3 1/2 Stars - action-packed adventure set in a dystopian future - more suspense than a romance perhaps...

Something New Under the Sun is a 200-page novel that is an direct sequel to the novella, A Chip in His Shoulder. A great novella that I loved!!

Everything takes place in an dystopian future world in LA.
The vampire Liam and his human lover Daniel are when this begin prepared to do everything possible to crush and ruin Daniels unscrupulous father and his company Cybernetix. After Daniel's father's cruel plan and willingness to pay to have his son executed by a professional assassin (by Liam in the first book) is now no alternative but to face him with the same method. By showing up to others (the vampires in the privileged upper class) that false and deceitful business practices Cybernetix uses, hope the two guys find a new chance for them to survive.

I don't know if it was me, but this second installment didn't enthralled and engaged to me as much as the first part. Sometimes I think the problem for me is that when the characters are not longer entirely new and unfamiliar to me etc disappears a bit of my curiosity for the story. That intriguing mystery around the characters and what's going to happen is not really there anymore. These two guys were already back in each other's arms when this book began, and now it was more about survival, planning attacks, fire fighting, new cyber technologies, etc., than about two people who fall in love and want each other, etc. There is simply too little heart and pain in it. ~ I already know that they love each other. Should it become these two forever or not, is no longer a question. ~

Enough about my philosophizing and my shortcomings as a reader of a second part to a romance that had a HEA or at least a HFN. - How was the book?

It was a good and these two main characters are both charming and fun to meet. Between Liam and Daniel are both strong love, lust and a huge desire to care for and save each other in various dramatic situations. Although I lacked a bit of romance feeling was there of course both tender, steaming and some beautiful love scenes. Very well done and nicely written also.

...But, as you know, I wanted a little bit more. I wanted more about their love and relationship and a little less focus on high-tech future technology and heroic rescues from rooftops, close combat, chasing cops etc.
‘I couldn't convince myself it was just nerves or discomfort. There was something elegant about Liam on the hunt. Every movement - what few there were - was smooth and calculated.’

This is a really high-class suspense with good dialogue and tremendously fast pace. For those of you who like to read out of breath all the time, this is perfect. For me, who want some more kissing, snuggle and twinkling eyes... well not super.

I LIKE - a good fast-paced suspense story.

This sequel was very entertaining. I missed the conflict between Liam and Daniel for their shared past, but the action made up for it. While the previous book took place in a close space, this one takes us from the Gutter to the Sky and back.

I was happy to see Daniel put his life on the line for Liam . He has to sacrifice his ideals and to accept that sometimes the things you hate are the same things that can save you. Liam is a little less important in this installment, but he gets to confront his family. This book in a sense mirrors the first one: here Daniel has more depth.

The events of the story takes place in a very short span of time, so there is no real time for the characters to take informed decisions and balance them with the outcomes. I missed this a little bit, especially the issue if mods make a person more or less human. Also I think there wasn't enough about the vampire society, I was so curious about it, I almost felt that Liam being a vampire didn't have much impact.

There was one thing that I didn't like. Major spoiler:

I liked very much Gizmo, the tech guy who helps Liam and Daniel, with his mechanical arm and quick mind.

Bottom line: a very entertaining series with original elements.

First thing first ... since I read book #1 about 14 months ago, I totally didn't remember ANY of the details (and unfortunately my own review didn't help, damn it *lol*) from the previous story. Although I did notice that there was a change in main narrator -- this time, Daniel Harding, the heir to Cybernetix, who was also a member of the anti-mod movement, was talking the role in narrating the story.

For around 50k+ words, this story moved fast! It was quite a page-turner, and I didn't have any problem with the pacing. I thought the action sequences were great (running, shooting, blowing things off, hanging on a rope, bleeding ... and repeat the whole process). The chemistry and love between Liam and Daniel was well-maintained and I welcomed the additional plot regarding Daniel and what had happened in between the years he was separated from Liam.

Although, I had to admit that the whole sci-fi information element went straight over my head *grin*. If you asked me to explain, I wouldn't be able to tell you anything about the whole mods, UV mod, biomods, nanobots, etc, etc. Didn't matter, the action and characters made up for it. Even if the ending felt a little bit too easy -- I guess I wanted to read about this HUGE showdown between Daniel/Liam facing Daniel's dad. You know, kind of a Mexican standoff and stuffs.

I did, however, had a couple of niggles. One, the fact that Daniel . Second, I also had the same issue like a couple of other reviewers, about . Third,

But overall, I really enjoyed it and loving the story. It never dragged on for me -- which was always a good thing.

