"The first conqueror came the day I received my first tattau. "
So begins Theron's tale, a story that will take him from his sacred mountain and the witch he loves to a world where women have but one need for men.
Readers of Water Witch will find this background story full of historical intrigue, enchantment, and old world mythology and legends with just a dose of reincarnation theory thrown in. Theron's Tale is novella continuation of an epic fantasy series of short stories and novellas for all ages but is recommended for those readers over 16.
Thea is a NEW YORK TIMES and USA TODAY Bestselling Author. She used to have a black lab at her feet when she wrote, warming up the calves. It can be cold in rural Nova Scotia. Now it's just a cuppa tea keeping her warm.
Her urban fantasy pulses with dark themes and action-packed intrigue. Her characters are always deeply wounded creatures struggling for redemption.

Ok I've not read any of the books that connect with this short novella but it was a freebie and I thought I'd give a new to me author a chance . Truth be told I had no idea what to expect . It's a scene of torture as Theron struggles not to reveal too much about his people and their powers . He was a character that clearly knew love and sacrifice but as his memories go back and forth between present and past it fleshes out the world the author has imagined. Admittedly it's very short but I quickly realised that two tribes had somehow become involved in a heinous ritual. With one tribe embracing the magic of their land and the other a matriarchal society that almost felt Amazonian. I can say no more as it would reveal too much but it's a dark world the author has created . Three send a half from me
I should have read other books in the series before this one, as it was hard to follow when I went in blind and didn't know anything about Theron or his people. This particular story was pretty brutal and not very enjoyable.
Theron's Tale (Tales from Etlantium #2) by Thea Atkinson is a book of reincarnation and legends. I must say I got a little confused at times and had to reread in places. I love her books but this is not one of my favorite of hers, it was okay, worth a read but not one of my favorite.
I feel like this book answered a lot of questions for me. You get a better understand to some of the characters actions and the how and the why. I did not enjoy this one as much as the others but it is necessary and very informative.
Even though I've not read "Water Witch" it did not take away any of the impact of this story for me. From the opening pages, Theron pulls the reader in. He is being tortured by Yuri and his man in the hopes that Theron will spill the secrets of the sacred mountain and the magic temptress, Elissa. In their youth Theron and Elissa are joined as one through the magic and their tattaus. Yuri wants to harness the magic, but Theron is loathe to spill the secrets so he starts at the beginning--the day when Yuri's mother captured and stole him from Elissa. The tale is told seamlessly through the present of unimaginable pain and the experiences of Theron's past. All the while, Yuri waits impatiently for the secret, but Theron, even in his agony, is the master of the day. "Theron's Tale" is a thoroughly engrossing tale.
The story hopped between Theron's past and his present situation, both woven together beautifully to reveal the story and learn more about the world Thea has created. I didn't want it to end. My only warning would be to make sure you are familiar with the Elemental Magic series this story is a part of. It had been a while since I read Water Witch and I had to pause to remember who Yuri was. The story definitely gave great insight to why Yuri is who he is. I enjoyed learning about his mother. You also learn about the relationship between the witch and her arm. Quiet the devotion. Once again, Thea has woven an enthralling tale that keeps the reader turning the pages.
Interesting piece of the bigger story, but I believe that I might like the author's offerings better if I start with an earlier book. As is I kinda felt like I was missing a lot.
"Theron's Tale" by Thea Atkinson is my 2nd read by this author. It is not a romance and it is a little dark. It is also a very quick read. Theron is hanging in a room and Yuri is slowly making sure that Theron tells him the whole story. It starts with Yuri's mother who is known as The Temptress of Clay and temptress means witch.
The story is about a tribe of women where the females are useful and the males are considered dogs with no wisdom. They are told to take what they can from the males but to kill them. Women are born with the "power" and inherit it upon the death of their Mother.
If you enjoy a dark, mystery you will enjoy this book.
Theron's Tale by Thea Atkinson is Book 2 of the Tales from Etlantium Series. This is a dark and short novella that takes place during the torture of Theron. Filled with history, legends and reincarnation, this story bounces back and forth between the past and the present as Theron’s tale unfolds. While this was an interesting read, I didn’t enjoy it all that much. It was alright but not my favorite.
Please note that an ARC was generously provided in exchange for an honest review of which this is both honest and completely voluntary.
I received Theron's Tale as a free copy from the author. The gifting did not determine the review/rating, which reflects my honest opinion. While this was not a feel good story, it was a wonderful example of a well-constructed htort story. Theron is a man being tortured, and during the procedure, reveals more of his story, hoping to delay the inevitable. People who are sensitive to violence/abuse will want to avoid this one, although, the author did a wonderful job.
This was interesting. I didn't really know where it was going,as it was the first book of this author's I have read. It was intriguing, though, and I am interested in reading more.
This was an intriguing novella, set during a torture scene as Theron recounts the story of his life, telling a tale of reincarnation, magic and a tribe of woman who see men as only having one use!
