When Marine Corp test pilot, Captain Samantha Sheppard accidentally flies back in time and inadvertently saves the life of a WWII VMF Black Sheep pilot, she changes history and makes a crack decision to abduct him back to the present. With the timeline in jeopardy, she hides the handsome pilot at her secluded cabin in the Colorado wilderness.
But convincing her sexy, stubborn captive that he is now in another century proves harder than she anticipated—and soon it becomes difficult to tell who is captor and who is captive when the more he learns about the future, the more Sam discovers about the past, and the soul-deep connection between them.
As their flames of desire burn into overdrive, her flying Ace makes a historical discovery that threatens her family’s very existence. Sam’s fears are taken to new heights when she realizes the only way to fix the time-line is to sacrifice her captive hero...or is it?
It’s all my mother’s fault. She read to me when I was little and sparked my imagination. Now, my mind is the limit, and believe me, there’s no limit to my mind.
Hello, I’m Donna Michaels, NYT & USA Today Bestselling Award winning author of Romaginative fiction. I write romance through the H’s—Hot, Humorous, Heartwarming, with strong alpha cowboys and military men who are equally matched by their heroines.
With a husband retired from the military and now working at a brewery, four children, 2 granddaughters, 2 grandsons, several rescued cats, and my parents living with us, I never run out of material. From short to epic, my books entertain readers across a variety of sub-genres, and one has even been hand drawn into a Japanese Translation. Now, if only I could read it…
This book starts off with two female Marine pilots flying a high-tech aircraft that takes them directly to the South Pacific… and the year 1943. The time-travel method was certainly unusual (deviating from witches, curses, amulets or standing stones), so that definitely caught my attention. As in many time-travel books, the actual how/why time shift mechanics are not fully explained, with the author leaving it to the workings of fate. Captain Samantha Sheppard and her friend/co-pilot Maria kidnap Captain Mitchell to avoid changing the timeline (he was supposed to have died in 1943 and due to their unintentional interference he now lives) and they fly him back to the 21st century. Blending sci-fi and romance, the story pulled me in from the start. Mitch is a gorgeous Marine who starts off thinking she’s a German spy (the ensuing dialogue/interrogation is priceless!). While hiding in Sam’s grandfather’s isolated cabin, the sparks fly and their bantering is steamy. She is spunky and he is a dreamboat. They feel a “mystical” connection that is perfectly portrayed as we recognize a reunion between soul mates. The physical and emotional details are skilfully balanced, and their budding relationship is the best part of the story (along with Maria’s witticism spilled throughout the book). There is an unexpected twist near the end and our hearts break when they are forced to separate. The idea of Mitch/Jack/Sam is acceptable to me, but I would’ve honestly preferred simply Mitch/Sam and another way out of the timeline dilemma they later find themselves in. The author presents a satisfying HEA that is poignantly bittersweet, illustrating the necessity to sometimes trust in fate and destiny, and showing us why Mitch is the perfect captive hero. A lot happens in Donna Michaels' Captive Heart and just when you think you have it figured out something happens to completely catch you off guard. As the starter story to a new series the framework for an intriguing premise of time travel is set up (though with virtually no explanation or understanding of how the event occurs) with dashes of past life experiences and what it means to find your true mate and how the power of love always prevails.
The connection between Mitch and Samantha is there from the start but is allowed to slowly simmer to an immensely satisfying conclusion that rips your heart out along the way. Sacrifices have to be made for the greater good and it spoke volumes about the h/h that they were willing to put their faith in Fate to do what was right. From the beginning you know these characters will be heroic as Samantha has risen high in the ranks of the Marines through her mental and physical strength. She's strong-willed and doesn't back down from a fight and isn't afraid to speak her mind. Mitch's world gets turned upside down the moment that Samantha kidnaps him to set the timeline she disrupted back in order. For the first few chapters he thinks she's a spy which allows for some fiery verbal bantering with sexually tense undertones. Once he sees the proof though he easily transitions into modern times surrounded by people equally accepting of time travel. Mitch is a real man's man and doesn't want to rely on Samantha through the transition and luckily falls into just the right job with others easily accepting everything about him which at times seemed a bit unbelievable. Just when you think they've reached their HEA though Mitch's honor gets in the way as his true purpose is revealed which means the lovers are separated once again. The ramifications of this are heartbreaking and the emotional rollercoaster that followed had me screaming as we waited for Fate to set things right in a satisfying conclusion that pulls at your heart strings.
The sexual interludes between Samantha and Mitch were loving yet steamy and evolved at a believable pace and were nicely spaced throughout the story. The cast of secondary characters were delightful with each showing hints of emotional baggage that I look forward to learning more about as each deserves their own HEAs. Maria, Samantha's friend and co-pilot, was particularly fun with the rapid-fire humorous banter occurring between her and Samantha. It brought some comic relief to a story full of emotional intensity and has me already rooting for her to find true love in the next installment in this series.
Ms. Michaels has created a thoughtprovoking story that nicely blends two paranormal elements in an ultimately satisfying story. With a memorable cast of secondary characters there's great promise of more stories to come and I highly recommend this to fans of the paranormal and sci-fi genre.
Passing along a wonderful review I received from NOR!

