By the time I was finished with this book, I came to see how it might be a good adjunct book to a grade school history syllabus, a way for kids to reinforce the ideas from class and other reading. For the first 50 pages or so- I found it the most cloyingly poorly written history book I had ever read. It is not labeled as a youth book, but the style is such that any adult will feel out of place immediately. The conceit is that we focus only on one month of the war, but the net effect is that the author ends up doing so much back filling story to explain each factor, that the book is a mess. A possible winner for the young and casual readers, but any serious history consumer will easily find other better choices...
