Before Atlantis: 20 Million Years of Human and Pre-Human Cultures

Rate this book
A comprehensive exploration of Earth’s ancient past, the evolution of humanity, the rise of civilization, and the effects of global catastrophes

• Explores biological evidence for the aquatic ape theory and 20-million-year-old evidence of pre-human cultures from which we are not descended

• Traces the genesis of modern human civilization to Indonesia and the Central Pacific 75,000 years ago after a near-extinction-level volcanic eruption

• Examines the profound similarities of megaliths around the world, including Nabta Playa and Gobekli Tepe, to reveal the transoceanic civilization that built them all

Exploring emerging and suppressed evidence from archaeology, anthropology, and biology, Frank Joseph challenges conventional theories of evolution, the age of humanity, the origins of civilization, and the purpose of megaliths around the world. He reveals 20-million-year-old quartzite tools discovered in the remains of extinct fauna in Argentina and other evidence of ancient pre-human cultures from which we are not descended. He traces the genesis of modern human civilization to Indonesia and the Central Pacific 75,000 years ago, launched by a catastrophic volcanic eruption that abruptly reduced humanity from two million to a few thousand individuals worldwide.

Further investigating the evolutionary branches of humanity, he explores the mounting biological evidence supporting the aquatic ape theory--that our ancestors spent one or more evolutionary phases in water--and shows how these aquatic phases of humanity fall neatly into place within his revised timeline of ancient history. Examining the profound similarities of megaliths around the world, including Nabta Playa, Gobekli Tepe, Stonehenge, New Hampshire’s Mystery Hill, and the Japanese Oyu circles, the author explains how these precisely placed monuments of quartz were built specifically to produce altered states of consciousness, revealing the spiritual and technological sophistication of their Neolithic builders--a transoceanic civilization fractured by the cataclysmic effects of comets.

Tying in his extensive research into Atlantis and Lemuria, Joseph provides a 20-million-year timeline of the rise and fall of ancient civilizations, both human and pre-human, the evolutionary stages of humanity, and the catastrophes and resulting climate changes that triggered them all--events that our relatively young civilization may soon experience.

Frank Joseph is the pen name of Francis Joseph Collin, a former activist with the American Nazi Party/National Socialist White People's Party and the founder of the National Socialist Party of America. In 1979, Collin was convicted of child molestation and sentenced to seven years in prison, and he lost his position in the party.

Upon his release from prison, Collin reinvented himself under the pseudonym of Frank Joseph, a New Age writer and a pagan worshiper. In 1987, he had his first New Age book published, The Destruction of Atlantis: Compelling Evidence of the Sudden Fall of the Legendary Civilization.

He wrote articles for the magazine Fate, and between 1993 and 2007 he was also an editor of Ancient American. This magazine focuses on what it considers to be evidence of ancient, pre-Columbian transoceanic contact between the Old World and North America, with the implication that all complex aspects of North America's indigenous cultures must have originated on other continents.

Any book with the word “Atlantis” in the title deserves some skepticism. Hold off on that for this one.

We all know there was “Lucy,” the pre-human, in East Africa some three million years ago, about the time we came out of the trees, walked around the grasslands, and made tools. Then humans showed up about 1.5 million years ago. We marched out of there and across the world about five hundred thousand years ago, getting smarter all the time, and modern humans are on the scene fifty thousand years ago. Fine and dandy.

But this doesn’t really address some key questions. Why did Lucy’s descendants become able to hold their breath? Other primates can’t. What on earth caused us to develop a layer of fat under our skin. Other primates didn’t.

Marine mammals (whales, dolphins, etc.) can hold their breath and have subcutaneous fat. Were we once one of them?

Take another tack. We’re all familiar with dolmen structures, the huge table-like stones perched on top of upright stones, typically three of them. And probably we think of them as found in parts of Europe. Hard to get a stone weighing several tons on top of the upright stones. Lot of time and effort. Only humans could figure out how to build it. Had to be a purpose. Burial? Directions? Calendar? Maybe all of the above. Sure. But what if you counted them all? Answer, there’s over 70,000 of them. And you find them on every continent. They are spread throughout the entire world. Why? And did modern humans have enough time to build all of them?

Well, maybe they had more time. Is there any evidence humans have been around longer? Some. And it’s mostly ignored. For one, humans who worked with quartzite tools lived at Monte Hermosa on the north central coast of Argentina, an unbelievable 20 million years ago! One off? It just blows up the time-line we’re taught.

Here’s another one closer to home. Hundreds of well-crafted mortars and pestles have been found at Table Mountain in California. In four million year old strata.

Another. Humans left their footprints in 1.3 million year old rock at Puebla, Mexico.

Another. Seven hundred fifty thousand years ago, stone tool users lived near Frederick, Oklahoma.

These and many more thought provoking pieces of evidence abound in this book. Possible theories that accommodate them are just fascinating. Well worth a read.

He had me until he stated two things 1st he said that chimpanzee are incapable of holding breath yet there are evidences and videos of chimps confortably diving.

2nd he make free statement (well to be fair he quoted randomfact.com for this one) such as 79% of Africans are lactose intolerant, oh my i m from East Africa -Rwanda the culture there revolved around cows until very recent times when urbanisation and city life appeared. Milk was and is still the first choice of food parents fed their children, some people in northeast were fed only milk until 6 to 7 years old with no solid food. And this is common throughout Central East Africa and Southern tribes such as Massai, Nkole, Hima, Himba, Dinka, Tutsi etc. To state just like that 79% of Africans are lactose intolerant when whole tribes survived and still do on milk made me question the motive of the whole thing.

The author makes a compelling argument for a proto-history of a technological past not acknowledged by conventional historians, and of a time table of humanity that goes further back than the Fertile Crescent or Ancient Egypt.

I think there are some statements in the book which are contentious at Best.
It is also surprising that the author has completely avoided mentioning anything about Indus Valley civilisation that flourished around 3500 BC in India and Pakistan.

Great for people who wonder about the history museums wont cover. No politics, just a great deal of facts ignored by people looking for textbook contracts because they don't fit preferred theories. I always thought the scientific method started with ALL the facts and proceeded to general theories but that grows less common as the educational establishment decides what should have happened instead of what all the evidence suggests. Good s an overview and a deeper look as well.

Being a history buff I couldn't wait to read this book and it didn't let me down! The book covers everything from theories of evolution ( aquatic ape) to proof of pre-ice age, advanced cultures. I would suggest this book to anyone interested in the history of man that's not taught in school! Like always Frank doesn't let his reader down!

Interesting to read an unconventional view of early human and pre-human history and how sectie science can be in what it accepts. There science heresies and orthodoxies.

Great book. Frank Joseph does a great explanation of Elaine Morgan's Aquatic Ape Theory.

Not what I expected. This book challenges the mainstream scientific knowledge of human origins and evolution. It suggests that we are evolved from fish rather than mammals. Interesting theory, but there seems to be no concrete scientific proof to these arguments. I didn't make it through chapter 2.
