The best type of growing up involves getting down and dirty

Vicki Hansol made different choices than her less-than-reputable mom and sister, yet her fiery temper has left her branded with the same town-bad-girl label. When she desperately needs a change of scenery, her get-out-of-town-free ticket arrives—and requires she face down one of her deepest fears.

Easygoing Joel Coleman has nothing to complain about, but he’s never really done anything to brag about either. The youngest member of the Six Pack Ranch is looking to make some changes in his life that include stepping out from under his twin brother’s shadow.

So when the bold beauty with the smart mouth approaches him with a proposition, Joel is intrigued. Her request for him to teach her to ride soon takes on a whole new meaning. All that passion in his arms, his bed, in the barn…hell, anywhere he can get it? Bring it on.

But tangling the sheets leads to unanticipated complications, and by the time the dust settles, everything family means is going to be challenged.

Caution: Saddle up for some youthful vigor applied with great enthusiasm. Ropes, rails and raunchy sex—there’s more places to get dirty around the ranch than first meets the eye.

Vicki Hansol has lived her whole life under the town’s scrutiny. Her mother and sister have terrible reputations and the assumption is that Vicki must be the same way. But it’s not true at all. She wants nothing more than to get out of town and have a life away from the rumors. When a job opportunity arises that will give her that chance, she wants nothing more to accept. But first she’ll need to get over one of her biggest fears.

While Joel Coleman has a similar kind of reputation, his is looked on in such a different way. He and his twin, Jesse, are known for their female conquests and the fact that they often shared their women. But Joel is tired of that and he’s been trying hard to grow up and break away from that lifestyle, much to his brother Jesse’s dismay. He sees the relationships that his older brothers have and he sees them with their children and he knows that one day that is what he wants too.

No one is more surprised than Joel himself when pretty Vicki Hansol approaches him one day with a proposition. She needs to overcome her fear of horses and she thinks Joel is just the man to do it. It’s no secret that Joel has noticed Vicki before and he jumps on the chance to help her out, but he’s got a proposition all his own.

It’s no secret that I am a fan of Ms. Arend’s Six Pack Ranch series. And with each story I am pulled further into the world that she has created here. Joel’s story surprised me; it was not what I expected at all for him and I am thrilled with the direction the author took his journey. Vicki was also a surprise and really just perfect for Joel.

In the earlier books, Joel, along with his twin brother Jesse were portrayed as your basic man whores. They were proud of their reputations and used it to their advantage, carousing and bedding lots of willing women. Somewhere along the way, Joel decided he was done with this lifestyle and it was time to grow up and start being a man he could be proud of. He took his ranch work more seriously, and was avoiding the “party” scene to the best of his ability. I loved seeing this change in Joel. I had wondered what the author would do with the twins; how she would give them their story or stories and I incorrectly assumed that a menage was in order. As that would have been my least favorite outcome, I was thrilled that was not the direction she took.

I loved Vicki as well. This is a young woman who has spent her life cleaning up after a mother and sister. The town assumes she’s a slut-she must be if her mother and sister are. But even under the negativity of a small town, Vicki does not fall into that life. She lets people say what they want and make their assumptions, and she does not let it deter her from her plan to be better and do more with her life. She is smart, has an awesome sense of humor and when an opportunity presented itself, she did what she had to do to see her dream realized.

The author treats us to some lovely surprises where this couple is concerned as well and I loved how they were given to us. Vicki has a secret and when Joel leans it, it changes everything. Their romance is perfectly drawn out and moves in slow steps much like the way Joel deals with Vicki’s fear of horses. It was not difficult to love this couple.

I disliked the changes in Jesse’s character. Joel and Jesse have always been close and while I understand Jesse’s feelings toward the change in the brotherly relationship as Joel starts getting closer to Vicki, I was very confused by it. Why wouldn’t Jesse be happy for Joel? The author has always expressed that this is a family that sticks together and the strong family values displayed through the series have been one of my favorite points. I would have liked just a little bit more interaction with Jesse and Joel and maybe a hint of why the situation bothered Jesse so much. I don’t think it was jealousy; Jesse’s negative reactions were much too strong for simple jealousy. I think something else is going on; something big.

