Coursodon Dimension #2

Special Rewards

Rate this book
What would you do if you discovered there was a parallel dimension?

Hailey Parrish used to be an average, everyday human. Boring, in fact. After being possessed by Sebastian Kess, a magically inclined enforcer from the parallel dimension Coursodon, her life took a decidedly less mundane turn. Besides coming to grips with the existence of supernatural beings, she risked her life helping Sebastian and her heart falling for his protégé, Alex Sunderland. Now, Hailey has to deal with the bit of arcane power that Sebastian left behind when he returned to his own body and try to stay out of the crossfire when an unknown assailant seeks revenge against Alex.

Scientist by day, paranormal romance-urban fantasy author by night, M.L. Ryan has many stories rolling around in her head, and she finally decided to write some of them. She prefers literature that isn't saddled with excruciating symbolism, ponderous dialogue or worldly implications. She also doesn't like plots so reliant on love at first sight that it makes her feel like her head might implode. She lives in Tucson, Arizona with her husband and teenage son, four cats, two Curly Coated Retrievers and an adopted desert tortoise.

Book two of the Coursodon Series by M. L. Ryan, “Special Rewards” is filled with a little romance, some fantasy and lots of mayhem! The once ordinary Hailey Parrish deals with her life now that the flamboyant Sebastian Kess, an enforcer from the parallel dimension Coursodon, has left her body, leaving behind some of his magical abilities. Hailey has also managed to fall in love with Alex Sunderland, Sebastian’s protégé, who is the target of an unknown assailant, oh and a royal Prince, too! Of course, a trip to Coursodon is in the cards for everyone, forcing Hailey to adapt to a new world, a new love and new powers. As Hailey learns to control her new abilities, she finds she is less than adept in the “Hocus Pocus” department, subject to temper tantrums that cause her powers to go haywire at the most inopportune times! Somehow she often manages to save the day when needed, all while providing lots of humor along the way! Still, there are questions…Is Alex the real target or is it someone else? Which world are they from? Is there a plan involving the harming of humans?
I found “Special Rewards” to be funny, creatively brilliant and a great read! M. L. Ryan has crafted a unique world filled with a variety of characters, all full of their own special flare, personality and life! Her ideas for Hailey’s manifesting abilities are cleverly done, while the plot flows swiftly to its end, leaving room for me to eagerly anticipate the next book!

Special Rewards follows directly on the heels of book one, Special Offers…which was one of the most unique paranormal romances I read last year.

I really liked Hailey, our heroine, in book one because she was practical and smart. She knew her limitations but was eager to help the rico sauve, Sebastian, find his way back to his own body instead of hanging him out to dry which would have meant certain death. She is just a lovable character. Well wrote and well rounded. Her quirks, especially where her mother is concerned made her very human and believable. While the heat level in this book (as well as book one) is very tame I find myself just enjoying it because the story is one that doesn’t need the heat to keep me reading. Alex is a good hero but I didn’t love him so much this time around. Maybe it was because he was constantly leaving Hailey thus letting the bad guys get to her again and again…maybe it was his less then honest admission of his position in his dimension, whatever it was just rubbed me the wrong way. He was attentive and heartfelt when it counted so it kinda evened it out some.

In Special Rewards readers get to travel to Alex’s Coursodon dimension in order to help out Sebastian after he is put on trial for inhabiting Hailey’s body for quite some time in Special Offers. I really enjoyed finally getting a look at this place Alex is from but the names in the book were ridiculous. I mean names like Stylexincax, Rexanatyxa and Wyxinorolyxazam? No I didn’t just have a stroke and die on my keyboard, those are actual names from the book. No. I already have a huge pet peeve when I can’t stick with a pronunciation, but this hit every annoyance nerve I have. I resorted to skipping over the names because I didn’t want to stop and try to figure them out 50 times a page. There’s also a section where the author stridently talks about how Lance Armstrong didn’t do performance enhancing drugs and instead won all his titles by being half Coursodonian….which is funny in light of his admission to using drugs. That will definitely date a novel for future readers.

When Sebastian left Hailey’s body at the end of book one, he left behind some of his magical abilities. That coupled with Hailey’s own essence has afforded her the chance to grow her magic. These powers allow her to be able to stand more on her own and not rely on the guys as much…which was a good thing since Alex was constantly leaving her wide open to attacks. There are many levels of magical abilities in these books which added to the depth of the story line

I will continue to read these series because of Ryan’s unique approach to world and character building. If I secretly hope for a bit more heat in the next book, well, so be it.

