The use of case studies illustrates how problems of ritual and obsession can be used and redirected positively and shows how to structure play activities and overcome communication barriers by using picture cards. Each chapter covers a collection of ideas around a theme, including music, art, physical activities, playing outdoors, puzzles, turn-taking and using existing toys to create play sequences. There are also chapters on introducing reading and making the most of television. The ideas are useful both for toddlers and primary age children who are still struggling with play.

I got a number of great ideas from this book that I plan on implementing soon :) Although my daughter, who we believe has Asperger's ( we're still on the roller coaster of diagnosis after diagnosis after diagnosis) is rather high functioning for many of the things in the book.. there were many that could be adapted regardless of the level of disability the child shows. In all, a good read.. lots of good thinking points for common issues :)

Excellent resource. Have already started implementing some ideas with minimal effort, but I also want to re-read from the beginning and take notes.