And then there is Travis. I love Travis. In each book, his character has left me with more questions than the one before. Travis has some major issues, but from book one he has been mine. I need to know his secrets and I want to understand him and I especially want him to be happy. The author has strung us along in many ways, hinting and then confusing us. I don’t even speculate anymore. I have decided to just wait for his book.

A perfect addition to this series, I definitely recommend to fans of contemporaries with hot cowboys and strong family ties. I would also recommend reading in order for continuity purposes.

There are some authors out there that never cease to amaze me and Vivian Arend is one of them. Authors who can continue to put out book after book in a series and keep you wanting more are special and with Viv’s latest, Rocky Mountain Rebel she not only makes me want more, she has me more intrigued than ever. While the plot line is very similar to the last release, this book is totally different and extremely special. I will admit I was a little surprised Vivian chose to focus on Joel (the youngest and one of the twins) than Travis who I’m very intrigued by and even more so now after this book. However, I am so pleased with this story that I got over it and I’ll even go as far as to say this is my favorite in the series to date.

Vicki Hansol has had to live with her family’s reputation all her life. A mother and sister who bed and use men, everyone assumes Vicki is just like them. Little do they know that is so far from the truth. On her own since she was 16, Vicki has had a tough life and sometimes her temper gets the best of her. When she is offered a job that will get her out of town she’s excited but she needs help to make her dream come true so she turns to someone she knows can help her.

Joel Coleman has pretty much lived in his brothers’ shadows his entire life. While he’s been content to go with the flow lately he’s been making some changes. First no more threesomes with his twin, Jesse and secondly, less partying with a rowdy crowd and more family time. When he witnesses Vicki taking out a jerk, he’s more intrigued than ever but when she asks for help he decides he’s a lucky man.

Watching Joel and Vicki working together towards a few common goals was fun. Joel’s lessons to help Vicki with her horse phobia were entertaining and interesting but his “rewards” were even better. I loved watching these two get to know each other and Vicki discovering her new found sexuality. Vicki is so spunky and outspoken one minute, but timid and shy the next; she’s such a contradiction but that just makes her even more endearing. Joel exhibits such patience, something you often don’t see in someone his age. I love how concerned he is for Vicki and how he comes to realize how easy his life has been. His absolute need to protect her is stuff fairytales are made of. While it was enjoyable watching the ever changing relationship between these two, watching Vicki be taken in, accepted, and loved by the huge Coleman clan really had me choked up.

These two take foreplay to a new level and despite Vicki’s inexperience they leave no surface untouched once they embark on their sexual journey. The fact that they are caught in a compromising position by more than one of the Coleman clan on more than one occasion should tell you they find it hard to keep their hands, lips, and other body parts to themselves!

This story is different because there really isn’t a big “blow up” between this couple. That’s not to say they don’t have some issues they have to resolve or that everything is perfect but honestly, they are a pretty easy going couple. Maybe that stems from the fact that neither of them ever considered them a “real” couple despite their growing feelings for one another. There are several outside issues they have to deal with as a couple but in doing so that only makes their bond stronger. Once again, I want to state that Gabe Coleman truly is an angel and he proves it again when he gives Joel some very good advice. I truly adore that man!

This story is about forgiveness, learning to believe in yourself and others, and being thankful for what you have while understanding that others aren’t as lucky as you. It’s about letting go and acceptance, but most of all it’s about family. Rocky Mountain Rebel is a wonderful addition to an already fantastic series. With each book, I fall more in love with the Coleman clan and with Vivian Arend. She is one talented author and I can’t wait to see what she has in store for the next Coleman who falls!

I was much more connected, and felt for, Vicky than I did for some of the other female characters of this series. My main issue was the ending didn't answer a lot of the things that I was hoping would be tied a little bit more snuggly. Like Eric, and is he a problem any more? Jessie I can see leaving up in the air for his own book. But her mother and sister? and the issues. Yes, real life and they don't get resolved but... it would have been nice to see her get a little respect from some people other than the Coleman's. The treatment from the town because of her admitting to one thing, a long time before, just is over the top and it would have been nice to see it taken down a peg. I felt a little bit like it left me hanging, even though it wasn't a cliffhanger. I wanted the epilogue where some injuries are fixed. Sigh. And here I was complaining about have too much of other people's stories in the last book, I'm going to be wanting the rest of Joel and Vicky in the next.