I give Special Rewards by M.L. Ryan 3.75 stars!

I approached this book with caution. I adored Special Offers and didn’t want my balloon to be burst by setting my expectations too high.

My balloon is intact and flying high! I had just as much fun with Special Rewards as I did with the first book.

Now that Sebastian is out of Hailey’s body and back in his own. Hailey and Alex are heating up their romance.

But just because she’s rid of Sebastian doesn’t mean he’s not still too close. He’s staying with her and Alex, training her to control her new power.

When Sebastian was expelled from Haileys body, he left a little bit of his Courso power inside her. Now she has to get it under control quickly. Otherwise, anything and anybody could become a pile of ash or blown to smithereens when she loses her temper.

On top of that, the animals of the desert are drawn to Hailey, hanging out beyond her walled property. On any given day there can be tarantulas, hawks, deer, coyotes and many other creatures and they show no interest in each other. They just calmly stand and watch and eventually drift back into the desert.

When someone sets a tree on fire outside their rented ranch, Alex and Hailey are determined to get to the bottom of who did it. Could it be Alex’s mother? She did summon him to visit her by throwing a talisman through their window. Or is it someone else? Do they have an enemy? And who were they after, her or Alex?

And that’s just the beginning.

I’m happy to tell you, this is every bit as good as the first book!

I like that Alex and Hailey are fogging up my Kindle with their steamy romance. Now that they’ve put humpty-dumpty back together again they are busy getting to know each other a whole lot better.

And Sebastian is his usual smug and charming self.

There’s a whole lot of action and we get to go to Coursodon! It’s similar to our dimension in some ways, but quite different in others.

Hailey discovers Alex’s roots and gets quite a surprise. And Sebastian gets in a heap of trouble that requires her help.

With so much to entertain, I flew through this book. I hope the author is a fast writer because I really want more soon.

Special Rewards
M. L. Ryan

Sometimes you life takes on a different flare when you least expect it. Humans think they are infallible, invisible and would definitely never think that are capable of doing magical things. But, Hailey Parrish is human and part something else. After having to share her body with someone else, deal with him reading her every thought and then controlling her movements when it suited him, poor Hailey never thought she would be just Hailey again. Sebastian Kess inhabited her body due to a freak accident. His essence had been, believe it or not hiding in an eBook reader that she purchased from Amazon. Releasing him herself she was stuck with sharing her body with this arrogant, pompous yet really hot guy from another dimension. This guy and others that she would meet and even fall in love with are Coursodon. Sebastian was not exactly thrilled with the arrangement yet used it to his advantage. You see, he is a Xyzok and his real job or vocation is to protect humans from guess what Courso that use their magic for evil or criminal reasons. So, Sebastian was forced to allow his essence or spirit to leave his body and die, or try or attempt an experiment that was never done before. End result he was able to as the author relates “transmit himself into binary code and into his laptop.” The rest of the experiment I won’t share with you incase anyone that should not know the end result or might want to do this is reading my review. Hailey and her boyfriend Alex as well as Sebastian would prefer that certain things remain secret until the reader learns it for themselves. But, that’s where our story continues as Hailey learns something startling about herself as a result. Imagine no longer being all human and now being part you might say magical. Imagine having to relearn certain things over again. One thing for sure the training was tough, the hours long and Hailey went through her paces at the hand of Sebastian with vigor, anger and hopefully controlling her violent outbursts. Constantly causing major destruction, getting angry at the flick of a match, Hailey’s task was to control her temper, deal with difficult situations, confrontations and hopefully not explode. Why is this happening? Simple enough! Sometimes experiments leave residual effects and this one left Hailey with a tad or you might say touch of magic that was transferred from Sebastian to her and now she had to learn to deal with it and much more. From the author of Special Favors comes the sequel to find out what is next for Hailey, Alex, Sebastian and the Coursodons: Special Rewards wait until you find out what they are and much more.

Hailey is a pro at demolition. She is getting great at trying to hand at magic but controlling it and using it properly would take time. If you want to really know as Hailey describes the accomplishments of young Couso kids you being to wonder how we managed without their skills.

