The Crows of Hidden Creek is story about crows. Based on actual crow behavior, tweaked a bit to make an exciting fiction story, the protagonist, Dak, is a typical pesky youngster, who delights in the freedom of youth. His grandfather, sure that eventually Dak will mature, doesn’t give up on him.
Increasingly, Dak’s antics get him into trouble, but the defining moment comes when he and friend CooCoo join a murder* of crows and get involved in a crow shoot. CooCoo is injured and the rest of the book chronicles their attempt to get back home.
I read this children's novel after meeting the author and was pleasantly surprised. I wasn't expecting to enjoy a juvenile fiction book so much, nor was I expecting to learn so much about crows. I had no idea that crows are such intelligent and interesting birds. The story was entertaining, educational and well-written.