What it's about: This is the fifth book in the Six Pack Ranch series and deals with Vicki Hansol, she's not a bad girl, per se (like her mother and sister), yet her temper does seem to get her labeled as such. She decides to strike a deal with Joel: She "pretends" to be his girlfriend, and he teaches her how to ride horses. Of course, there's heat, steam and some interesting scenes … wink wink …

Why you should read it: Vivian writes fun, steamy reads with twists and some interesting (hah, that word again) scenes between characters. While I loved Vicki and Joel, I felt for Jesse. I hope he gets his own HEA, and I hope it changes him for the better. If you like smexy cowboys, a strong, spirited heroine and fun times, then pick up this series.

Joel & Vicky were great. I think my favorite part of this book is how much it was focused on the main couple. There’s some updates on couples from previous books and teases of a few up next - but getting to know Joel and Vicky so completely was awesome. I enjoyed the “just lovers to more” trope. Plus their growth as individuals. Lots of fun dates, interactions, and conversations.

Joel’s twin Jesse and Vicky’s family caused some drama as did a few of the townspeople - but it wasn’t OTT and worked well for me in terms of pacing.

The ending was wonderful and I loved the epilogue. Can’t wait for Travis’s book. And eventually Jesse’s.

Narration:
Love Tatiana Sokolov’s narration. Giving the characters that definite Canadian sound without being a caricature. Plus this is a HUGE cast of characters and they all get a unique voices. And the emotions. I cried and laughed and felt fully invested in these two.

It took me a few chapters to get used to the self-imposed new and improved Joel... I still remember the wild twin shenanigans he and Jesse pulled in earlier books of the series and had to get used to this more serious Joel. Joel was adorable...and then he started the dirty talk and went from sweet to sexy hot!

There was a lot about Vicki I liked. I really liked her dry sense of humor. It had a way to cut a few tension-filled moments.
Her suffering from her mother and sister's loose & easy reputation really got to me. And I loved her fiery short temper and stubborness.

I really liked how both Joel and Vicki are trying to do the same thing and to leave their wild days and bad boy/family reputations behind them and "better" their lives. Ironically Joel's reputation is perceived with admiration by the same people who see Vicki as a harlot just because of her family's reputation and disregard for decency.

I also loved how this all was merged with the romance that developed between the main characters. The romance was one of the sweetest I've read lately! It was wonderful to read how Vicki experienced things that were new to her with so much wonder and enthusiasm.

It's no secret Dan and Beth are my fave Six Pack Ranch couple and I loved seeing them and the boys make an appearance in ROCKY MOUNTAIN REBEL. Especially Robbie has my heart and he made me have a few 'awww-moments'. I also loved Matt and Hope and ever since a few books back Travis has definitely redeemed himself to me. Jesse however has taken over Travis' dubious role of the character I get enraged with but at the same time feel sorry for. He said and did some things I really expect grovelling for before I'll get him off the naughty chair (and I don't mean the good naughty here LOL).

This series is hands-down my favorite Vivian Arend series! There hasn't been a single installment I didn't love and I hope there's plenty more to come for me to enjoy. Next up is Travis and I can't wait to see what Viv has in store for him.

Fave Scenes:
- that first kiss in the Coleman barn > that was hot from leading up to it to the kiss itself.
- the end of the piggyback ride > funny, hehehe
- campfire with Travis & Ashley > wow, go Joel! :)

Fave Quotes:
“If I promise there will be no games with Jesse involved, will you go out with me?”
Her righteous anger blurred into confusion. “Go out—? Joel, I want to learn to ride.”
He tried, he really tried, but he couldn’t stop his lips from twitching, even though he buried the full-out grin.
She swung a fist into her thigh hard enough it had to hurt. “A horse, you ass. Yes, I know the goddamn song, but I want to ride a horse without freaking out.”

Her mouth twisted into this teasing grin. “You saying you suck in the sack, Joel? That’s not what I’d heard.”

