In Bus Stop , Ruby Fay Burford , a Black domestic worker employed in the homes of wealthy white Texas families, shares her amazing life story. She vividly recounts her early family life as an African American woman growing up in rural East Texas, one of the more staunchly segregated areas of the Us. She begins her story with the accidental meeting at a bus stop of the man she would marry, Frank Burford. She knew from that day that he was going to be her husband-her life partner in everything. They soon fell in love and were married five months later in Dallas, where he had moved for his work. Ruby tells the story of their joy-filled lives together, of their lives as domestic workers in the homes of some of Dallas's most wealthy families beginning in the 1940's. Throughout the entire story, their love shines through-for their two sons, for their families, and for their friends. Ruby also recounts the struggles, agonies, joys, and everyday miracles that tested and ultimately enriched her. We can only hope that other's will also write their personal memoirs.
I won this book on Goodreads. It is a memoir of Ruby and her husband who she met at a Bus Stop. She was an African American domestic worker in wealthy Texas homes. She has a very positive outlook on life and enjoyer her work. It does sounds like the families were very nice to her giving thousands of dollars in bonuses. Her life had to be hard though since her two sons lived with her mother during the week and they just got to see them on weekends for 9 years.
I won this book on Goodreads. Ruby's outlook on life is one filled with gratitude and humility, even through events that she went through in the book. The editing could have been better, and at times the errors were distracting me from the story, but in the end, I did enjoy reading Ruby's story. I would be honoured to sit with her at a bus stop and have a conversation with her.
Reading "Bus Stop" was very short, but also very sweet.

Book was a step back through time. It was short but it felt like you really got to know Ruby and her family. Interesting all the way through. There is history and descriptions of southern life before segregation. I won this book in a contest and I enjoyed it very much.
