The Dragonstone is a magical epic adventure where Hereditary Wizard, Feo, has to slay a dragon for an essential ingredient in the only spell that can save his homeland from the curse of the Sultan of the East. Feo and his companions battle the paperwork of getting through a rich and diverse city of thieves, corrupt officials and shady characters before embarking on a magical quest. Horsa (a warrior), Kirrin (Feo's feline familiar) Kimmi (the stable boy, turned adventurer & tracker) and Shallon (their guide) all travel with Feo into the depths of the countryside, facing bandits and time wasters to make the quest for The Dragonstone a nail-bitingly tense adventure.
If only Feo knew how to control his haphazard magical gift...
The Dragonstone starts with a curse by the Saltan of The East to make the peaceful land of Cardevin sink below the waves in around 30 days.
Feo - The hereditary wizard is tasked with overturning the curse, but he needs a Dragonstone as one of the main ingredients of the ritual, and for that, a dragon must be slain.
It becomes apparent very quickly that this is a countdown type story. The clock is ticking, and there's nothing more frustrating than bureaucratic nonsense when there's a deadline to meet. Sadly, Feo and the swordsman, Horsa, battle more than fire-breathing beasts, but they also have to fight their way through forms and paperwork.
The magic has defined rules and feels very real, and everything that happens has a good degree of logic attached to it, but as Lynn McInroy is an engineer, I would expect nothing less.