I really, really liked A Chip in His Shoulder but I loved Something New Under the Sun. This book is clever, the plot is perfect, there is pretty much wall-to-wall action, and when there isn't, something pertinent to the plot is happening. Great characters, great world building - I wanted a bit more to give that full edgy, gritty, dystopian feel last time, and L A Witt really delivered it here. These two books are so good they could easily be made into a movie. Full review at http://ontopdownunderbookreviews.com/...

Had to read this one, couldn't wait to follow up the first book and see what happens, and whether our two guys kick that piece of s**t of a father to the 'Gutter' where he belongs!! 4.5 stars

At the end of the last book, Liam and Daniel had come up with a sort of plan to take down Cybernetix. This involved stealing the UV 'mod' which helps vamps in sunlight so they don't turn all crispy at the edges!! They do manage to steal the chip, but not without a lot of problems...both are injured, and now Daniel's father knows that they are onto him.

Liam decides to have the UV chip implanted so that they can go back to Cybernetix and destroy the place.....problem, the chip needs a computer code to be activated and they don't know the code...the chip starts shutting Liam's life systems down even though he's practically a cyborg!! As much as Daniel is anti-modifications, he has already had some nanobots inserted so that any bleeding will be slowed down, and he now decides that if he is going to save Liam, drastic measures are called for. He has another 'mod' fitted which should help him to do all sorts of things he wouldn't otherwise be able to do...OK, Bruce Willis eat your heart out!! He desperately needs that computer code but surprise, surprise, Daddy wants the chip back, so Daniel eventually realises that he has no other option than to return the chip for the code; however, what he doesn't know is that Daddy has .

Yes, dear friends, we have a nail-biter of a situation, and to make matters worse, Daddy's private security firm have also shot Felix, and kidnapped Venus !! And that is as far as I'm taking you on this white-knuckle ride...to find out what happens, you'll have to get your own copy!!

I have to say in all honesty that these two books were great, and I say that as someone who finds LA Witt's books a bit hit and miss, so many thanks for the ride.

After the first book of this serie A Chip in His Shoulder by L.A. Witt I was dying to know how the story would end... So got this book immediately!
Did I like this one more, less or equally?
Hummmm hard to say.

This book is all Daniel point of view. He NEED to show the world his father is the worst possible criminal of that era. The story begin immediately where book one end, and... It's a NON STOP kind of story. No time to think, to rest, to NOTHING! One action after another, explosions, running, fighting for their lives.... Yes, "theirs" lives... Liam is not by his side, always.

I ADORED the action. When I think a page turner book I image exactly what I found in this book. I never had even time to digest a new, because something was happening. Info about their world or themselves will be give to the reader in the midle of shooting or situations of high risk. It's a perfect way to take the attention of the reader to the maximum level.

I advise you to take a deep breath before start it, because just after the last page you will relax again!

Great adventure
Great sci-fi (love all the new information about that horrible futuristic world)
Great secondary characters (looooooove them ALL!!!!)
Great choice of moments to slow down and show how much the main characters love each other, and miss their time separated

IMO it's PERFECT! And it's a 5 stars.
Just one little thing....

As usual, LW does fawesomely in painting a world clearly: I knew where each character was physically within each scene (sounds simple but sometimes this factor is put on the backburner by some writers), I could feel the heat, atmosphere and otherwise, could feel my own throat constricting against the dust and dank of the Gutter, could picture the falsely bright perfection of the Sky. Most of all, the bond between Daniel and Liam was inescapable, especially for them.

Both of them came from POV's of strength, one not letting the other get away with anything. Neither is overly feminized (not even close) nor so "manly" so that emotion is frozen out in a false sense of bravado. In fact, there wasn't anything false about either of these men. The story is presented through Daniel's eyes but we get a lot from Liam - this is where the enjoyable balance comes from. All of these are pluses in my book, if you'll allow me the semi-pun. ;)

Semi... uh huh... ok, I digress, a wee bit, but just saying: those of you who have the equipment for such a reaction may just succeed in finding yourselves in this condition. The sex scenes are well done, all different and naturally placed, except ;)

There is a higher level of techie talk in this than the short story that started it all, but it's fun and consistant in detail and is all important to the story. No throw-away technobabble here.

