From the world's leading expert and bestselling author on baby and children's food and nutrition Annabel Karmel, comes the ultimate guide to starting children on solids. With basic but crucial details, such as types of spoons, portion size, and best feeding time, to larger issues, such as when to begin and allergy advice, Weaning provides all the fundamentals parents need and includes thirty new healthy, delicious recipes with twenty simple puree recipes to get started.
Assumed every couple is a man and woman, over and over assumes everyone is breastfeeding, lots of really inaccurate info -- recommending white bread and pasta...??, very anti vegetarian/vegan (despite medical professionals disagreeing), and overall just very basic and nothing really original. Ridiculous number of fish recipes and recommendations don't match the high levels of mercury and other dangerous chemicals in seafood (there's a reason pregnant people aren't supposed to eat these foods...) overall found I didn't get almost anything new out of it and just very uninspired...
This is a great introductory book for parents thinking about weaning their babies. Although I'm not starting to wean my son for a couple of months, it pays to be prepared so I thought this book would be a good place to start.
The aims and objectives of weaning are clear; the book identifies why you wean your baby at a certain age (it recommends six months), and where to begin. It lists the essentials to buy, although not everyone will be doing baby led weaning of course. The author clearly advocates BL weaning, which is fine, but I would have liked to read some more justification for the alternatives.
For those wanting to make their own baby puréed foods, a large portion of the book is full of recipes. I will definitely try making a couple of those.
Overall, a great introduction to weaning and reassurance for anxious parents of young babies.
