[Teacher waits for responses.] Now, let’s go back to the beginning and find out how these vehicles get to outer space.” Opening moves: helps children understand organization of book, models using table of contents, alerts reader it will be an informational book, engages attention Rationale: I chose this book to go with the theme of outer space. I wanted to include a non-fiction book in the set. I felt the language would be easy for first graders to comprehend. I also thought the full color photos included in the book would be very interesting for the students.