LW is good at giving suprises throughout her stories and this one is no exception to that rule. The story ends at a good point, some things are wrapped up and some aren't, but not in a frustrating way for those of you who like all things resolved at the end of a book. It does become obvious the parallel LW is drawing between this world and ours, but it doesn't make it any less true, hopeful, sometimes hesitant and frustratingly slow and constrictive, as well as idealistic. It's an honest mix.

I would definitely recommend this to anyone looking for an intense, action-filled (on both counts ;) ), humorous, non-stop ride with deliciously grounded heat between two daring, smart men who know what they want: each other, and to make their world a more fair place where, ya know, everyone can breathe, cuz, ya know, that's kinda important. ;)

Something New Under the Sun is the second book in the Falling Sky series by L.A. Witt and my 3rd attempt at reading Cyberpunk. Cyberpunk tends to focus on a dystopic society with high technology and lots problems. In my (admittedly limited) experience they also are chalked full of social commentary. The Falling Sky series is no different.

Some background: Liam is a vampire (which is a voluntary mod in this world) and was in love with Daniel, a human. Daniel is the oldest son of one of the most powerful men in the "Sky" and a leader in the anti-mod movement. The Sky is the nearly Utopic society of the rich and powerful where getting "mods" (cybernetic enhancements) show your wealth and power. Liam's powerful family has cast him out because of his love for Daniel and he has spent the last 5 years in the "Gutter", which is where everyone and everything that does not fit in the picture perfect "Sky" is cast. In the first book of the series, Liam is hired to kill Daniel by Daniel's powerful father. In this book, Liam and Daniel prepare to take down Daniel's father and everything he stands for.

Something New Under the Sun is a fast past sci-fi thriller with erotic romance undertones. Throw in a few of those great sensual scenes Ms. Witt is famous for and you have a well rounded story. Liam and Daniel are written to be believable as people and as a couple. By the end you are are rooting for them to get their Happily Ever After, even when it looks like they won't.

I would like to thank Riptide and NetGalley for providing me with the eARC of this title in exchange for my honest opinion.

I'm with Kazza K. I really liked the first one but this one ROCKED. Some of the tightest writing I've read in quite some time for a MM anchors this one. Love Liam and Daniel and they are just perfect together. They have that ambiance that makes you feel comfortable with them - they belong together. There is some humor as well - not enough to kill the kick ass suspense type mood but just here and there to ease the tension. The world is very well built and you get a great picture of it in your head. The action is practically non stop and I quite literally did not put this down at all - not even for a bathroom break! Very highly recommended!

Oh what a pleasant surprise when I picked up this sequel to 'A Chip in His Shoulder' and found that it switched to Daniel's point of view after getting Liam's in the first one. I started in with anticipation because I knew things were going to get 'off the hook' exciting and they did.

Daniel and Liam escaped with their lives in the first book after Daniel's dad set them up to get killed so he could suppress the truth. Harding was a real piece of work, but in this sequel he proves that his heart can be even blacker than I thought possible. Getting out alive was just the beginning. Now Daniel and Liam have to return, avoid capture or killing and bring down his dad if they want to save countless others from dying to promote his dad's greedy scheme and remain alive.

They plot out a coarse that will steal the mods needed as evidence against Harding's schemes and take them to the vampires. To offer irrefutable proof, Liam must take an uncertain mod that is supposed to allow the vamps to be able to be exposed to sunlight into his body to show it works and that it has been hidden to keep the research and development funds flowing in to Harding's coffers. Daniel is keeping a big secret from Liam that blows up in his face and might cost him everything. Things spiral out of control from there and both men find they must make sacrifices to even have a chance at success in the end and a chance of being together with no guarantees.

This was almost non-stop thriller action stuff that kept me on the edge of my seat much of the time. The author has a gift for blending the action with that something more that gave it depth and drew an emotional response from me. With deft handling the relationship between Liam and Daniel is not a distraction so much as a chance to reassure themselves of why they're taking the chances they do and to give hope when all feels hopeless. Good relationships do that- strengthen and fortify as well as reassure and comfort. It was a nice touch to see this happening.
I also thought the part where Daniel was confronted with his previous anti-mod ideology was interesting. He had to make a decision that was either against his set beliefs or something that showed him that he had to modify his beliefs when brought face to face with the reality of the argument. Liam was always telling him that its one thing to believe something while sitting up in your ivory tower, but down in the Gutter all that changes fast.

The only thing I would change in the stories if I could is that I would want more of an explanation about the vampires. There are a few lines in the story that hint that their existence is due to modifications to a human body, but I still felt like I needed more explanation. Not a big deal, but just something that remained a curiosity for me when it came to the worldbuilding of the two books.

