With a spin of the "wheel" the image changes. The colors are bold and beautiful and the pictures draw you into the exciting world around us. This would be a great compare/contrast book for the same places in reality. I bought this book because Salina Yoon is this year's summer reading program illustrator for TAILS and TALES! (2021) Unfortunately, this book is too special to circulate but I will be able to use it in story time! The hot air balloon and the fireworks are especially wonderful because we see those here in Seymour!
Alice loves this book. I think it is pointless. Three stars is a compromise. She broke the kite page before I even saw the book, so maybe that one page was really cool.
Mesmerizing book. not just pinwheels changing the pictures, but a kite flies in the air in a figure eight and a carousel horse goes up and down. Wonderful. Wish it were bigger for storytime!
Pinwheel is a beautiful book that both Sierra (3) and Connor (5) were equally enamored with. Each page has a different method of turning a pinwheel and seeing shapes, designs and colors shift and move. You'll see a train with a beautiful floral design that looks like it's shifting and getting smaller and smaller in the center. Another page has a school of fish following a giant octopus and the colors (which strongly reminded me of Rainbow Fish) shift and change making it look like they are swimming. You'll also see a circus wheel spinning, a kite dancing through the sky and watch the flame in a hot air balloon move and the stars spinning in the sky. This book is beautiful!
As with all books that have tabs and flaps that move you'll want to read this with your younger children so it lasts a while longer than if you left your kids to it. Each of the pages is a double thickness and it is considered a board book. I would suggest that you continue to read it as a group until your children are 5 or 6 years old and able to be "gentle" with the pages. Pinwheel will easily become a family heirloom if you and your children treat it with care and gentleness.
Disclaimer: I was offered a copy of this book to read & review on CCB. I was not required to have a positive review and no $ exchanged hands. Thanks!
OMG, this is such a cute and well thought out book for kids. I can't wait to send this to my "niece" in NY as she will be 3 this year. I said "niece" as I am an only child but my best friend made me honorary Auntie of her first and only child. Anyway, won this on Goodreads and am so in love with it. I showed it to my manager at work and she thought the same thing of just how cute and unique this book is. Kudos to Salina Yoon for creating such a creative and colorful children's book.
This book is beautiful and clever. I gave it to my daughter for her birthday and she had so much fun reading the book with me. My six year old and sixteen year old loved it! A great gift book.
