Finn Lynch lives a quiet, tranquil life in a rural village in the mountains. Her life may lack spontaneity and excitement, but at least it's peaceful. And if it's a little lonely too, then she can't complain too much - she's still happy, after all.
When her uncle asks her to house a defector from the magical war he's involved in, Finn agrees reluctantly despite her concerns that the presence of Regulus Black in her home will disrupt the careful peace she's been cultivating for years.
Nothing could prepare her for what an insufferable prick he is.
this is such a good book and I will die on this hill, I don’t care if its not traditionally published or that it’s actually a ff because this was better than a lot of the books I have read this year.
Wizargod you are forever in my heart, such a good story! it was so well written and every character felt really developed. Evan felt like such a good addition and it really helped the dynamic.
I loved regulus and Finn and I am not ashamed to admit that this is so good I have read it about 4 times already
I might move into a cottage after this, although I think it might be a little lonely. However, I can be lucky like Finn and some Reggie guy can land on top of me while being alone in a cottage, surrounded by a beautiful luscious garden.
This fic was so good! like so so so good.
Reggie was executed beautifully. Evan is well written, he’s such a sweetheart and Finn. Oh my God Finn, she’s so real she’s such a real character, such a real persona. I related so much to her ! I am so fed up of all the bad ass females out there fighting - barehanded - monsters. Don’t get me wrong Finn is a fighter too, but she does it in such a soft and feminine and human way. Her insecurities, her behaviour, her loneliness made me feel so close to her, that I really, genuinely, believe that I can put this fic amongst my favourites
The Studio Gibli vibes, the lake, the summer, Reggie and Evan being homie, cottagecore. Everything was so so beautiful. And obviously the love story. So cute and heartwarming and sweet and sad🤍🤍🤍🤍🤍 I liked this a lot more than The Salt and the Sea
One of the best fanfics I’ve ever read 🫶 this is by WizardGod on Ao3 (I think she’s on Wattpad too). She absolutely writes the best depiction of Regulus ever. And I love love love her original characters. She is just all around an amazing writer. To WizardGod: If you ever publish original fiction, I will buy it ALL in a heartbeat! 😍
I never took well to rural living. Perhaps this is a result of the ideology of Romanian rural towns, with the overall chaotic and unkempt atmosphere (and the outdoor bathrooms, god save me from outdoor bathrooms), it's actually pretty difficult to describe the Balkan rural territories, you just gotta be there to see it.
And sometimes I read books like this and I get jealous, not for the reality I know, but for the places the stories are told in. Sometimes it would be a Northern Italian vineyard or, in this case, Irish mountainside. I wouldn't mind living like Finn and Regulus here, feeding a kelpie at the lake every day, baking, having bubble baths reading a handsome man's biography (perhaps not Lockhart, though), baking and watching horror movies, enjoying time with absolutely no neighbours in the middle of nowhere near the mountains... Yeah. Hell yeah.
Regulus and Evan stuck in the middle of a muggle mountainside has been.. something. There is absolutely no way wizards don’t know what sheep are. I refuse to accept it. Different cultures, sure, but you’re telling me they’ve never seen a single sheep in a field? Or anywhere? Do they think wool just magically appears? (...Actually-) How do they know of deer then? These people looked me straight in the face (well, through the page) and referred to them as "strange creatures with big curling horns wandering around the grass". Wow. These guys encounter kelpies like they're ponies (pun not intended at the time) and lose their shit at a sheep.
I suppose this features one of (if not the) best straight smut I have ever read in my life. Not only was it gut-clenchingly hot, but Regulus Black knows his shit. No idea what girls he’s been with before, but whoever they were, they did God’s work. Seriously. That was unexpectedly impressive.
finished this in one sitting and the only thing i have to say about this is the slow burn wooooo it was delicious and finn although can come off as fiery is such a kind hearted person inside and regulus however long it took to see it was never the same after hence their epic love story. evan was such a fun side character and the angst between the black brothers and their interactions was so well written.
the sweetest most mundane love story in a beautiful setting that's out of a fairytale. magic explained as something so fascinating, fun, raw characters you fall in love with. one of my all time regulus favs
another fanfic but i legit love this author so much, also reading this and the salt and the sea with the spotify playlist they made is top tier!! more books need this.
i absolutely LOVE this book, like when he makes her a perfume, it’s just so cute ! finn and regulus will always have my heart !! I CAN NEVER GET OVER THIS BOOK ! 💝
edit : i’ve read this book over 3 times now 😋