In the end, it was an exciting read that I can recommend to a wide range of readers and not just those who enjoy futuristic or paranormal m/m romance, but to those particularly.

Thank you to Net Galley and Riptide Publishing for providing my review copy in exchange for an honest review.

You like action flicks, right?
*passes jumbo bucket of popcorn*
You are gonna love this then.

Somebody call Hollywood quick! It’s a crying shame this is not gracing the big screen. I felt like I was reading a script for a blockbuster.
I could visual each and every scene with pristine clarity.
It was action packed from start to finish, and it was fabulous.

It has all the highlights…thrilling suspense, undying romance, endless action, and some desperate hot sex tossed in too.
I enjoyed the first book in the series… ‘A Chip in his Shoulder’ was good. This continuation however, was great. Not a breath of space after the first, things resume with Daniel in the safety of Liam’s bed. Their reprieve is short lived; they literally have mere hours of temporary escape from their reality. Daniel and Liam are on a mission. The end-game will likely result in loss and the completion of the operation is risky at best. It truly is survival of the fittest (or craziest) and thank heavens lady luck happens to be on their side.

With nothing left to lose, they take Cybernetix head on. It’s a fierce game of chicken between father and son, and unfortunately the big ol’ nasty dad has a wild card up his sleeve. When Liam’s life is on the line, Daniel has no choice but to make some hard and irreversible decisions.

What would you sacrifice for your beloved?
Would you embrace everything you’ve fought against?
Would you give up your last breath for him to have one more?
Daniel finds himself answering all of these questions....and then some.

Challenges attack them from all directions, and in the end it only forges their bond stronger. They shed blood, sweat and tears….and I flippin’ loved every drop. Daniel’s voice was endearing and hysterical, I adored his POV. Out of his safe zone he is constantly at war with his own head. The twists and turns definitely threw me for a loop. It was intense. Frankly, I couldn’t get enough.

Gripping and thrilling cyberpunk with a heavy dose a romance, it was my kind of story. It is essential that you read the first story, and I would recommend you read them as a combo pack of two; the mix is much better than the solitary story of the first.
The writing is crisp and clean.
The world building is strong and unique.
The love between Liam and Daniel had me tripping-over-my-own-feet.
Ohhh, and I certainly can’t complain about the hotness factor- they are living every moment as if it could be their last, and it’s blinding.
I’m not sure if this is it, but if a third story happens to come into creation…sign me up!

I absolutely loved LA Witt’s A Chip In His Shoulder, it was my first and only 5 star book review on Reviews by Jessewave. So, I was overjoyed when I found out a sequel would be released this year, and LA Witt has not disappointed. As with the first book, Ms. Witt has created a unique world where the elite live in the “Sky,” and the down-trodden live in the “Gutter.” While both protagonists come from the Sky as privledged men of power, vampire Liam Lansing was thrown into the Gutter for falling in love with a mod-hating human, Daniel Harding. Liam did what he had to do to survive, including whoring himself out and finally becoming an assassin. The first book started with Liam taking a contract to kill his former lover, Daniel; but when he sees Daniel again, that plan changes. Now, in this installment, Liam and Daniel are back together and determined to fight the powerful men in the Sky to bring reform to their world, even if it costs them their lives.

As I stated in my review of A Chip In His Shoulder, I adored the world building in these novels. It’s a cross between Cyperpunk and a dystopian society where the have and have-nots are clearly defined. Add in some vampires, reunited lovers, an underground rebellion and you have the makings of a great book. Personally, I think this book would also make a great sci-fi movie too, as the action was like a roller coaster with so many unexpected turns and twists that I was hooked from the get-go.

The only reason I did not give this version 5 stars also was because I found the romance angle to be lacking. Basically, I read romance books for the romance. So, if readers are looking for a M/M romance book with sci-fi elements, then Something New Under the Sun might not be your cup of tea. While the romance between Liam and Daniel is there, it takes a back-seat to the sci-fi plot. But, for readers who like a little paranormal/fantasy twist in their M/M books and are not looking for overt romance, then this will be right up your alley. The action is non-stop – reminded me of the 1930′s serial movies that had jaw-dropping cliffhangers and you waited with baited breath for the next installment – and the writing top-notch.

So, if you love a good science fiction/fantasy novel with a tight plot, great characterizations and a sub-plot that has the main protagonists as gay lovers…then this is your book.

Recommended.