Lacking in what she refers to as the Hocus Pocus department her job was to train and learn how to use the powers she had but under Sebastian’s tutelage. But, things never seem to go smoothly for Hailey as she began to see visions of strange animals, figures and hopefully learn how to control her anger when speaking with the one person that pulled her strings real tight: Her mother!

The author brings back her best friend Rachel was promoted when Hailey left the chinchilla dairy. Meeting Sebastian and having dinner with Rachel too proved exciting, calming until something happens. After dealing with an assassin she and the others could not be too careful so when a group gets out of a Mercedes and surrounds them they never figure it was a royal delegation from Alex’s home coming to give Hailey something special. Coming face to face with his mother, the Queen was awesome you might say and yet quite unsettling in some respects. Meeting his family and several others, learning that they have their every thought and need taken care of, she soon learns to adjust to a different way of life. Predators trying to harm her, going after Alex, a fire that is set when he is away, just who is after him and why? But, there is much more to learn about Hailey as it is revealed by not only Hailey but by the author that she is able to transform into other shapes or shall I say birds.

Realizing that he could adequately protect her, he allows he acquiesces to his mother’s suggestion that they stay in her kingdom and be taken care of by the Royal Guard. Meeting Alex’s sister, Tannis was truly enlightening and she turns out to be a great friend and ally for Hailey. Next we meet his parents who accept her with open arms after saving his life. But, when the King is in danger and Hailey comes to the rescue by changing into another form what happens is right out of a great science fiction movie but even better as she and the King take down the would be killer. Just who are behind these attempts remains to be seen but if Hailey has anything to say or do with it no one will succeed. She has learned to use her newfound magic quite well and better than most Yterixa. Meeting Alex’s brother the crown Prince, seeing how so much brown nose him as we would say and hoping to find out who tried to kill her and the King and why. But some mysteries remain unsolved as the man who was responsible was caught; his identity known but killed himself before being fully interrogated. Putting them on full alert they would now have to make sure that everyone was safe. So, how did this man manage to get in and what would be the fate of the head of the Royal Guard? But, when they return home what they encounter will definitely bring two worlds closer together and the scene well you have to read Chapter 26 to get the whole picture and better yet just picture it.

Alex leaves her for a while an old friend comes by and then what happens next reveals that she was the prime target not Alex. Just why and who well you won’t believe it and the reasons you need to find out for yourself. Sometimes mixed relationships cause problems, as do mixed races. As Hailey tries to use her powers for form bend, the assailant finds a way to block her Yteriza abilities. Why well some people want all the power for themselves and others see humans as intrusions but there is much more that I will not reveal. An ending that lets the reader know there is more to come for Alex, Hailey, Sebastian and Rachel and the rest of the Courso’s before all is finally said and done. Special Rewards: Magical powers, transforming and more and other surprises. Wait until Book Three. Characters that are intelligent, humorous, clever and definitely uniquely crafted this is one novel that will keep you wondering just what would you do if you had your own Special Rewards.

I will read the next one because the overall story is good but at the same time I would probably be satisfied with a summary of the story. Sebastian makes the story, the main character on her own is so BORING. Strong beginning where it leaves off from the last book, then it gets boring and then exciting again. The story only really gets started at the halfway point with new revelations, however the author could make this chick fart fireworks and she’d still be dull. The other thing that’s getting a little tedious is the long names and the pointless big words that whilst trying to make the story more sophisticated, instead ruin the pace. But the overall story itself is a good one so give it a go.

Cliffhanger

This book ended on a cliffhanger, but it was still an okay book. It seemed like it was more for a filler, than any key plot points.

Second in the series. Did not disappoint. More wonderful characters and a plot not centered on romance. Glorious women characters that were not defined or held back by their male counterparts.

Hailey Parrish used to be a normal woman - but that was before she was possessed by a man called Sebastian from a magical parallel world called Coursodon. After Sebastian's essence was transferred back into his own body, he left some of his magic in Hailey and now she tries to find out what her new powers can do. Sebastian and her new boyfriend Alexander Sunderland try to keep a close eye on her and when suddenly some targets Alex, Hailey is right in the middle of the action..

The second book was not as funny as the first book, but it was still very entertaining and the story continues with the love story of Hailey and Alex and more information about Coursodon and some background about Alex and his family. Four stars and I still can't get enough of the series and have already downloaded the third book. I love Hailey and Alex but it takes some time to get used to Sebastian.

