It's been quite a while since I've read anything to do with this series. It was mainly because I'd gotten tired of it, and was quite bored. But I just needed something short and quick to read, that I didn't have to search around for so I just picked this up from my nightstand. Took me a bit longer to get through than I thought it would, because I'm having an off, but it was nice to get back to this series.
There's still a lot of in-world political bullshit that I don't really care about. But again, it's still nice to get back into so I might pick up a couple more volumes while I'm in the mood.

The story is a bit dull when it starts off with Yuya and Kyoshiro. But as you progress, the plot thickens and newly cast members introduced piece by piece make this manga unique and a bit of a masterpiece. There are two main story lines: 1- Yuya is looking for the man that killed her brother and 2- Kyo is searching for his true body to exact his revenge. Every other plot in between just adds fuel to the story and lets you learn of the diverse background of many characters, friends or foes. The story itself was captivating and it is a shame that many people know of this series.

The art style refined over time, giving the battle scenes flaws execution. The each character had their own torments and demons to deal with but I would have to say that certain individuals needed more evolution or better backstory. The end was well received and left no stone unturned.

I have watched the anime adaptation and I don't recommend it. It doesn't do it justice.

Do I recommend:

Ah, nothing like a tragic trick-death to show a reader how much they actually like a character.

Samurai Deeper Kyo, Volume 27 begins with an emotionally wrought scene between Yukimura and his former Sarutobi Sasuke, Shindara the Immortal. If Shindara's unfailing loyalty doesn't tug at your heartstrings, then you are surely dead inside. His selfless sacrifices teach powerful lessons about unwavering dedication and friendship. I couldn't think of a better person to be the recipient of that devotion. It's tragic. It's bittersweet. And I hope that the outcome is happier than I suspect because I can't take all this sadness!

After the dust settles from Shindara's quick departure, Sasuke and the rest of the gang stumble upon Kyo and Yukimura preparing to have their long-awaited duel. The craving for battle courses through the veins of these crazy samurai warriors so much that the experience is nearly orgasmic for them. It's hilarious to see the others wanting in on the action.

I was thrilled that the battle showed them as equals. I love both of these characters and prefer to see them on the same side than against each other. Once Kyo and Yukimura end their friendly tussle, Akari offers to heal Yukimura's wounds. This is by far one of the funniest scenes in this entire series so far. Yukimura is smooth like buttah!

Meanwhile, the Mibu clan attempts to resurrect Nobunaga in Kyo's body, but something goes awry and another soul hijacks the body. With Kyo's body gone, the Mibu are forced to put Nobunaga in someone else's body. I'm really curious to see which body is now housing Nobunaga. I do have a hunch on who took Kyo's body and it has me so excited my skin has goosebumps.

See the lil' birdie? I'm thinking we might see Muramasa again. *crossing all fingers and toes*

At long last, the Four Elders arrive to confront the Four Emperors!
description

I had hoped that a full-blown brawl would ensue, but it sadly did not. The Four Elders create a giant chasm that leaves Kyo and his friends falling to the depths below. The group is scattered and when they awake from their fall, several of them encounter some familiar old faces. Akari's interaction with Hishigi has me very intrigued. I can't wait to find out their history.

Have I mentioned how much I ♡ Hotaru? I just can't get enough of this goofball. When he says a prayer for Shinrei's corpse with Shinrei sitting right behind him, it hurt my sides from laughing so hard. Hotaru and Shinrei can be very childish together, but under all that sibling rivalry is a lot of love.

The end of the volume follows Kyo and Sasuke as they end up in the Onmyo Palace's Latrine. Here, they are bombarded by the wacky Shihodo, who just might have the answers that Sasuke so desperately seeks. I'm not particularly looking forward to learning more about Shihodo, but the fact that she was once one of the Four Elders is interesting.

I'm looking forward to learning about who took Kyo's body and if we'll get to see Nobunaga's new form. The excitement is building but I find that what makes me eager to reach for the next volume is all of the witty humor. I love the Revenge for the Bear at the end of this volume. Hilarious!

Today’s post is on Samurai Deeper Kyo volume 27 by Akimine Kamijyo. It is the published by Tokyopop. As it is the 27th in the series you need to have the first 26. The cover has Kyo, Yukimura, and Bontenmaru on looking cool in watercolors. The intended reader is someone who likes samurai manga, lots of character’s, and unusual love story. There is no language, some sexuality, and lots of violence. The story is told from third person god perspective with character’s thoughts added in for character and plot development. There Be Spoilers Ahead.

From the back of the book- As Yukimura is on the verge of defeating the traitor Shindara, Kosuke rushes in to reveal the shocking truth behind Shindara’s betrayal. Just as the misunderstandings are put to rest, the Four Elders appear… to welcome Kyo and the gang into Onmyo Palace! What secrets are hidden within, and more importantly, will our heroes survive them?

Review- Yukimura gets some closure on some of his stuff. Sasuke decides that he wants to see this through with Kyo and company. Kyo and Yukimura’s fight is pretty good. Yukimura gets to show off to Kyo and they are friends again. But I think the best part of this volume is between Hotaru and Shinrei. It is so funny. They are wanting to argue and fight when some faceless baddies show up and stop them. So they decide that they have to kill faceless baddies so that they can fight. Hotaru is so funny. I imagine his voice is so flat; like he says everything in the same tone with the same inflection. After that we get back to Kyo and Sasuke and it’s Sasuke’s turn to be annoyed and confused by Kyo’s thought processes. More drama and action ahead and I cannot wait.

I give this volume and manga a Five out of Five stars. I get nothing for my review and I bought this manga with my own money.
