Where does true wellness start? For thousands of years, traditional healers have been able to detect and correct imbalances at the energetic level in order to heal our physical ailments. Today, these traditions are expanding the medical understanding of our subtle anatomy and its role in our overall well-being. With Energy Healing , integrative physician Ann Marie Chiasson offers a complete guidebook of easy-to-use energy practices to enhance your health and vitality. Drawing from the material she teaches at Dr. Andrew Weil's Arizona Center for Integrative Medicine, Dr. Chiasson

I had experienced some dramatic energy cycles and felt like I was constantly depleting my own energy without replenishing it regularly enough, so on my search for a practice I could implement more regularly rather than getting healing and wellness sessions from others, I found this book.
It combines several different energy healing modalities (tapping, reiki, meditation) into an illustrated guide for practice and self-care. You can take the parts you feel work best for you and just do those, or try them all to develop a regular self-practice that works for you. The book is ideal for wellness providers who do energy work on a regular basis such as massage therapists, acupuncturists, reiki workers, nurses, hospice care workers, hospital workers, home aides, etc. It's also ideal for anyone who is trying to recover from an illness, or someone who feels over-stressed and needs to get more control over their own energy. I would definitely recommend it for those who don't have a practice they are comfortable with yet, as it provides many different options for self-care, is easy to understand, and has photos as examples. It makes a nice reference book that you can go back to over and over again for different tips and techniques.
An interesting take on energy work. The author is a medical doctor while also being trained in traditional shamanistic practices. I found some of the book very insightful, while other parts of it were barely worth reading. I don't love the energy practices she recommends, but that is mostly my personal preferences and not necessarily a reflection of the quality of the practices. The only thing that really bothered me is that she tells a lot of stories of her own experiences with energy work. She is either highly intuitive or psychic (or both) and has some pretty wild stories of things that happened to her. I felt that she kind of implied that doing the energy work practices she suggests would allow you to be open to similar kinds of experiences. It wasn't overtly stated, so I could be reading into it, but she definitely didn't make it sound like her experiences were abnormal. Don't expect that by doing the exercises she suggests that you'll suddenly start having paranormal experiences. The energy world is real and you can find true healing working with it. That doesn't necessarily mean you have to get psychic surgery or start reading other people's minds.
If you're at all interested in energy healing I feel like this is a really good book to start with. The author is also a medical doctor which gives the book a lot of cred, IMO.
What I like best about this book are the easy-to-do movements. I've been doing the Toe Tapping and Shake Your Bones for the last few days and they feel amazing! I especially like doing them before bed to relax.
- 3.5 STARS - Some easy and interesting exercises to do on your own, although Chiasson does not prescribe to any particular healing tradition; her personal stories were the most interesting in this book.
I read this in July 2013, before going to The Wake Up Festival in Estes Park, CO, where Ann Marie Chiasson was a presenter and also gave an afternoon workshop. What a blessing to have had the opportunity to be in her class. She has great energy and a lovely presence.
The book is a good resource for energy work. What I particularly like is that she uses Qigong movements along with Sacred Touch and Shamanic practices. The integration of all of her knowledge and experience is a gift she generously shares in her work. I would recommend getting her DVD titled Energy Healing for Beginners, so that you can do some of the exercises with her.
Ms. Chiasson works with Dr. Weil in his integrative health clinic in Arizona.
She includes a variety of self-healing techniques using the energy flow of the body. I learned a great deal. The practices in here are ones I can use for the rest of my life.