One of the hard things about a series, is the high bar an author can set with one book, making the reader instantly want to compare the following book while reading it. While Special Rewards had many of the elements I liked from book 1, Special Offers, I do feel as if this book wasn't quite as strong as the first. Not to say I didn't enjoy it. I very much did and look forward to seeing where things go from here. I am just of the opinion that the first book was better, though I'm sure others may disagree.

In Special Rewards we pick up where the first book leaves off. Hailey and Alex have moved in together and their relationship is strong and solid. Hailey is still dealing with the aftermath of having her body inhabited by a being from the Coursodon dimension and the powers he left behind when being extracted. Her emotions cause her to blow things up, and Sebastian and Alex are working to help her get a handle on her new gifts. At first, things are so peachy I started to wonder if something bad would happen....Hailey is visited by officials from Coursodon and offered a large cash reward for her part in saving Sebastian and taking down the bad guy, and things are just really looking up for her.

Of course, the fun begins when Sebastian is called back to Coursodon to stand trial for the danger he caused by inhabiting Hailey's body. Aside from that it seems as if someone is out to get Alex, or Hailey, or maybe even both of them. And so the three embark on a journey to Coursodon, where Hailey realizes her powers have evolved to include shape shifting, and a murder plot is uncovered. Through it all Hailey wrestles with the true depth of Alex's feelings for her and tries to adapt to all of the changes happening around her at a frightening pace.

I'll start with the things I liked. In book one we are told about Coursodon, but now we got to go there and I really liked it. I appreciated that the parallel dimension was realistic, much like our world, but with a few fun twists. I liked the atmosphere and most of the characters introduced, including Alex's parents and sister. I also liked watching Hailey grow in both her confidence and power, as well as her journey to learing how to be a shape shifter. I also thought her animal form was very cool and unique. Usually these books feature something typical like a werewolf. That Hailey became a bird of prey was an interesting plot point and I appreciated its uniqueness. The passion and heat between Alex and Hailey was nice too and I liked seeing them together in that way...especially once Hailey learns that being in Coursodon increases Alex's sexual prowess (oh yeah!).

I did have a few things I could have done without and these are things I think hinder the story from excelling beyond the first. For one thing, the pace of the beginning is slow. It takes a while for things to get going and I found myself bored a bit in the beginning waiting for things to happen. One thing I'll say about the author is that she's clearly smart. Her writing is very intelligent and articulate. However, there are parts of this book where it comes across as too smart to the point where I felt as if the author was pulling me aside for a lecture. I don't mind descriptions of things that pertain to the story or plot, but when it starts to feel as if the author is pausing the story to give me a lesson in something, I begin to question the relevance. I also felt as if the humor changed from book to book. In book 1 Hailey's first person voice was humorous and witty. In this book she was downright snarky and by the end of the book snarky became snide and I found myself annoyed with her. I especially tired of her constantly slamming Sebastian for no reason. Most of the time it was unjustified and made her come off as a...well, you know. I'd have thought she'd be a bit more appreciative considering his efforts to help her control her powers, as well as his generous act at the end of the book (which Hailey still finds a reason to complain and wrinkle her nose at). I'm sure it was meant to come across as funny and as if this is the nature of their relationship, but it didn't read that way to me. It read as if Hailey was being a b----, and I hated feeling that way because I really like Hailey. I was really hoping that Alex would jump in and defend the man that practically raised him and trained him, but he pretty much just nods his head and smiles at Hailey and let's her say whatever she wants.

Aside from those things, this was still an enjoyable read and I still feel as if this series is unique, interesting, and worth following. I just liked book 1 more. I look forward to reading book 3 when it comes out and I hope to be able to say it surpassed both books 1 and 2. The potential is definitely there and M.L. Ryan has already proven her talents as an author.

