Check!
I really liked how Lisette and Ryan connected with each other. I also like how she first approached him at the club. Everything seemed to fit just right between them and their lives and the moments between them. Both of them are coming out of relationships that, for lack of better words, royally freaking sucked. They both had a sense of incompleteness in their lives and both wanted to find some way to heal and move on. In discovering each other, they slowly learned how to forget their pasts and start a life that included more of each other then they had ever planned for. They took to their roles like they were born to do it, and turned it into something so much deeper.
I’ve read a few BDSM books here and there, each with their own take on the lifestyle and clubs within them. This one was particularly intriguing—with all the different types of rooms and set ups. I almost kind of wished the characters had explored the place more. My interest was piqued and I wanted a little taste of the whole menu, kind of like a sample platter. There were so many ways to tease me in the story, I found myself wanting them to go that one step further, to push that boundary that I knew would make it ever hotter—if that were even possible at this point. But what I got was very satisfying too.
The only issue I had with this book was that sometimes—and I stress sometimes—the writing seemed a little bit too ‘loose’ for my taste. There were times where as I was reading, I found myself thinking ‘Really? You had to reiterate it…literally?’. Thankfully, those were few and far between. It in no way took away from the story, but I guess that it’s just a personal little irritation of mine.
Overall, this was quite an enjoyable book. If you’re looking for something hot and spicy, without all the angst and drama of a regular novel, this will definitely hit the spot.
Ryan, a recent divorcee, goes to the club for his public debut as a Dom during a Halloween party. Quickly he meets Lisette, a sub who has been out of the scene for a bit while she mentally and emotionally recovered from a bad D/s relationship. The chemistry between them ignites instantly. Ryan has been getting a bit of tutelage from his friend and coworker, Jack, and it is all about to pay off in spades.
Ok, so when I pick up a Cassandra Carr book I know two things for sure. 1) I’m about to read a story that is extremely hot, and 2) it’s not all about the sex by any means. This story is definitely one to add to your TBR if you have not already. Ryan and Lisette are two wonderful characters; I loved reading about them separately and together. The sex scenes in the BDSM club were absolutely toe-curling, and it isn’t long before these two are becoming an “item”.
Ryan is a professor who had a messy divorce. It isn’t long before he finds himself on the doorstep of BDSM, and when he enters the club his one thought “home” is so damn sweet. I know, you probably aren’t thinking a BDSM club as sweet, and that may be true. But the sentiment that this man, who had been hurt by a woman, was able to find a place where he felt like himself, like he was whole again, and where he would eventually find love… well, it’s sweet. It made me happy to see him feel good and happy, too. I absolutely found myself caring for him as a person.
And then we have Lisette, and she’s in control of every aspect of her life. She comes to the club to get her release, to let go of that control and just feel. And then she meets Ryan and she just knows. I just love that, when two people have a moment and you know they are ruined for every other person on the planet now that they’ve met their true mate. The way that Lisette and Ryan interact with eachother, the way they feed each other’s needs, it’s truly romantic. These two are electric together, and I couldn’t get enough.
Like I said before, Cassandra Carr can write good sex. Heck, she’s fantastic at it. But she really packs the story full with characters and a great plot, and a lot of emotion and drama. If you haven’t read her books, I seriously recommend you start. I’ve read quite a few, and I haven’t been disappointed yet. And now I’m totally adding Master Class to that list.
I really enjoyed reading Master Class by Cassandra Carr and I thought Ryan and Lisette were great together. Ryan is going through a tough time after his recent divorce and with help from his friends, Jack and Callie, he has discovered his enjoyment of "kinkier" sex and BDSM. On Halloween, Ryan goes to a BDSM club with Jack and Callie and it's there that Lisette, a sub, kneels at his feet and offers herself for his pleasure. Lisette is an experienced sub but her last bout with her previous Dom had her leaving the BDSM scene and is now ready to immerse herself back into the lifestyle. Ryan is the perfect Dom for Lisette to begin anew with because he is caring, gentle and always seek proper training when "playing" a new scene. And those scenes were smokin' hot and I loved the dirty talk that came out of his ever lovin' mouth. I loved how the author was able to include Jack and Callie into this story and they blended in so naturally and enriched Ryan's character development as their friendship was portrayed beautifully. It was fun to see Ryan have his own Dom instructor whenever he needed advice. Lisette complemented Ryan well as he was learning more about BDSM and she was there to answer any questions he had without him appearing weak. It showed that he cared for her safety and pleasure. It was nice to see the Dom be a bit vulnerable and unsure of himself for a change. I liked how Lisette stood up for herself when the issue of trust came up and Ryan's inability to fully trust her due to his ex-wife. He seemed caught between the past and present and whether he wanted his "playing" with Lisette to turn into something more real outside of the club. Both Ryan and Lisette were skittish with their developing feelings for each other and I admit, there were times when I wanted to shake both of them for not expressing what was in their hearts. The wait was worth it though and I loved the ending to their love story. Another winner by this wonderful author and I highly recommend this book.
