Striving to become Honoka's perfect boyfriend, Yamato begins looking for a birthday present that he feels Honoka will like. However, when he enlists Suzuka's help in his search for the birthday gift, Honoka takes notice and jealousy sparks. How will Yamato explain the situation to Honoka?

Volume 7 of the "Suzuka" manga is one of the weaker installments in the book series. While by no means terrible, the storyline feels a bit flat when compared even to the previous entry which already had a slight drop in visual quality. Here, events roll out quite predictably and most of the characters feel very linear in personality.

Despite these issues, there are still positives that manage to keep readers interested. The character relationships remain interconnected and the standout character in this volume is the sporty Miki Hashiba, who tries to find out more about the relationship problems that Yamato is having. Miki helps keep the story from losing itself into a mushy angst story by injecting a much-needed straightforward approach to the romance problems Yamato suffers from. Rather than going with the majority of characters that blame Yamato for everything, Miki finds herself sympathizing with him and tries to patch things up.

The artwork is all right in this volume. Although character designs are not as detailed as they should have been, the background art is nicely consistent and moody. Whenever characters are deep in thought and it happens to be night time, for example, the background feels very chilled with a perspective of the night sky hovering above a lonely and empty street. And chapters featuring sports practice are visibly amplified by the bright skies overseeing the bustling school field.

"Suzuka" Volume 7 is clearly misses the mark on story but is still a decent entry nonetheless. Some effective emotional moments are present when problems between Yamato and Honoka arise, and Miki is there to reach out and help make the situation better as much as she can. Just don't expect much more than this until perhaps the next volume of "Suzuka".

This manga presents "love" in its most immature form: one lover is playing hard-to-get and the other is enthralled. When the dynamic switches, the angst goes to the other partner. Honaka is a permanent kick-me person, so she will never get to dominance.

My only hope is that sports shows up in the last chapter.

Its Honoka's birthday & Yamato wants to get her the perfect gift. He has no idea what to pick or where to go, so what does he do? Ask Suzuka, his old crush & track teammate, to help him find the perfect gift. Will he find the best gift or will it all blow up in his face?

Suzuka: Volume 7 finally solves a problem I have had since Yamoto and Honaka started dating. They broke up, Hey, this book isn't about them as a couple, it should be about Yamoto and Asahina. Maybe Yamoto can now focus more on his track and can finally make his move on Asahina, although she will probably shoot him down again. I think that she is afraid of falling in love because the last guy she did fall in love with died. How? Not sure yet, but I am sure that we will find out someday.

I am also happy that Yamoto is finally going to take track more seriously. I hope that we will be able to see how fast he can really run. The story in this volume is wonderful and I absolutely loved reading this manga book. Someday, I hope that Yamoto will be able to break through the walls that Asahina has thrown up around her heart. You cannot go though your entire life without loving someone. You also cannot live in fear, whish is what she is doing. It will eat you up inside, which is what is happening to Asahina.

The Translation and Adaptation from Japanese to English is terrific. I love it when I can read one of these manga books and forget that it was not originally created in English.

As for the artwork by Kouji Seo, it is spectacular. When I think of great manga art, I think of Kouji Seo.

Overall, Suzuka: Volume 7 is a snappy manga book that kept me flipping the pages until I put it down with a smile of contentment on my face. Yamoto doesn't have Asahina yet, as she is still angry with him, but I think that there is hope for the future. Maybe we will find out in Suzuka: Volume 8. Man, I sure hope so.

I rated this book a 9 out of 10.