Something New Under the Sun by L.A. Witt led this reviewer on a journey of intrigue and convictions. Liam Lansing is a bio-modified vampire living in the Gutter, ex-assassin and trying to survive. Daniel Harding, the once heir to Cybernetix is also in the Gutter, and still attempting to live by the principles he holds near and dear to his heart. Liam and Daniel, betrayed by the very people who should love and support them, band together to stop Daniel’s father and his cyber-terrorism.

Ms. Witt writes a story based on love and devotion to a cause that is higher than the one, and for the betterment of mankind. Daniel has a price on his head, placed there by his father. His only way to survive is to expose his father’s unscrupulousness, with Liam’s assistance. The men forged a bond based on love and necessity. Ms. Witt demonstrates tenderness and devotion in her writing as the emotional connection between Liam and Daniel is exhibited throughout the story. Her subtle vulnerabilities tugged at my heart as I became vested in each of the characters and their emotional turmoil.

The secondary characters were well-scripted; Gizmo, Venus, and Felix enhanced the story and played off the relationship forged by Liam and Daniel. The action is hopping as well as the sex. Liam and Daniel are nothing short of bundles of sexual desire as they steamed up any flat surface.

Something New Under the Sun is expertly written, hitting all the elements in a M/M story; intrigue, mystery, romance and heated sex.

This is a very good sequel to Witt's A Chip in His Shoulder.

Daniel and Liam, having survived Daniel's father's attempt to kill both of them, find their love and sexual chemistry are the only aspects of themselves that have remained unchanged in the 5 years they were apart. Both men have had to sacrifice a great deal to survive those years, and it seems, they will have to sacrifice more if they are to succeed in bringing Daniel's father to justice.

I enjoyed this story, but as is often the case with novels from Riptide, it is much shorter than I would have liked. Some elements in the story seemed to be brushed over without really giving an explanation (such as how Harding Snr found Anna), while other explanations seemed incomplete.

Even though Daniel and Liam's story is basically completed with this sequel, I think this world Witt created deserves further exploration, and hopefully in a story that isn't so short.

I was totally enthralled by this book written by LA Witt. She has written a gritty, no holds barred tale that blends murder, kidnapping, corruption, high tech espionage and betrayal into a seamless mix that proves that with love, passion, courage and the willingness to sacrifice everything, anything is possible.

"Bio-modified vampires"? Betrayal of core beliefs? How could I possibly help myself...?

The book itself is good and its implications rather fascinating, but I don't know if I'm completely satisfied with the ending. Something about it seemed a little too easy, but hey, after all that upheaval, I suppose the characters deserve a little HEA/HFN...

Something New Under The Sun is the sequel to A Chip in His Shoulder (which I reviewed here) and it’s even better than that first book! I really like the world that Witt created in this series. In the first installment we first learned about the futuristic, paranormal world Liam and Daniel live in, which consists of two classes in society, the Sky (for the rich and privileged) and the Gutter (for the poor and unfortunate people). There are also vampires in this world and there are technological developments that we only know from futuristic movies, like bio-modifications that give people characteristics of a robot or superhuman.

In this world Daniel and Liam were reunited in the first story, where they turned from enemies to lovers. Now, in this sequel, they are not only solidly romantically involved but also team up to fight together against the mod manufacturers, of which Daniel’s father is the biggest manipulator of all. In an action-packed plot they work hard to reveal all the secrets and corruptions of this murderous businessman, who doesn’t recoil from hurting his own son or granddaughter.
Other than in the first story, in this second one a few interesting side characters are introduced, who give the main characters more depth. It’s nice to see the MCs interact with their friends and family. And it makes them more rounded characters. Especially Daniel’s character goes through significant motions and shows some interesting development. Also, a few of his secrets and sacrifices finally come to light. It’s not surprising that we learn more of him now, since it’s his POV we solely get in Something New Under The Sun.

The romantic arc is, like in the first book, of inferior importance again. The suspense and action are far more in the foreground, but somehow that did work quite well for me. It didn’t feel very unbalanced. Maybe it’s because the men already declared their love in the first book, plus there was still enough time for some hot erotic scenes in-between all the violent action. Liam and Daniel have great chemistry and Witt took great care in drawing them as realistically as possible in their rather unrealistic surroundings. Their adventures, sacrifices and pain feel all very intense and I had trouble remembering to breathe while I was reading. From beginning to ending this was a thrilling read that I couldn’t put down, because Witt didn’t let up for one second on the suspense.