Ryan Tomasi is ready to move on. After a bitter divorce a year ago he wants to find a special submissive who he can enjoy spending time with, one who enjoys his lifestyle and special needs. So he is spending an evening celebrating Halloween with his friends, Jack and Callie at the BDSM club.
He told Jack several months ago that he wanted to explore this lifestyle, believing he has always been a Dominate yet his ex-wife never wanted to investigate that part of their relationship. So Jack and Callie have been teaching him the ways of their lifestyle and he finally feels like he has come home, it just feels right.
Lisette is returning to the club after several months away. She left a Dominate months ago who was so over the top controlling, it has taken her a while to come back. She tried the dating scene with the vanilla boys however it never felt right. She notices Ryan right away, she likes his look of confidence, knows he is a natural Dom, so she comes over to Ryan offering herself in hopes that her instincts are correct and he is a decent person.
They start off slow; enjoying the craft while learning about each other, yet it blossoms quickly into something more meaningful.
I enjoyed this story; it was an amazing journey for both Ryan and Lisette. They both know what they want yet not sure how to get it. Ryan is learning, yet it seems so natural for him, however still needs Lisette to help him through the learning curve, and yet she still is a submissive and needs him to tell her what to do. They fumble through the relationship and it just seems to work. I really liked both of their personalities and enjoyed watching them grow together. Ryan has some jealously issues and Lisette needs to let go and trust a new Dom yet they work it out wonderfully.
“Master Class” by Cassandra Carr is the delightfully spicy erotic novella that chronicles the journey of Ryan Tomasi as he explores his Dominant nature, mentored by his friends Jack and Callie. Ryan is new to the world of BDSM but he has been carefully researching various aspects of the lifestyle and is cautiously willing to explore some of its facets with the alluring sub, Lisette. Both Ryan and Lisette have issues with previous partners to overcome but her desire to submit coincides with his inclinations to be her Dom. They have to decide how far to push their respective limits and whether they are truly suited or if a few scenes at the BDSM club will be all that they share.
This intriguing story was a fascinating depiction of the give and take of a Dominant/submissive relationship. The safeguards and care displayed by those who responsibly engage in this lifestyle are vividly described in an enchanting tale which is both sensual and romantic. I enjoyed the author’s ability to describe two wounded souls who are able to explore their carnal natures and learn to heal even as they find satisfaction in each other’s need for a kinky side to their relationship. This is the first work that I have read by this talented author but I am definitely looking forward to reading more of her enjoyable tales.
A copy of this title was provided in exchange for an honest review.
Cassandra Carr is well know for her sexy cowboys and her smokin' hot hockey players all very alpha male, so when the hero of Master Class is an English professor and a newbie Dom on top of that you wonder will he be the sexy smokin' Dom's we expect from Ms. Carr? OH YEAH
Ryan is a natural Dom, he has the voice, the eyebrow, the possessiveness and the ruler paddle to prove it. Lisette is a little gun shy after her last Dom turned out to be abusive and controlling, she is just getting back to the club after several months.
Ryan and Lisette have more chemistry than a DuPont engineer convention and the BDSM scenes they do together will soak your panties and leave you so hot and bothered you would think you were in Memphis in August. Ms. Carr takes us through the story of their very not vanilla relationship and explores their emotions as well as establishing the D/s dynamic. I loved that Ryan as a new Dom had his mentor and asked questions both of the mentor and Lisette, one of the best lines that exemplifies this is when Ryan says something to the effect that as much as he would like to be he isn't a mind reader and therefore he was going to ask questions to make sure he gave her (Lisette) what she needed :melt:
This goes on my reread shelf, it is a story that people with any amount of knowledge of BDSM can enjoy. 5 out of 5 for Master Class.
I received this book in exchange for my honest review.
I was first introduced to Cassandra Carr when I read her Buffalo Intimidators series; so I wasn't surprised by how much I enjoyed this. She gave the characters lots of depth, but what I admired most about them was the amount of reverence between Ryan and Lisette. The author did a superb job of pacing the romantic development based on the negative outcome of their past relationships; not just rushing toward the outcome. Ryan’s character was practically unique; as a natural dominant – he uses his deficient sexual knowledge to his advantage. Initially, Lisette seemed one-sided, and then her character exploded…
I don’t typically read BDSM books nor am I overly familiar with the rules and/or etiquette of the lifestyle. However, I intend to read Caught, which is Jack and Callie’s story.

