June Hampson was born in Gosport, Hampshire, where she still lives. She has had a variety of jobs including waitress, fruit picker, barmaid, shop assistant and market trader selling second-hand books.

Mmmm..... I found this difficult to rate. Sometimes I really enjoyed it and other times I cringed whilst reading it. In other words, for me, there were nasty AND nice parts.
I'm not a great lover of the f and c words..... But I'm not a prude and I appreciate that for the time and location of this novel, this may have been apt.
Unusual to have a book where so many of the characters have a double side to their personalities. I expect this is the case for many gang members.

Maybe this was a book for a younger person?

I was given Trust Nobody and Broken Bodies as a Christmas present a few years ago. I hadn't known what to expect as June Hampson was a new name to me; yet I was thoroughly surprised at how much I loved these books.

I couldn't put Trust Nobody down and went straight into book 2. Daisy Lane as a character provides so much warmth and honesty throughout the text; it is hard not to like her.
On stumbling across book 3 in the library, I decided to re-read the series. I wasn’t disappointed and found parts of the story I had overlooked before or simply forgotten.
This book is an emotional rollercoaster full of grit, violence, sadness, warmth, emotion and love. There are not many books that bring a tear to me eye and laugh out loud at the same time.

I would definitely recommend this to a friend!

This is the first of the Daisy Lane series and it completely sucked me in! I love the way June Hampson writes with a background story being told for each character, how they came to be in the story and why that character is relevant to the plot. This is not always found in novels in the endearing way Hampson writes. In this first book we hear the stories of Daisy, Vera and Susie and how their lives came together. The book is well paced, moving on with the story in a way that keeps the reader gripped. With lots of twists, some expected and some not quite expected, I found this a fantastic start to the Daisy Lane story.

It was entertaining enough, but wasn't really my cup of tea. I was disappointed the Kray twins wasn't more involved with the story. The characters like Eddie, Kenny, Daisy and the others who worked in the cafe were well rounded, and interesting. However, I felt disappointed and angry in Daisy's decisions towards the end of the book, and feel Kenny was treated poorly and has my full sympathy. I wouldn't read it again, but would recommend giving it a shot if you have nothing else to read.

The queen tried to write smut, WHAT THE FUCK WAS THIS. The worst book I have EVER read and I have read a lot of books including the dictionary, even that was better. I want to commit suicide and will take the author with me, you're welcome. I would rather watch paint dry everyday for the rest of my life than read this book EVER again, in fact, take my eyes and ears so I am nor even able to. Please stay away from me everyone, I am not safe to be around.

Brilliant book

Really good story line, I love the character of Vera she so comical,can not wait to stay the next book in this series, can not recommend this book enough , not going to spoil this for anyone a different must read 5 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 and 10/10 to June Hampson and great narration by my favourite Annie Aldington, Annie really bring the characters to life fantastic book

Could not put down

Omg, I was a bit sceptical at first. Thought hear we go again! However, it soon got me wanting to read just a little more to the point I was nipping to the loo just to read a bit more. I'm a slow reader, but I can't wait to waid my way through the series.

I am seriously concerned about the star rating system because of the misuse it is open to with some readers.

A 'One star because I hate it!' is not good reviewing but at least it is a personal opinion.
a 'One star because the writer is a louse.' is not only poor reviewing it has nothing to do with the book.

I've held off reviewing this year because of this problem. As a writer I know how a low star review can actually stop sales. And I've seen how some readers seem aware of this and use reviews as a power weapon.

So I am not adding stars until we can have a two teir system where one can rate a book personally as I like or did not like the book becausse... and also rate a book from the writing point of view.


Back to 'Trust Nobody'.
Set in London in the 1960s we meet the main character, Daisy as she tries to cope with running a Café in the gangland area where the Kray brothers rule.

It's a gutsy story about Daisy and her friends, their way of life among bullies and illegal doings, and how Daisy tries to keep 'decent'. Friendship and loyalty play a major role in their lives.

The research is good. The story well written and tightly plotted with some unexpected twists. The author is personally familiar with that way of life and she writes honestly.

The book is not my cup of tea but it is a good read and exciting. Readers who like historical stories which are possibly within their own life time would enjoy this trip down memory lane. The Kray brothers made a lot of headlines in the 60s.

Wow what a book.
I pulled into the story right from the beginning and stayed there until the end watching the story play out in my head.
This book is packed full of surprises, suspense and grit. Daisy Lane is one bad ass woman.
As this book is based on Gosport in the UK, it was weird reading it, cos I was sat saying I have been there, I have seen this or that, as my grandparents lived there. I thought it was nice that I could identify with the place and surrounding areas.
If you like bo.ok that involve the world of the gang that run london like the Kray twins then you will enjoy this book.

I happened to come across this book in a bookshop by total accident, and thank God that i did. I read the book within the first 2 days of purchasing it, and it was an amazingly good read. The fast paced book tells a story from the different view points of the characters. During the story there was so many different twists and turns, that it was almost impossible to guess what events were to happen next.
This is by far one of the best books that i have come across in a while. I am certainly going to read the sequel, and other books from this author, who is new to me.

Being an Englander I generally feel more at home with stories set in my own country as they don't tend to have the superhero main characters that many of those from across the pond do. Not that I don't find those enjoyable too :) Like many books set in England, this is gritty and down to earth. I picked up as part of a 3 for £5 deal in Poundstretcher, so it was a bit of a bargain and more than worth the cost. While it was an entertaining read, it didn't set off any fireworks for me, but I enjoyed it enough that I would consider reading more of JH's work.

I always enjoy discovering a new author and reading the first in what I always hope is a fantastic series of books and the first 50% of this book was just that, fantastic. Nearly every character in the book I liked apart from a few which annoyed me and I had to skip past bits of their story. But the book was a change from reading about this era in London. Instead it takes place in Gosport. I just wonder where the series is going to go after the shocking ending, but the reviews on Amazon are strong and so I will persevere with the series and hope it's as good as the reviews say.

I found this book in the $6 pile and wasn't expecting much out of it. It turned out to be a fantastic read and I really enjoyed the characters. I didn't find them to be extremely believable but I don't find a lot of novels that take place in Scotland or London to be very believable.
It must be the Canadian in me.

I wasn't expecting much when I started reading it, and found it difficult with the english slang. But once I got past that the characters sucked me in. It is a gritty read and brought to life believable characters for that era and location. I didn't enjoy the ending as it was gloomy, even though it felt inevitable.

I am from Gosport and this book really captured my imagination. I felt like I was part of the story. The characters are gritty and interesting and it portrays a time which perhaps isn't as easy to see nowadays. June Hampson really knows how to pull the ready in and I couldn't put the book down! I recommend this book to everyone I meet. It is a must read!

The writing style was not for me. Usually the plot is able to save it. But I was not enjoying the plot. When a character was speaking, they had the accent of the way they were speaking, which made it hard to follow. I read 50+ pages but still had no clue what the plot was and what was happening. It was definitely not for me but it could be for someone else

I read number two of this series first and thought reading this one would be a bit of a waste of time, but not at all. It gets you in just as much as number two and is a book that's hard to put down! I've just bought number three and hope the adventure of daisy continues!

Enjoyed this one. Very similar in style to Martina Cole and Mandasue Heller, but set in the 60s in Gosport. I liked it enough to carry on with the other June Hampson books I have on my tbr.