She dropped the idea of crawling into his lap and rubbing all over him like a lovesick cat.

She stroked the side of his erection and Joel shook his head. “Troublemaker. You need to concentrate on what you’re feeling, not on making me go off like a firework out of schedule.”

[Joel] Hey, who said I did something wrong?”
Travis grinned. “You’re a guy. Means you had to do something wrong. Accept it, and life gets easier.

4 1/2 stars. Yum, will have to read the rest in the series!

“Rocky Mountain Rebel” by Vivian Arend is Book 5 in the ‘Six Pack Ranch’ series and features twin Joel Coleman who is finally ready to take a slightly different path than his brother Jesse. Feisty Vicki Hansol knows all about trying to fight against preconceptions and live her life differently from the rest of her family but she never expects the changes that will accompany her quest to become comfortable around horses so that she can apply for a job which may be her way to escape the rut she is in. Joel is astounded to realize the number of ways he can tutor the innocent but prickly woman but his interest in her is complicated by his family and all of the barriers that Vicki has developed in self-defense. Fortunately, neither is a quitter.

A deliciously sensual western romance that continues the stories about the hardworking cowboys on the Six Pack Ranch. The desperation that causes Vicki Hansol to look for a way to overcome her phobias makes her brave enough to approach Joel Coleman but her demand that they keep the arrangement a secret leads to inevitable complications. Joel finds a way to pleasurably tutor Vicki in more than the proper frame of mind to deal with horses but one would think that they would be a little more circumspect after being caught in a compromising position more than once! The sizzling lessons that the sexy cowboy undertakes certainly would take one’s mind off of anything else but it was disappointing to see his twin Jesse’s immaturity and I look forward to seeing him become a more worthwhile adult. This spicy story was a fun read and I am delighted to have found a new author to follow and will be looking for the earlier tales centering around the Six Pack Ranch.

Vicki Hansol has lived her life in the shadow of her families tainted reputation, although the rumors surrounding her are untrue, no one has ever taken the time to find out. When a job opportunity lands in her lap, it is just what she is looking for except one thing, she will be around horses which one bad experience with has left her frozen in fear when they are around. Seeking the help of the only person who seems genuinely nice to her, Joel Coleman, she sparks a deal he trains her to get near a horse and she in return becomes his girlfriend for the next several months.

Joel wants to break away from his reputation of being a player with his twin brother, he sees Vicki’s proposal as the perfect opportunity, but Vicki wants more in the relationship if they are going to pretend why not make it real for those months. Joel has no issue with that, but he plans to set the pace and hopefully change the towns mind about Vicki who he knows is nothing like the reputation she shoulders.

4.5 stars. This is a great addition to the Six Pack Ranch series. Joel and Vicki have undeniable chemistry and I loved how they went from friends to lovers as the story unfolded. Joel was swoonworthy and the way he cared for Vicki made him that much more appealing. I adored Vicki from the very beginning. She was a strong woman who made the best of the hand she was dealt but had the determination to better her life. It's refreshing to read a story where the heroine isn't a weak woman waiting to be rescued.

Always fun to catch up with the rest of the Coleman family too. I have to say I was surprised at how much of an ass Jesse was but look forward to future books hopefully explaining more of Jesse's issues and perhaps he can have a HEA of his own. Travis is another one I'd love to read more about.

Vicki Hansol is just the woman Joel Coleman needs to finally step out of his twin brothers shadow and become his own man. The only real question is what will this happiness that he finds with Vicki cost his family in the long run. A hard place to be is always choosing between family and true love. This relationship tests so many bonds and the outcome is so bitter and sweet all at the same time. Very emotional and lots of heart pounding action in this one. Loved every exciting moment.

Looking forward to seeing how Jessie's story goes.

This was Joel's story. He met Vicki who had quite a bad reputation around town. Actually her whole family had one. Joel tried to help her one day and she thanked him and he told her if she ever needed something to call him. Well she was offered a job for summer, but she had to ride a horse. Thing was she was afraid of horses. So she thought who else but Joel could help her get over this fear. What follows next is a very tender and nice love story. A great read

The only thing I wanted more from this book would be a resolution for Vicki and her family. Also would have liked to see both Eric and Jesse to get their comeuppances. I hope there is follow up in one of the last two books. I just love this series overall.

