I picked up this book to revive my rusty French. After a while, the language started to come back to me. I enjoyed the dialogues and audio component. I felt like some of the answers in the back were inaccurate and/or didn’t match the exercises, however.
The book was helpful but in some places there were typos and some answers were incorrect. I certainly don't feel confident to converse in French after but it has helped me to understand some concepts better.
Currently using this to aid my preparation for a DELF exam. I like the structure and style of the book . And I have found that the lessons are sized appropriately to allow me to study one in a single sitting without feeling overwhelmed and exhausted.
Merci Gaelle Graham. ~A Google Translation
Complete French: Teach Yourself was an easy read through for me. I gave up taking notes and just enjoyed the experience. I was disappointed that I was totally confused and lost by the audio-book format, by which I mean I was unable to find where to read along and find the appropriate transcripts in the back of the book while listening. Either I was too slow or practicing French is debilitating my normally excellent organization skills. But having an audio is still a real plus for those of us struggling with pronunciation and vocabulary. Thank You Gaelle Graham.
Overall I think the self-studying course was structured extremely well, the story around which the course revolves was a good idea not found in many other "Teach Yourself" language books.
One major problem for me was that the CD did not work properly at times and I had to abandon it altogether roughly at the midpoint of the book.
