The Kissing Deadline was pretty cliche and very boring to read. It’s about a girl who is one hundred percent shy and doesn’t know how to talk to boys. Let alone kiss a guy.

So what does Cassie do? Well she comes up with a kissing deadline for herself. She’s going to be turning 16 real soon and doesn’t want to be the last 16 year old who has never kissed anyone. She has a romantic interest but he’s way out of her league. Mostly because he has a girlfriend.

Yep. Total bummer for her - right? Well things start turning in her direction because he is intrigued by her. I was sort of shipping Cassie with someone, well anyone really, since Ryan had a girlfriend. But of course. She would only share her first kiss with that guy. So I had to start shipping them together real quick.

Overall, it was an okay book. I wouldn’t go out of my way to reread it. It was predictable but sort of enjoyable.

To be honest, during the first half of the book I could already imagine my awful review on Goodreads. I kept reading though, and it got better (but not by much). However, I still think there were a huge number of flaws in it. The third person perspective was very confusing, and most of the time I had to reread each sentence until I got it. Also, the characters just seem so fake to me. It's as if Ryan, the guy of her dreams, just magically falls into her arms. And, the school is very confusing too. Who exactly is Coach, and why does he teach lab? And what is up with the school's obsession with drills? Not to mention, it seems like there are about 20 people in their school, because how else would the exact same people be involved in everything? Cassie implies that Ryan is some unattainable guy, and the next thing you know, he's sitting at her lunch table. WHAT? This is just seriously wacko. I can go on and on with more flaws, but I choose to end here. Everyone loves a happy ending, but all this just kinda took the satisfaction away from me. The concept and my utter sucker-ness for a happy ending are the sole reason for the 2 stars.

Damn this was so funny, is she really that unlucky and well undesired?. hahah, But what do you know, her crush noticed (he was already intrigued) her when she let her hair down!. i wish that it was that simple with my crush XD.

Terrific YA romantic comedy

Fans of "putting on a play" young-adult comedies, such as "Fame, Glory, and Other Things on My To Do List" by Janette Rallison, classic John Hughes teen comedies such as "Sixteen Candles" from 1984, or the adult romantic comedy movie, "You've Got Mail," will greatly enjoy this fast, fun comedy of errors.

Cassie is an almost-sixteen sophomore who has never been kissed, mainly because, as a shy introvert, she's never dated. Her two best friends insist it's past time for her to launch herself into the world of dating, and they set a deadline that before she turns sixteen in a few weeks, she must kiss a high school boy. Ideally, it would be someone she is attracted to and is dating, but her friends proclaim that being kissed is the paramount necessity, and they have a ten-step plan for accomplishing the goal of shoving Cassie out of her shell.

When they announce their mission to Cassie, it immediately becomes obvious to her friends that though Cassie is at the Volkswagen (or even motor scooter) level of the school's social hierarchy, she has Ferrari tastes. Gorgeous, popular Ryan is, even as a sophomore, one of the hottest guys in school, way out of Cassie's league, and she's had a hopeless crush on him for ages. Not only doesn't he even know she's alive, he has a girlfriend, a cheerleader named Amber who is Cassie's complete opposite. She's as good-looking and outgoing as Ryan, a co-equal member of the school's elite, and her family is almost as prosperous as his. What Ryan doesn't seem to realize, though, is a major flaw in Amber that is glaringly evident to everyone else at school--she doesn't know the meaning of fidelity, as she blatantly cheats on him with multiple boys.

As part of their plan to put Cassie where she has a chance to interact with kissable boys, her friends urge Cassie to try out for the school play, something her BFF's do every year and Cassie never has. No one is surprised when Ryan wins the male lead and Amber is selected as his leading lady, and Cassie is relieved that she herself is only offered a small, non-speaking part. But unfortunately for her issues with shyness, Cassie is also chosen as Amber's understudy. Because of Amber's flakiness about showing up for play practice, the director commands Cassie to take Amber's place, and she's overwhelmed by the simultaneously thrilling and terrifying experience of acting the part of Ryan's beloved on stage.

This is an extremely cute story that is a terrific combination of chick-lit-style, comic, relationship disasters and sweetly sexy romance. Cassie is the classic, naive heroine, and Ryan is a fascinating combination of socially savvy male and seemingly clueless cuckold. In the midst of the comedy, though, Ryan's motivation for staying loyal to his unfaithful girlfriend is carefully and believably exposed.

In addition to the comedy created by the main storyline of the kissless Cassie, there are many moments of laugh-out-loud humor generated by the antics of two marvelous subcharacters who are my particular favorites in this book, the school's coach, who also teaches science, and Cassie's younger brother.

Though this isn't a traditional romance in the sense that Ryan is not technically available to potentially date Cassie for most of the book, the plot device of a central romantic conflict of one of the romantic protagonists being tied up in a relationship with an unfaithful partner is a popular, time-honored trope in romantic comedy movies, and it works very well in this book.

I am a huge fan of comedy in general, and romantic comedy in particular, and I am always delighted when I am fortunate enough to encounter YA romantic comedy. It is, sadly, far too rare, with so much emphasis in the YA market on melodramatic plots, whether in the form of family/social drama or horrifying dystopians. It is the proverbial cherry on the top of the sundae when the YA, romantic-comedy author I discover has as much talent as Emily Evans. In my humble opinion, she is a rising star worthy of the ranks of YA luminaries such as Janette Rallison, and I have read with delight every romantic comedy she's written so far.

Parental Guidance: As is the case with all YA books by Ms. Evans, this is a "clean read," with no more overt sexuality contained in the book than kissing, no swearing, and no drunken, underage parties.

I purchased this book in a Kindle edition, and it is well edited and well formatted.