Yum, definitively my most favorite out of the series so far. The first few fell kinda flat for me, but this one, loved it! How can you really go wrong with a hot cowboy teaching you how to ride in exchange for a relationship of convenience?

This series keeps getting better and better..We are back with the Coleman brothers and this time it is one of the twins Joel.
Now in previous books the twins Joel and Jesse have a reputation of sharing everything together even their woman and they love to play.
But in this book Joel is wanting to make changes in his life I think he is ready to embark on a relationship with a woman that he does not want to share with Jesse.
He is tired of the reputation he has because of the fun he used to have with his brother.
Vicki Hansol is in a similar predicament her reputation and her families reputation is not favoured in the town of Rocky Mountain House.
The town sees her as a whore because of her mother and a rumour about her that is a lie but can't be disclosed as a lie,and so Vicki just takes all the whispers and jibes by the towns folk.
I felt awful for Vicki she is such a sweet person and the whole town made assumptions about her just because of her mother's behaviour. Vicki and Joel make a deal together and hope the town sees them both in a different light. If they pretended to be dating eachother then maybe people would change their minds about them.
She would help him by being his girlfriend and he would help her by trying to help her get over her fear of horses so she can learn to ride.
I think they thought it would be easy but with the whole town is against their relatioship, they have many obstacles and attitudes to get over and change.
They persist and get to know one anothers secrets and are very good friends with added benefits.
The biggest shock comes when Vicki tells Joel 2 secrets that solidifies the rumours about her are untrue.
These two are very hot and heavy but also sweet at times as they get to know one another despite most of the town against them a their fake union.
Joel also helps Vicki have a sexual awakening and find they are so compatible in this area they can't seem to get enough of eachother.
They stick together support eachother and teach one another how to love.
Along with the main story about Vicki and Joel, there are also stories in the back ground playing out also..they all blend together to make great future stories etc.
Vivian Arend really knows how to tell a captivating story and series,I am loving these cowboys, their sassy ladies and the family that are always there for one another.
I am becoming addicted to these books and can't stop reading/listening to them oh the audiobooks are fantastic.
Tatiana Sokolov is totally amazing playing each character male and female, she switches her voice with ease and is absolutely perfect. You don't miss not having a male narrator one bit you don't even recognise there is no male narrator. She is excellent.
I am both reading and listening to these books and whichever way you choose to have these books in your life you will not be disappointed.
Loved this one and can't wait for the next one.

There was so much about Rocky Mountain Rebel I loved.
Most of all I love the Rebel Heroine Vicki. Here’s a young woman whom life dealt an incredibly shitty hand. Her mother and older sister are both sluts. Because of them most of the good people of Rocky Mountain House have painted her with the same reputation even though at 20 years old she’s still a virgin because she doesn’t want to be anything like them. She’s forced to leave high school early and support herself with minimum wage jobs to get away from a dangerous home environment. At every turn it seems life is grinding her down or kicking her in the teeth. Yet she never gives up. She continues to try and better her circumstances. She’s rough around the edges but she’s got a heart of gold. She has a fiery temper, she’s blunt but she also has a quick wit.
I liked our hero Joel Coleman, youngest of the six Coleman siblings of Six Pack Ranch. Joel and his identical twin brother Jesse have been regular characters in every book in the series. In this book, recently graduated from college Joel decides it’s time to grow up. He wants more out of life than going out on the weekend acting as his brother’s wingman and having meaningless hookups. He’s developed a deserved reputation as a player who is fond of having threesomes that include his twin, which he’d like to shed. He’s a good guy with a strong sense of right and wrong. He’s a devoted son and brother who puts up with far more from Jesse than he deserved to.
I don’t think the irony us lost on readers that poor Vicki is unfairly labeled a tramp because of her mother and sister while Joel and Jessie have spent the past several years being man-whores with a kinky side and nobody thinks less of them for it. Can you say double standard.
I enjoyed the fact that all the couples in the previous stories made appearances in this story. I liked how Vicki and Hope who share a common bond of coming from a crappy family’s form a special bond. Jesse continues his transition from irresponsible but lovable younger brother to immature jerk that began in the previous book. Even Jaxi the darling of the first book has her halo momentarily tarnished. Love Jaxi but it was nice to see an author make even her best characters human.
What I didn’t like about this book was its ending. I know the author wrote a novella based upon Vicki and Joel dealing with their long if temporary separation. I just would have preferred she’d ended it differently.