4.6/5

I love how the progression of the characters and their relationships is handled throughout the progression of this series. The romance is adult and awesome without moving too fast. It is very realistic. Well... if you don't count the alternate dimensions and the powers. (:

I still adore Hailey and I have so many quirky, snarky, and inappropriate quotes highlighted in this book as well as in the previous one. She is just so fun and realistic. She deals with her unease and embarrassment the same way I do- by cracking jokes. I guess that is why I love her so dang much. Oh, and I also have a cussing problem. I am not a cat person, though. I am team dog all the way... but that's off topic. Ooh, and I loved getting more information on Alex in this book. I feel a great deal more connection with him in this book and I am so happy. He is sweet and protective, but has his ass-hat moments (I am glad, too. If not, he would have been too awesome) Hehe. I love him joking and the way he fits with Hailey's dorky personality and makes lame jokes along with her. He was awesome! And hot... (:

Sebastard (I adore her mean nickname for him) is just as awesome in this book as the last one. I am not sure if I prefer him in Hailey's head constantly nagging her or if I like him in real form with his sexy smirk. He is such a proper, uppity, neat freak. But he is also a pervert. A hilarious combination, if you ask me.

The alternate dimension was awesome! I am not going to even try to pronounce all the crazy names of people and places. I got to meet a lot more characters and got to see strange and.. um.. different sides of characters I already knew. ;)

I love the main theme in this book and enjoyed the suspense and intrigue in the second novel far more than in book one. I loved everything about this book.

The villain was crazy, but nothing too major. I felt like I could have used a little bit more. I dunno.. villainy? Is that a word. The act of villain..ing? haha. Nevermind. Why can't villain be a verb. To villian: to wreak and or cause havoc or harm to the protagonists in an awesome book. Bam. Webster that mother.

ANYWAYS, The characters, the villain, the suspense were all entertaining and well done. I am eager to read book three. It sounds like it is going to blow the first two out of the water. I hope I am not getting my hopes up too high. If nothing else, I know I will love my characters! :D

Loved it.

Special Rewards by ML Ryan
Book Two of the Coursodon Dimension Series
Warning: There might be spoilers for Book One within this review.
Hailey Parrish was normal once upon a time; that was before her body played host for a man’s spirit from another dimension. After that experience, and discovering that magic was alive and well, Hailey was a bit less normal. Then, she discovered that Sebastian, the very powerful magical being who had inhabited her body, left her with some sort of magical power as a result of his spiritual habitation.
On top of having magic, she and Alex are going to have to travel to Courso to defend Sebastian’s actions. Making the experience even more fun will be discovering information about Alex’s family, and adjusting to the decided lack of modern technology and magic as its all-around substitute.
Then there is possibly the most exciting development of all: Hailey’s magic isn’t exactly stable. When she gets upset, things have a tendency to get rather explosive. Hailey is nervous enough about meeting Alex’s family. He won’t talk about anyone other than his sister, so Hailey’s already terrified. Add to that her tendency to blow up things that annoy her, and this could be an even greater adventure than having a man’s spirit living inside her.
Once again, M.L. Ryan managed to create a story that is both entertaining and captivating. Special Rewards isn’t just about the magic, the family, or the potential for Hailey to humiliate herself. Ryan has included a few mysteries within the story.
Also, as the reader will notice in this second book of the Coursodan, the personalities of the three primary characters begin to blossom even more. They become multi-dimensional beings. The reader might even begin to think about them when not reading, as if they are real people. Ryan creates complete character constructs. The main characters are so real, their personalities so vivid, readers learn to expect certain actions from them; it becomes these characters’ natures to act in certain ways because Ryan has created such realistic characters.
The world of Courso is also introduced in this book of the series, so we get to experience the author’s exceptional world-building skills. The world of Courso is well-designed and it is obvious this is only an introduction to this world; readers will get to learn more about rules, regulations, and terrain in the future.
I continue to be captivated by this series. Another 4 out of 5 sparkling stars!

After reading the first book in this series and being very pleasantly surprised I was happy to take on the second book in this series as a review for the author M.L. Ryan. Not only is the author incredibly nice and willing to work with my review schedule, she can write a good story too! Nice with brains! Great combo!

When I started this book, I had totally forgotten how funny ML Ryan is, and I was quickly reminded as I was chuckling within the first few pages. Sarcasm is my favorite humor and there was plenty in this book. Hailey is one of those characters that have an uncanny knack for always finding some sort of trouble; she keeps the reader on their toes wondering what could possibly go wrong next. Hailey and her antics keep you entertained throughout the book. You can always count on her to provide you with a laugh or a wince as she gets into some sort of trouble.