Ms. Michaels has outdone herself yet again by writing another story in which her readers can’t help but fall in love with her characters. I loved that Marine Pilot Captain Samantha Sheppard was a tough, no-nonsense kind of woman who was smart and could kick anyone’s butt if need be. I loved seeing that she was a dominant female when the situation called for it, but Sam also had a deep, tender side to her as well. When she had to go back in time to the South Pacific during WWII on December 28th, 1943 to rescue Captain Anthony Mitchell, I felt she was the perfect person for the job. Once these two laid eyes on each other, I found it hilarious that Mitch thought she was a German spy sent to hurt him or possibly even kill him. I could easily see that there was an attraction between these two that was indescribable, but Mitch refused to give into being attracted to his captor…at least at first. This is another great story by Ms. Michaels that I enjoyed from cover to cover and I’m eagerly awaiting the next book to be released in this Time-shift Heroes series. Well done!
Marine Pilot Captain Samantha Sheppard is on a course to change history when her test flight takes her back to WWII to save Captain Anthony Mitchell, a Black Sheep pilot. But by saving his life, the remaining timeline of events change as well. Once the test flight is accomplished she has no other place to bring Mitch but to her family’s cabin in the woods of Colorado. Hoping that Mitch settles in, Sam never expects her plan to totally backfire and go against everything she planned in this delicate mission. Not to mention Mitch is the farthest from being grateful at the moment. Can these two work through their differences to change the course of history for the better? Or does everything come crashing down around them?
Captive Hero (Time-Shift Heroes Series) by Donna Michaels
Captain Samantha Sheppard, Marine Corp pilot, was on a test flight when something strange happened. She and her co-pilot, best friend, Maria are suddenly taken back in time. Caught in the middle of an air fight they inadvertently save the life of a WWII Black Sheep pilot. A pilot that Sam has heard many stories about from her grandfather who fought side by side with him. To keep from affecting the future, she abducts the pilot and hides him in her secluded cabin in the Colorado wilderness. But her captive believes that she is a German spy and refuses to believe that he is now in a different century. But as they grow closer and the desire between them ignites they discover that their connection is soul deep. But her flying Ace makes a historical discovery that could change her life along with her families very existence. The only way to fix the time line is to go back in time and sacrifice her hero.
Review: This was a really good book that I enjoyed from beginning to end. Some time shift books are confusing going back and forth between the times but this was well written and was easy to follow. Even with the rough start that these two have, their story is so romantic and sweet Theirs is a love strong enough to transcend the past, present and the future. Great read.

To be blunt I wasn't excited to read this book. By the end of the first chapter I was smacking myself for judging a book without even starting it. WOW! I had to put it down until later so I could read the whole boom in one sitting.
You become entwined and captivated by Mitch and Samantha's story. By the time I made it to the last couple of chapters I had gone thru almost a whole box of tissues.
I cannot wait for Maria's story to come out as I will probably have to make sure I'm free that day so I can devour it!
Donna pens "Captive Hero" a fantastic time travel story with characters that are strong and relate-able. A great love story that will hook you right in and one I recommend for all romance readers.

What a fantastic love story! I loved the chemistry between Sam and Mitch. I liked that they were both pilots. I don't find you see female pilots often enough in books. This book had me hooked from the beginning. I can't wait to read more in this series.
I have to say it's been a long time since I have read a book that made me laugh, cry, both happy tears and sad tears. This book did it all. What a love story. Can't wait for the next book.