I rate this book as follows:
Heroine: 5 stars
Hero: 5 stars
Subcharacters: 5 stars (I'd give the coach and the heroine's brother 6 stars if I could!)
Comedy-of-Errors Plot: 5 stars
Romance Plot: 5 stars
Writing: 5 stars
Overall: 5 stars

It was okay.

A lot of things were just thrown into this book, and they made no sense, like how David just disappeared from the story. He's a character that does not even require a name, just Boy #1 or something.

I was quite peeved when the author made Cassie kind of clueless when it came to sports. I mean, I don't know anyone who is that unfamiliar with a sport. Unfamiliar to the point of ignorant.

Another irritating part of the book was the football/soccer game. I don't think the author did her research for the sport.

If the author plans to put sports in her books, she should research basic rules of the game. For example, Ryan plays football/soccer. During a game, he was subbed out, then subbed back in... This subbing back in is against the rules in football/soccer. Once a player is subbed out, he/she cannot return to the game. That's it. It's "You're benched" all the way till the end of the game. Tough luck.

I was sooo irritated that I was mentally pulling my hair.

This one is one of Emily Evans more juvenile reads.

Cassie is shy. She doesn't speak much and she's never been kissed. Cassie's friends aggressively want to change that.
Cassie's not into sports but a lot of the book takes place with her biology teacher who is also the sport-obsessed Coach. He is really competitive and is forever making sport references that Cassie doesn't understand. Ryan has to explain everything to her.

Ryan is effortlessly attractive. He didn't have to do anything or say anything to win me over. I just liked him straight off the bat. He's struggling to accept his parents' divorce and that makes him slightly more distracted at school. He doesn't want to split up with his bitchy girlfriend for a bit of an odd reason, but it worked.

My biggest issue was the writing style. I didn't like the third person narrative much, but mostly it felt a bit monotone

Then there are some issue I had with details that were a bit over the top or things that didn't add up. Like Ryan is unattainable but he is best friends with her BFF and sits on the same table during lunch. In every scene there are the same people - well more or less anyway which makes it feel like a theater play actually

I like the concept behind this and the storyline is cute. There are some funny moments - with a bit of ironing out this could be really good cute & fluffy

After reading such a heavy story, I feel like reading something light and cute. Yeah, even if its cliche.

The plot is quite okay but somehow confusing for certain parts. Like some parts of it, I feel like it can still be organized properly.

The characters are what spoils it. Thought of giving it 4 stars, but the development in each character is like 0%. I see none except for Spencer. However, others are quite a disappointment.

All in all, its just average. Not too bad to the point I cant read it at all. At the same time, not extremely good that it made me feel a lot of emotions throughout reading this story.

If I’m going to be totally honest, my hopes were not high for this book.. but I can admit I wrongly judged a book by it’s cover. I adored this book.

I know some might disagree but I found Cassie super relatable... high school is a rough place and there were plenty of Ambers were I went to school. I liked her attitude and I appreciated her innocence.

Ryan.... Ryan was swoon worthy to say the least. I loved his character and every girl had their Ryan when they were 16. So adorable.

I loved this book, it was a cute and light read.

Cutesy

Very cute YA book but nothing more. It was very predictable and cutesy. And I’m actually re reading this after so many years.

This one is a really cute story about a girl who's about to turn sixteen and has never been kissed. Her two less shy friends devise a plan, a series of steps to ensure Cassie doesn't reach her sixteenth birthday without doing so. As a part of this plan she finds herself understudying the lead for the school play opposite her long time crush Ryan.

There's not a lot to say about this story, the plot is cute and funny without foraying into that can't look sort of awkward embarrassment. I really enjoyed the story and the characters and would recommend the work to anyone interested in reading a light hearted teen romance.

The story was okay....that's it. Okay...
Not that it was bad...just that it couldn't reach or touch me a lot...
Some moments were good...no doubt...
But I think the author could have done so much...
The author could have used David's character in quite a lot of interesting ways...but didn't..
Also...the protagonist always ended up embarrassing herself in some way or the other or some other person ended doing that...and she never stood up for herself and fought or retaliated in the least bit..
Not sure if I like my main characters like that or not...

I think the author was cool at making her own standards when it comes to writing. She pleases no one and writes what she likes to write. I can feel that attitude and I like it in a good kind of way. She really sticked to the title and didn't go further beyond the topic. But, for some I think they'll find it fast-phased and anti-suspense. What I don't like about the story is it's lack of written emotions, as well as supporting details and adjectives. I don't have a clue what the characters look like. Nevertheless, this will be a click for YA readers, that I am sure.

I didn't like this book at first because i got a little confused with how the author was telling the story, but this book definitely made me laugh and it was such a fun read! i loved that it had that light cheesy highschool romance! I also loved the fact that Cassie and Ryan's relationship wasn't rushed and that they definitely started out as friends.

A very very forgettable book.

I remember reading it 2 weeks back and I cant really remember anything about it.
I vaguely remember thinking its like 16 Candles but much more boring.

And I didnt see much change in Cassie and Ryan, for all his hotness, seems so attainable.

Well... its like meh.

This was truly a funny, silly high school story. The main character had so many obstacles and catastrophes trying to get kissed before her sixteenth birthday that it was absolutely hilarious. I appreciated that it was clean and the language wasn't too offensive. Appropriate for teens by I enjoyed it as an adult as well. I recommend it.

Relatively cute and pretty funny (the mono bits were awesome). Given that I managed to finish it in slightly over an hour while bored out of my mind during a break in school, it wasn't a tedious read either. I just couldn't take to the writing style.

This was cute. An easy read for when you don't want to think. Good for pre-teens.

My issues with it:
Poor ending: her kiss is very sudden, I thought I had missed a chapter or something
A tad unrealistic.

But:
I liked the characters

It is a book for younger readers so...