My only, very minor, issue with the plot is the easy and slightly predictable ending. It felt a little bit abrupt and the reaction of Liam’s family borders on just a bit too convenient somehow. However, this ending felt much more solid and satisfying than that of the first installment. Like with that story, we don’t know for sure now if there will be more books in the series (although I don’t think so), but now I feel like another book isn’t necessary per se for me to enjoy the series/book as it is. That was different with the first book, which felt very much as a first title in a series and left me with a deep craving for more.
By the way, both books should be read in order; this second story definitely can’t function as a standalone.

Overall, Something New Under The Sun is a fantastic read if you like an action packed, suspenseful, intelligent and heart-felt story, which features super hot, testosterone filled guys that fight like superheroes against injustice and dishonesty. They are good men who are willing to sacrifice everything for their beliefs, and know how to handle a weapon while being geeky smart. A combination I certainly can’t resist, especially when it’s written by a talented writer as L.A. Witt!

Liam Lansing was cast out of the Sky to live in the Gutter by his prominent vampire family and turned himself to a lethal assassin. Daniel Harding was heir to Cybernetix until he turned cyber-terrorist against his own father. The two were lovers torn apart in the past but are now back together and determined to bring down the corporate giant that is out to kill them and those they love. Secrets will be revealed, honor questioned and a love that knows no bounds strengthened if Daniel and Liam have the courage and strength to not only fight the battle but dare to let go of the past.

Ms. Witt introduced us to Liam and Daniel and their world in her novella A Chip In His Shoulder, and now skillfully leads us even deeper into that world of intrigue and danger with this sequel. Told by Daniel we see the underbelly of the Gutter and hold our breaths as the two of them go up against odds that almost guarantee they won’t survive. So well does Daniel tell us his story that there were times my heart raced and I had to remind myself to blink.

After Daniel and Liam escaped Daniel’s father trap to kill them both, they know the only way they are to survive is to bring him down. Considering they have a price on their head and Mr. Harding controls most members of the council, this is not going to be an easy task. Daniel has a secret that when revealed will cause them to have to go into the belly of the beast, which will require both Liam’s skills and Daniel’s sheer will to succeed.

Liam loves the thrill of the chase, give him something to blow up, repel down or shoot at and he’s a happy camper. Daniel, on the other hand, is afraid of heights, has never shot anyone and is more comfortable behind a keyboard than arming an explosive. While Liam may rush in where angels fear to tread and Daniel goes in with eyes closed and teeth clenched (much to Liam’s amusement) they make the perfect team and will face whatever they have to in order to save each other and ones they care about. This is an action packed, roller coaster ride that tests Daniel to levels he could never imagined.

There are a number of plot twists in this book that I’m trying to avoid revealing but trust me when I say, you won’t see them coming. We meet Liam’s mod connection, Gizmo who can do just about anything with electronics and is hoot and Daniel’s fellow terrorist Venus becomes a key player as well. There is one other key character but I’m going to keep that one a secret, suffice it to say it’s a holy cow moment when revealed.

I loved this book, there were enough action packed sequences to satisfy the closet thrill seeker in me, and there were also enough little humorous interactions between Daniel, Liam, Gizmo and Venus to help bring the tension down as well. I just love the way Liam teases Daniel about his phobias and Daniel’s reactions are just priceless.

My only little niggle is I’m still a little confused about the origin of the vampire population, but it didn’t get in the way of me enjoying this book. My standard warnings apply: there is some violence and there are a few slightly explicit scenes between Liam and Daniel.

Lovers of a good old fashioned kick-butt action adventure with guns blazing, explosives exploding and car chases will love this. Lovers of a good old fashioned love story between two people, who are opposites yet are meant for each other, will love this. Lovers of sci-fi mixed with paranormal will love this. Aw heck, just about anyone should enjoy this book.

I’m going to try to contain my excitement for this book so bear with me.

SOMETHING NEW UNDER THE SUN is book two in the Falling Sky series and OMG, THIS BOOK IS SO FREAKING AMAZING!

Well, that lasted about two seconds.

But seriously though…I discovered L.A. Witt’s writing very recently. After having read her Christmas short called “Candy Caning” (great title!) in the Come All Ye Kinky Anthology, I knew I had found a new M/M author who captures the wit, the characters and their passion in a well-written story. Since then, I’ve been stalking her backlist trying to find more titles that would sweep me off my feet. So far, Witt has not let me down!