well … I feel like as this series grows, the more skewed the balance between plot and gratuitous sex/sexualization. like, Joel seems OBSESSED with Vicki’s boobs/breasts/chest and notices/thinks about them all the time, um, yeah, pass.

so, the “story” here is that Vicki’s trying to bust outta town, but she needs to go work around horses and she’s afraid of them. so, he’s going to teach her about horses, but they live in a small town, so they have to pretend to be boyfriend-girlfriend in order for him to do that … yeah … the plot gets thinner and thinner …

Vicki’s family has a bad reputation - mom and sister are apparently slutty - and by extension, Vicki is treated just as poorly.

really disappointed that Jaxi gets in on the whole hatin’ on Vicki’s family and letting that spill over into hating Vicki without even knowing her

I was much happier with the cameos from Daniel/Beth and Matt/Hope - especially Matt and Hope who are more welcoming of Vicki

small town politics is not for me - people can be overwhelming kind, but also really really mean. the latter makes it nearly impossible to just ignore and live, which is where Vicki gets to

once again, their charade lasts way too long. they don’t need to go getting married, but they ought to have given their relationship a real chance much earlier than they did
“going slow was the order of the day” and of this series!! except, it’s not *really* slow since they’re all having sex all over the place …

“People who appeared to be one way, while only wanting to take advantage of the trusting and the naive.”
“most people have a learning style that works best for them. some people read for information, some listen, some have to do it. The best teachers use all the methods.” “Start at the beginning and make sure the basics are there” “Each next step builds on the previous skills” “Celebrate your successes” “learning often works best when you do a little, celebrate, and then do it all over. Build in the information until it becomes instinctive. Or set a goal rewards” - cheesy, but I liked it, especially how Joel helps Vicki celebrate her successes (I just wish there wasn’t so much of that and more plot) (I know! for once! teehee)

E: Arend is one of those authors that she writes and I read it. I have been following the Six Pack Ranch extended family since the beginning. In fact they were my introduction to her writing. Joel has played a supporting role in several installments and each time I have caught glimpses that he wasn’t as satisfied with the wild life as his twin Jesse but he didn’t have a reason to change. Then one day, he felt the urge to protect a girl, one who was rumored to have a bad reputation along with the rest of her family and that was really the beginning of the end to more than his wild life.

One of the things I love about Arend’s writing is that she doesn’t shy away from making her characters work for their HEA not just with each other but with their respective families. Rocky Mountain Rebel is no exception. Joel and Vicki had to fight for their relationship and determine what they really thought was important. I also enjoyed seeing some people who had fought for their relationships earlier in the series have to take a step back and remember to judge by the individual not by the family.

MinnChica: I adore the Coleman brothers and cousins and extended family. They are the kind of family that you can get behind, they care they love one another, and they aren’t afraid to get right up in one another’s face. I just love that. I fell in love with these books from the first moment I cracked open Rocky Mountain Heat, and haven’t looked back yet. I was excited to read about Joel, because I was so hoping that he and his twin brother Jesse would really get the chance to spread their own wings and fly their separate ways. I love that Arend let them do just that, and that we got the chance to see Joel really take a chance with love. I adored him and Vicki together, and can’t wait for more!

E: Oh the Joel/Jesse separation was EPIC! I am glad that they separated because I felt that Joel was overshadowed and dragged into things by Jesse. I wanted to see his sweet personality that occasionally peeked out get a chance to shine. When he let it out my heart completely melted. I loved the way that Joel was so gentle and patient with Vicki as he coaxed her into trusting not just him but into achieving her goals. He had a very effective method of bribery and rewards that I think would inspire any woman to achieve miracles. He was also very determined to continue protecting and including Vickie in activities with his family.