The supporting cast in this series also has their own entertainment value. Sebastian or as Hailey calls him “Sabastard” is also good for a laugh, he is such an a$$, but admittedly a likeable one. He just has that way about him! Alex is a steady influence on the characters he’s kind of the rock of the group, somewhat unflappable. But don’t take Alex as a push over, he is definitely an alpha male at heart and is willing to risk his own life for Hailey’s and in this book, he has to do so several times. Hailey’s best friend while doesn’t make as many appearances in this book her presence often packs a humorous punch. One scene in particular that really comes to mind. I still laugh when I think of it!

Although, I wouldn’t call this book “action packed” it does have several moments of action and a few surprises up its sleeve. There are plenty of laughs to go around; which keep you entertained. While this is not always the most exciting, it is not a boring read. I found myself quite entertained and engaged in the story from beginning to end. What I also love about this series, is although this is an indie publishing it is well edited and intelligent. It is obvious this author has a vast vocabulary and/or knows how to use a thesaurus, which is totally welcome when reading!

I thoroughly enjoyed Special Offers (The Coursodon Dimension) and was excited when Special Rewards came out. But I held my breath a little - could Ms. Ryan keep me as entertained and captivated? Ms. Ryan aced it! All my favorite characters - Hailey, Alex and Sebastian returned - stronger and larger than before. The characters were interesting, the situations they found themselves in were action packed, and the Coursodon world is now on my list of places to visit. The storyline picks up from where the first book left off - it was like I never had months inbetween. I fell right back into the characters and their adventures. I enjoyed all the new "effects" from Hailey hosting Sebastian's soul, and was glad to see no matter which world she is in - she's able to experience the benefits. She actually had me laughing out loud a few times, and I chuckled throughout the book. This is a book that once you start - you don't want to put down. Each time I laid the kindle down - I worried the three of them would get into some trouble while I wasn't reading. The dialogue is fabulous and Hailey gets to say things I wish I could get by with.

So often series loose something after the first book and the author struggles to bring you back into the story. Not the case here at all. Ms. Ryan's wit, skill and talent as an author shines through. The ONLY time I was disappointed with the story was after the last sentence ended. I want MORE. Much much more. I want more of the outrageous Hailey and delicious Alex. I definitely want more of Sebastian/Sebastard's story and back story. I even want more of the mothers. Okay, not a whole lot more but more - makes me not feel so alone with my mom guilt.

Ms. Ryan, I sincerely hope you are hard at work on book 3 - after an appropriate time of enjoyment at publishing this wonderful book. You are one of my must read authors, and encourage anyone who loves a little romance, spice, fantasy and mayhem mixed with lots of fun to read this series. No one will be disappointed.

Book two was an interesting addition. Hailey has powers thanks to Sebastian sharing her body and has a tendency to blow things up when angry. So the book starts with Sebastian teaching her to control her newfound power. At first glance, he's the worst teacher, because he constantly pisses her off. But the point is to teach her how to suppress her powers when angered. Slowly but surely she gets the hang of it.
But there are other complications. Alex is summoned by his mother, though he ignores this. Strange occurrences start happening the first time he leaves her. A tree in her yard is mysteriously set on fire. Then, upon his return, Sebastian is arrested on charges of endangering a human. So now they have to venture into Courso for the trial. While there, a snake is smuggled into their hotel room and they're shot at, forcing Hailey to reveal another ability no one expected and that's rare among Courso kind. From here they are taken to the royal palace, as upon their arrival in the realm, it's revealed that Alex is a prince. Alex and sebastian try to make sense of who is targeting them, figuring that someone wants revenge on Alex and in another attack, a man is apprehended and they think it's done. It's not done and the real culprit is surprising and his logic is that of an insane man.

I enjoyed this book as well. Hailey is the type of character I can't help but like. She's a natural sarcastic smartass and makes even tense situations amusing. She's clearly still growing as a person and I find myself wondering what will happen with her and Alex. Also, there seems to be something to her dreams. It's almost like precognition that caters to her sick twisted sense of humor in order to warn her. I can't wait to see what happens next.

Though I liked this book, I don't think it was as good as the first. Among other things, the names in this book drove me nuts!!! I mean, seriously, what type of name is Wyxinorolyxazam? I ended up shortening a lot of the names to things like Wyx and Rex because trying to read the entire name about gave me a brain aneurism.

I liked getting to see his world and it was so cool figuring out who he really was (and, yeah, there had been hints all along but I ignored them). I won't tell you though, because that would spoil the surprise! Again, the author did a good job of mixing various elements. And it was kind of funny when Alex's dad decided he wanted to take on the human name, Barack (after Barack Obama) and the main character flat out refused to use it. She went out of her way not to call him by name at all.