This one of the best Loose Id covers b/c it totally shows off the spirit of this book--a sassy sub looking for a new dom and a dom-in-training who's ready to move into making his BDSM fantasies a reality. This is one of my favorites of Cassandra's b/c the hero is so endearing--he's an alpha hero, but way more approachable than most BDSM heroes. His newbie status makes him more down-to-earth. He's one of the few BDSM heroes I could imagine knowing in real life.
This is a holiday book and it's loosely connected to an earlier book, but I read without reading the first couple's book and didn't have any continuity issues here. The holiday aspect isn't as overwhelming as many--it opens on Halloween and ends around the winter holidays, so if you're looking for a seasonal read that doesn't scream MERRY CHRISTMAS or HEARTWARMING TROPES AHEAD this is a great choice. And as someone who doesn't read a ton of BDSM, I found this really a great choice for someone new to the genre. I just recommended it to a friend who read 50 Shades and wanted "something like that but not too weird."
Ryan always knew that vanilla sex was not for him so when his friend Jack shows him the world of BDSM he finally finds what was missing in his life. While at a club he finds himself drawn to a sub and to his surprise finds her kneeling waiting for him to play.
Lisette is attempting to forget a bad experience and after an absence from the life she cannot help but be drawn to the Dom she has spotted. She is drawn to Ryan and can tell this is all new for him which may be what she needs.
Drawn to each other they decide to meet again but Lisette wants something that Ryan is not ready to give. Can the two overcome their pasts and have more than just doing scenes in the club?
Cassandra Carr as a hit on her hands! This story shows that two people with trust issues being brought together and trying to overcome the pain of their past. Ryan is a natural Dom, he knows how far to go and how to show tenderness when needed. I loved this story and look forward to reading everything I can find written by Ms. Carr.
Every so often I venture into the world of erotica. I swear most erotic novels are BDSM these days, which isn't usually my thing, but Master Class caught my eye, and it didn't disappoint.
What I liked about Cassandra's book, is that there was more to it then just the sex part, which btw was very hot. This story also focused more on the relationship between Ryan and Lissette.
I don't usually find the erotica I read to be erotic romance, but that's what Master Class is. Ryan and Lissette have a relationship that exists outside of the "club scene" which brings their characters to life more than if the story was one big BDSM scene. So you get a romance that is almost sweet with the hot super spicy sex too.
The mixture was perfect and created an erotic novel that was satisfying and fun to read.
Krystal's Review.... This was my first Cassandra Carr read. It will not be my last! I felt an instant connection to both Ryan and Lissette. They were real people, with real problems, real fears, and insecurities. Don't get me wrong, I love an alpha Dom, but it was such a pleasure to watch Ryan grow into that role. Most D/s books are about dominants that are already established in that role. This was a fabulous change up.
The scenes between Ryan and Lissette were a fabulous blend of compassion, sensuality, and HOT DAMN! I was melted into a puddle on several occasions and could not stop reading. I really enjoy the BDSM genre, but some books I've read focus too much on that aspect and not enough on the characters and the relationship. Master Class was not one of those. The BDSM was fantastic, but the loving relationship that developed between them was what really sealed the deal.
I'm torn between a rage review and no review at all, so ill just pros and cons this one. As i was reading I went from DNF to 3 stars to 2.
Pros: if you're not familiar with BDSM, this story gives a clean play by play introduction. Nothing crazy or abusive happens in the BDSM scenes.
- The sex for the most part is hot.
Cons: Ryan and Lisette. I didn't care about either of them. The emotion in the blurb does not carry over to the story itself.
- Some of the sex scenes were summarized and could have been skipped all together. I want to be drawn into a sex scene, but here you're told very plainly each sex act that is going down, sometimes by name. I want to read a 69, not just told they are 69ing.
- Ryan pulls a major jerk move toward the end that totally pulled me out of the story. This is what bumped it down to a 2.
Not quite 3 stars. This book features an inexperienced Dom, which is a pleasant change from every other BDSM book I've read. The heroine is an experienced sub who had been away from the scene for a while due to an abusive relationship, which seems to be the only type of experienced subs that exist in BDSM fiction. Both characters were likable, though not particularly interesting.
Cassandra pens "Master Class" in a plot that shows a fascinating insight to dominant / submissive roles. Her characters were believable and totally hot in this BDSM love story. A great erotic drama that will draw you right in..
This review is based on a complimentary copy from the author which was provided for an honest review.
Cassandra Carr’sMaster Class is a delightfully unique and sinfully sexy romance with a whole lot of kink. To read my review in its entirety, please click HERE.
If there is such a thing as a sweet BDSM story, this is it. The characters are believeable and even though the story is short, the situations are believeable also. I liked this book a lot.
This was a well written story that I just didn't manage to connect with for some reason. I didn't feel the heat between Ryan and Lisette so it made for a less interesting read for me.
