Izzy's the newest member of the Southside High dance team. And she may have picked a bad time to join up. The team's captain, Camilla, is determined to win regionals by any means necessary. When the dance team discovers that Izzy is best friends with the leader of a rival squad, the pressure's on. Will Izzy injure her old friend to sabotage Southside's competition?
I really enjoyed this book because it was about one character and it didn't jump around form person to person. I would recommend everyone read this book, it's one of my new favorites.
At the start of freshman year, Izzy moves and is now attending her former rival school, Southside. Izzy makes the dance team, even though it means she’s now competing against her best friend, Leah, who attends Northside. When Izzy’s dance team captain finds out she’s best friends with their main competition for regionals, Izzy is pressured to spy and get valuable info from Leah. When the pressure intensifies, will Izzy be loyal to her best friend or to her dance team?
Teens who like drama and rivalries, especially within a dance team, will enjoy this book written at reading level 4.0. Reluctant readers will appreciate the short chapters and small number of characters.
This is one of several books in the high interest low level reading series Surviving Southside. I would highly recommend this series to struggling readers in grades 7-12. The books in this series are 95-100 pages and boost the reader's confidence by numbering the first page of the novel as page 7. Large font size and wide margins along with an accessible reading level (610L) make this an inviting read for struggling readers. The story is very predictable which would be helpful to struggling readers.