SOMETHING NEW UNDER THE SUN is an interesting mix of genres. You’ve got some sci-fi elements. There’s vampires. Obviously, you get your M/M romance in there and I would say it has the pacing of a well-written Urban Fantasy novel as well. The action is non-stop and ass-kicking, making for a thrill ride that you never want to stop!

In addition to the intense action, Witt delivers a unique world where the Gutter and Sky are two separate entities, yet are so close together. The standard of living is the major difference and when you read, you’ll see just how well Witt has developed this world.

Since this is book two in the series, I still believe you can read this as a standalone because Witt gives new readers a recap of past events. That’s always a plus for me. However, I do suggest reading the first book. You’ll want more even after book two! I know I do *hint for L.A.* ;P

Liam and Daniel are to die for! I fell in love with them so quickly and I think readers will enjoy their witty banter and their easy way of handling each other. However, that isn’t to say everything is always rosy between them. It’s the way their handle their differences that I think makes them more well-rounded, fleshed-out characters. I have certainly enjoyed their time together and am hoping for more adventures with them!

If you’re looking for a M/M romance with stellar characters, intense pulse-pounding action and witty dialogue, then L.A.Witt is your answer. She will deliver, satisfy your craving and have you begging for more!
MORE! I WANT MORE!!!

5*****Stars

The first part of this series, A Chip On His Shoulder was a stunning 5*****Star read for me. Ms. Witt gave us a world of the haves and the have nots. The Haves lived above the crumbling Gutter, with light from the sun, clean air and all the best in life. Science had brought them to Mods, modifications that when purchased could give them mortality, strength, replacement limbs and anything else money could by. But the price....

Scientific Corporations manufactured the Mods; production was in factories in The Gutter, where grey unseeing people worked shifts to produce what the rich needed. Their world was a smelly heap of garbage, where thieves, murder and fear lurked around every corner.

Liam Lansing and Daniel Harding began their lives living in Sky. Liam was a vampire. His parents were rich enough to buy mortality for their family. He had nanobots that could repair injuries even faster than a natural vampire. Daniel his lover was the son and heir of Richard Harding CEO of Cybernetics a firm that made all these enhancements.

Liam was tossed from his family and Sky and lived in the Gutter for five years, struggling to keep himself alive. He finally honed out an existence by becoming an assassin for the rich. It bought him a small apartment and gadgets from his tech team.Daniel was a quiet young man, and did not believe in his fathers business so he worked hard joining an underground movement to thwart the enhancements. He was not without secrets, but he worked diligently to over throw his father. In the first book Richard Harding hired an assassin Liam Lansing to kill his son. When the two young men finally came face to face after five years separation killing was not on Liam’s mind.

Together at last these two young men champion a cause to bring Daddy Harding down. As I mentioned, Daniel was not without secrets and that plot twist was a wonderful turn of events, making the story even more thrilling. The side characters were wonderful as well, and we meet Gizmo the teckky who can do anything. We meet Venus also who shares this story as well.

The story is good vs evil, rich vs poor, and when good wins and all the flags go up...So will they? Can this all be solved? Ms. Witt I bow to the wonderful story you have written, the wonderful world you have built and I again give you a second 5*****Star...Outstanding!

Rebel forces in a cyberpunk world fighting the good fight is a trope I adore. Ms. Witt's conclusion to her debut "A Chip in His Shoulder" with edgy publishing company Riptide is HAWT. Liam and Daniel return in this fast paced tale of betrayal, redemption and love lost.

Something New under the Sun breaks open the conspiracy against vampires. Daniel's father is a psychopath. Any person who uses children as collateral against their parents is an evil person in my book. Ms. Witt can create some chillingly evil characters. It's interesting since her lead characters are flawed and sometimes comes across as the villain. Yet once their motives are revealed, a reader can't help but fall in love with the anti-hero. Still, Ms. Witt ruthlessly creates the antagonist with despicable personalities. This seems to be a trademark in the books I've read of hers.

This plot is thrilling as well as maddening. The turns of events are something anticipated with dread. There are twists and turns the readers hope won't come to fruition. When it does, it's just as messy of a train wreck as expected. Sometimes, it is worse. In this world, there is very little kindness. It's fraught with oppression, corruption and murder. Yet amidst all this controlled destruction, there is still hope, love and sacrifice. This is demonstrated though Liam and Daniel's star-crossed love. They willingly sacrifice for a just cause. The cost is high and sometimes a bit too steep for their ideals.