MinnChica: I also thought that Jesse overshadowed Joel, and was so glad we got to see Joel come into his own. I loved the way that he treated Vicki. For someone who had to live through such horrible adversity as a young girl, Joel was there to pick up the pieces and help Vicki put herself together again, separate from the family that defined her most her life. And yes, he did have some very sexy ways of getting Vickie to overcome her fears. One of the things that I think Arend does so incredibly well is draw out the sexual tension, and then have her characters burn so hot they singe the reader’s hands. I love it. Every book, every hero and heroine, they are all sexy to the core!

E: fans self* Yes the tension is incredible and when she finally provides a temporary release of tension it is as worthy as the build-up. I felt so bad for Vicki who did so much to try to protect her family and all she received was abuse and ugly speculation from others. Watching her work for her future and never give up was very impressive. As a result she never took acceptance for granted so when Joel and his family started to open up to her it was wonderful seeing her respond. I loved seeing Vickie come into her own across a number of different areas. She became comfortable in her own body, comfortable interacting with others, and proved to herself that she was worthy and could achieve her dreams.

MinnChica: I adored Vicki, she might be one of my favorite heroines. Like E said, she did so much for her family, despite the things that people said about them and her. She loved them unconditionally, despite all the negativity. But I also loved seeing her get accepted into the Coleman family. They are just so wonderful and sweet and caring, so watching them all struggle with and finally accept Vicki for who she was inside, was wonderful to see. I have to say, I am extremely excited and anxious to see where Arend goes with Travis’ story. That man has intrigued me from the first moment he stepped onto the page, and I am so anxious to see where exactly his story unfolds to.

E: YES! Travis has been on my mind since the very beginning. The secrets he has been keeping, whatever caused him to keep those secrets and the sudden end to what appeared to be a relatively stable relationship. I also want to see Jesse get what is coming to him and an epic groveling scene. I am sure that Arend will deliver satisfactorily **no pressure on her** as I continue to love reading about the Six Pack Ranch and their extended family.

Once again Arend provided a great installment to this series. I think each book gets better and better. I loved Joel and Vicki’s interaction together and how they both grew and took things slowly.

I give Rocky Mountain Rebel an A

MinnChica: All in all I continue to fall more and more in love with this series as it progresses. I can’t wait to see what Travis’ deal is, and like E said, Jesse better have a damned good reason for acting like a huge d-bag. I loved Joel and was so glad we got the chance to really see him spread his wings. I thought Vicki was such a strong and fabulous heroine, and their romance was sexy and steamy and sweet and wonderful. Everything I could have hoped for!

Rocky Mountain Rebel is book 5 in the Six Pack Ranch series and follows Joel, one of the twins, on his quest to become his own person and find love for himself.

Joel and Jesse are the youngest of six boys, and they are twins. They have been tied together their entire lives, by choice, and appear to be interchangeable. However, Joel is ready to be his own man. He no longer has the need to be only seen as one of the twins. He wants to branch out on his own and find his own way. Including finding a woman who wants him for him and not because he comes with Jesse attached at the hip.

Vicki is one of three daughters in a dysfunctional family. Her mother is a single mom who hooks up with men to have a place to live. Her older sister is following in dear old mommy's footsteps. Then there is her other sister, who suffers from a social disorder. Vicki has always tried to protect her sister, Lynn, since she does not know proper social queues. But, sadly, it has cost Vicki her reputation and respect.

When Karen Coleman, Joel's cousin, approaches Vicki about working at the summer camp she runs as a cook, Vicki wants to, but the fact she will need to be near and on horses is a problem for her. She is scared to death of them. Enter Joel Coleman and an agreement to help each other.

Joel agrees to help Vicki overcome her fear of horses. Before he begins the lessons, he speaks with Beth, his sister in law who is a school teacher, to find out the best way to go about teaching someone something. Her advice is to make it relatable to the student. And off he goes to come up with "lesson plans".

The lesson/reward program that Joel has come up with is quite unique and entertaining to say the least. And it never fails they are interrupted by someone in the family at the most inopportune times.

