A decent account largely based on white diaries and reports. The best thing about this book is the cover! The narrative is serviceable but rather pedestrian and too little is presented from the perspective of Dingane. Although the Zulu king was a ruthless dictator, it would be good to delve more deeply into his motives and aspirations, particularly with reference to his view of conflict and cooperation with white forces both official and otherwise.

For a historian of South African history, a must read.
To fully understand our history, and how the political landscape developed, you cannot rely on only the last few years. Please be responsible, if you do not have the full picture, refrain from taking part in discussions regarding our "history".
After reading the book, I wonder if there is still any one of the Ndwandwe, Mthethwa and Qwabe clans alive?