Ms. Witt creates a fascinating world with just enough techno-geek devices and gadgets for a riveting cyberpunk piece. The strong feelings invoked through love lost counterbalance the emotionless machines. There's even a reconciliation which soothes old wounds. The heart of this story is redemption with the underdogs succeeding. It's a bittersweet conclusion which makes a reader hope for more. This m/m erotica is highly recommended to those who love angst and vengeance.

In a Nutshell: I shouldn’t have started with this second book in the series as I felt dropped into the middle of the plot and the romance and felt lost in both the entire book.

Why I Read this Book: I’ve enjoyed L.A. Witt’s books and love sci-fi so I thought this would be a good combo.

What I Liked: I like sci-fi and this book offered that in the world building. Some people have mods or small nano-bots that regulate the body and heal. Then there are humans who want to stay humans and not have mods. I’ve always enjoyed stories that balance these components.

The plot reads quickly as Daniel and Liam complete missions in their quest for vengeance and justice against Daniel’s father. The men being in constant danger offers a few opportunities for sexual release but no emotional development until the final few pages of the story.

What I Didn’t Like: I shouldn’t have read this book without reading book one. I felt dropped into the both the plot of the evil corporation and the romance between Liam and Daniel. I don’t have a real clue how Liam and Daniel got together other than Liam was hired to kill Daniel and didn’t. The romance showed no progression in this book and that’s why I read romance. Likewise, the world building was a bit of an info dump for me since I hadn’t read the set-up from book one. The vampire element was hinted at but totally underdeveloped in my opinion and that disappointed me.

IMO: Maybe readers who read book one will enjoy this but as a new reader I didn’t.

1.5 stars. I have to begin by saying I did not read the first book, so I'm admittedly a bit lost on the world building with this one. I've jumped into series's before midstream and the good books drop enough back story to give you a good feel and the current plot and characters keep you involved and wanting to read the previous books. Not in this case. This book was dull with the emotional impact of an amoeba. This is the second book by L.A. Witt published by Riptide that has bored me to tears which confuses the heck out of me because I like this author and her books through other publishers are great.

Moving on though, Liam and Daniel are back. Daniel's survived his dad's assassination attempt and Daniel and Liam make plans to bring Liam down. The plans bring them in contact with Daniel's rebel friends, Liam's mod doctor, and Daniel's daughter used as a pawn by Daniel's father. Daniel and Liam talk and talk then talk some more. This constant jabbering added little to story and I skipped as much of it as I could.

The story itself was flat. There are several traumatic, devastating instances where Daniel's feelings are barely touched, including the reversal of his morals as he agrees to get pumped to the gills with mods. Even the intimate scenes between Daniel and Liam left me uninspired.

Not a series I'll spend another thought to. But a good reminder I need to check who the publisher is before picking up another book.

Conclusion of this new take on vampires. LA Witt created a harsh fantasy world in this short story. Lots of action. She knows how to write.

Twenty-four hours. Lucky him. It had been less than that since I’d been waiting to die in my penthouse. Surviving? That had been unexpected. Waking up naked in a cramped Gutter apartment next to my ex-lover assassin? Yeah. That came out of the fucking blue.

How terrible to realize your father has more in common with the devil than with humanity in any form

No. No, not yet. This was an emergency backup that would ruin my father’s reputation, but might not land his ass in prison where it belonged. A card to be played when all other options were exhausted. This would only damage him. I wanted him destroyed.

Hmmm, I'm kinda all over the place with this one. On one hand, this was totally unbelievable. There is so much action and story thrown into a weeks time for both Daniel and Liam, it is OTT. On the other hand, I liked the back story and really want to get more from it. How the society works, how did it start, why the mods came to be, where did they go from here... For me, there were a lot of unanswered questions. I like a quick moving story, but this one moves too fast.

In spite of all of that, I really liked Daniel and Liam. I would have loved to explore more about them and their relationship.

This series should be made into a movie! Action, suspense, drama and romance! Well developed world, characters and cool sci-fi tech. We see the story from Daniel's point of view this time and I enjoyed his voice. Loved it!

ETA: I've been thinking about this book a lot. I wish I was eloquent enough to write the review it deserves. I would compare it to the movies Elyssium and Demolition Man, as on the surface they are quite similar, but I think this has enough different points to make it unique.

This is an interesting and unique sci-fi paranormal story with M/M relations. The book has some intriguing elements that can captivate your attention, at least to this reader it did.
The book was fast paced, that I found an enjoyable book to read.
This book may be a part of series but could be read as a single (something I like).