Everyone in his family is confused and concerned with Joel's choice to date Vicki, but no one more than Jesse. As a matter of fact Jesse is angry with Joel. He feels like Vicki is more important than him in Joel's life. Jesse is not ready to grow up yet, and he does not understand Joel's need to become his own person.

When a tragic accident occurs at the Six Pack Ranch, it is Vicki who puts her fears aside in order to save one of Daniel's boys from a runaway horse. She is not thinking about her fear, she is only thinking that this little boy is going to get trampled. Once the horse is caught, all you see is Daniel one one horse and Joel on another. Both men coming for the two just in harm's way. You know the old adage, get up, brush yourself off and get back on the horse. And that is exactly what they are doing.

But what will happen with Joel and Vicki when their arrangement comes to an end and she goes off to the summer camp? And what will happen between Joel and Jesse? Will these two ever be okay again?

I love the Coleman's and wish I was part of their family. They are so open and accepting of everyone. They may have concerns, but they are willing to let their family make their own mistakes and they are there for them when they need it.

I love that Matt and Hope openly went camping with Joel and Vicki. No judgement. Just fun times for the two couples. They accepted her for who she is, not what others have said about her.

And Travis is a font of wisdom. The advice he and Ashley give Vicki and how open they are in their relationship, gives Vicki food for thought.

Although this started out as a fake relationship to improve Vicki's reputation and to show Rocky that Joel does not need Jesse to get a woman, what happens in the end is inevitable.

Tatiana Sokolov does another wonderful job of narrating this book. So many characters are in this book and make appearances. I do not know how she manages all of the different voices.

I really enjoyed this one! It was a great read and really pulled me in from beginning to end. I loved Vicki and Joel and watching them come together and really get to know the other one. Vicki has been dealing with her family's reputation her entire life, even if she is nothing like her mother and sister, people still treat her like she is. She wants to get away from that and do better for herself but has had a hard time. Joel is ready to start growing up and reach the next chapter in life. He has a reputation with his twin for sharing women but he has started to outgrow that and wants to get away from that reputation as he is wanting to date and have a girlfriend and isn't planning to share with his brother in that respect. Vicki gets an amazing job offer but it includes being around horses which leaves her terrified. After a recent interaction with Joel, Vicki decides to ask him to help her out and keep it a secret. They come up with a plan to help them both out and "date" each other with all the stuff happening until it's time for the job offer with Joel getting Vicki okay to be around horses. This story really pulled me in with the way that these two interacted with each other and built their friendship and relationship. They created a great foundation which worked to get his family seeing something different in Vicki but they had some obstacles to overcome. Jesse is not on board and does not like the changes that are happening around him and with Joel so it creates a lot of contention. I really enjoyed how Vicki and Joel dealt with this. It was great getting to see the other Coleman men and their relationships progress as well as an extra bonus if you have read the previous books. This story had some hot sections but also a lot of cute and adorable ones as well with Joel and Vicki figuring out the boyfriend/girlfriend thing and trying to show the town a different side to them both. This was a great read and I really enjoyed it.

Rocking the Hard Place

Vivian Arend Rocky Mountain House bk 05 Rocky Mountain Rebel

Vicki Hansol is between a rock and a hard place. Thankfully, sometimes that hard place is Joel Coleman and he really rocks her world. 😘💥 They have great chemistry and utilize plenty of creativity in their location choices to have some good times. I love how they rile each other up. 😂🔥

In all seriousness, I feel bad for Vicki as she's lumped in with her sister and mother and their loose and easy reputations. Nearly everyone gives their two cents before taking a moment to get to know her. I do like that most of the Coleman clan, even those with concerns, do things with her and Joel in an attempt to change their opinions.

The reaction of at least one person is beyond childish, but it'll be interesting to see how that plays out long-term. Despite that, I love how Joel sticks to their arrangement and keeps Vicki's secrets.

This ends with more of a HFN than the prior books. As all the books in the series involve numerous members of the Coleman clan, I'm confident this isn't the last we've seen of these two. 💙💜

I received an author's copy of the audio book to accompany my paperback. The narrator is Tatiana Sokolov. She continues to do well with this varied cast of characters.