I was a little miffed when they talked about the crossing points between the worlds, though. They made mention of a lot of places that, hundreds of years ago, would have been uninhabitable, which would make sense why they wouldn't realize this other world was inhabited. But at the same time, the author said in the previous book that they were the reason behind various paranormal myths and all the locations she specifically mentioned don't have those myths. Nevada, the Andes, northern Scandinavia, and the Sahara aren't exactly known for their vampire myths.

It also kind of irked me that she loses this $25,000 check and she's bummed out about it. Why? Just get the check reissued. It shouldn't be a problem, right?

I liked Alex's dad and sister, who we got to meet for the first time in this book. And the ending was honestly a surprise. I didn't see it coming… at all. Any of it. Which was great.

I wanted to love this book. The concept intrigues me, and I enjoyed the first, but this one leaves much to be desired. The little annoyances in the first one grew to fruition in this one. There are multiple typos, common words that are misused, all while being extremely try hard and including unusual vocabulary. Awkwardly used unusual vocabulary. Additionally, there are a ton of scenes, side notes, and observations that contribute nothing to the story. Essentially, this reads like a first draft.

The story doesn't start until about the 60% mark. I did mention that there are a ton of unnecessary scenes. The first half of the book is approximately 90% unnecessary scenes and mini lectures that the main character gives the reader.

That said, I wouldn't say this ends on a cliffhanger. The main story is concluded. What it does end on is a heavy-handed read the next book ploy.

This is the second in the series, and if you haven’t read the first, I would recommend you read that. The first in the series is Special Offers. I really liked special offers and was excited to read the second in the series. I like the writing style of this author. So when I started this book, I was drawn in to Hailey learning to control the powers she received from the last book. Her calling Sebastian, Sebastard is priceless.
While I thought this book was not as good as the first in the series, I did enjoy reading more about the characters and the few surprises. If you read the first, you will enjoy this second book. If you have not read any, what are you waiting for? Pick up the series. You won’t be disappointed.

I thoroughly enjoyed Special Offers, the first book in the Coursodon Dimension series. So, when the author asked if I would like to review the second book, I was like Duh, of course I would. Ok, I didn't actually say that, but I was excited to get the chance to find out more about Hailey and Alex.
I really wanted to know more about Coursodon and it's inhabitants. But even better, we got to travel to Coursodon and meet some very important people. This book was even better than the first. Lots of excitement and twists. With loads of great action! (In the bedroom and out!) Alex is extremely sexy and I am loving Sebastian even though he's an asstard. (Hailey's words, not mine.) Hailey is still a very personable, albeit, kick ass character. I am already chomping at the bit for book 3.

Special Reward, M. L. Ryan's follow-up to her highly amusing first novel (Special Offers), is a worthy successor to the initial book in the Corsodon Dimension Series. The story features the return of our favorite heroine, Hailey Parrish, now imbued with some poorly understood magic powers. Circumstances force her to visit the fascinating and dangerous parallel dimension Corsodon, home to her engaging cohorts, Alex and Sebastian. Ryan's weaves witty dialogue, some romance, and plenty of action into this fast-paced plot that will leave readers eagerly awaiting book three.

Hooked and pacing the floor for book 5 !!

This review is from: Special Rewards (The Coursodon Dimension Book 2) (Kindle Edition)

Book one introduces you to Hailey, a young woman that suddenly is hearing a male voice in her head a being from another dimension, that was just the start of her adventures. Now that he left some of his powers behind in her she is having to learn how to deal with them and the sexy man that helped her get his friend out of her head. I read book 1 and dropped everything else to read books 2, 3 and 4 now I am waiting for number 5 !!

Unexpected bonus fun.

Kindle Unlimited - Thank you!

This series is a joy to read. Love the characters. The snark just manages to keep from being over the top.

What I've really been enjoying is the author's apparent love for a basic tool of her craft: words. "... helical escaliers ..."???? Totally perfect. Kind of like finding Easter eggs. Having fun pulling up the dictionary to reveal the little treasures scattered throughout the books. 💕😻💕

I really enjoyed the first book Special Offer (so I only brought it because it was about a Kindle) but after reading it I had to buy this book too. Nice job on both.
