4.5! I enjoyed this book. It was my first one on the topic of marriage. The author did a great job including guest contributors; Yasmin Mogahed was my favorite. I appreciated the inclusion of various Ayah and Hadith to validate her points. Also, she covered so many topics. She could have done more on the topic of pre-marriage with regards to the Wali and Mahr. It was done in an interview style Q&A with a contributor. The author often asked several questions at once and not all were answered thoroughly.
Very easy to read with some practical advice. A little bit of repetition. Marriage is an important institution in Islam, and can be a very beautiful thing if both partners are mindful and willing to put in the work. Some of the topics could have been explored further. Some of the topics were repeated. It is more so a compilation of different articles, some by the author and some by other contributors, into a chronological order from choosing a partner to after marriage. Would have liked more discussion on how to actually navigate a marriage, post-wedding, as for many Muslims, the marriage is the start of their first ever romantic relationship. Good advice generally. Nothing mind blowing, but I guess no one can give an absolute blueprint to a good marriage. Trust Allah and be kind to your spouse.
