About the author

Ralf König was born on the 8th of August in Soest, Westphalia, Germany. He went to the secondary school in Werl and then later did an apprenticeship as a cabinet-maker. In 1979 during his coming-out he published his first short comic stories which due to the politically motivated gay-movement were very engaged. The comic-stories appeared in the Munich underground magazine Zomix as well as in the gay periodical Rosa Flieder. He decided to continue his studies and then trained at the National Academy of Art in Düsseldorf from 1981-1986 concentrating on Free Art.

Es un tebeo de 1986 y se nota. Ha envejecido en cuanto al tipo de dibujo y, por supuesto, en cuanto al tono. Es probable que gente que lo lea ahora lo encuentre ofensivo pero no lo es para nada. Está lleno de humor, de auto parodia y de sarcasmo. El hombre deseado cuanta la historia de un grupo de amigos gays de Dusseldorf cuando a su pandilla llega un hombre heterosexual guapo y muy machista por el que todos se sienten atraídos y que todos quieren llevarse a la cama. Es una gamberrada divertida. Me ha encantado que en la solapa cuenten que el autor estudió carpintería y salió del armario en la misma época, porque me ha parecido el colmo de la fantasía gay: un rudo carpintero con su cinturón de herramientas. (Bueno, y también es un poco fantasía de mujer heterosexual, que conste.)

La obra es divertida, especialmente por mostrar al hombre heterosexual (Axel) como ese "otro" en contraposición a los hombres homosexuales que conoce durante su breve paso por un grupo de hombres que debaten la misoginia junto a uno de los personajes gay de la obra (Walter/Waltrina). Contínuamente se ven la oposición entre el "macho" (hombre hetero misógino) y los homosexuales que se ríen de aquel aunque reconocen su atractivo físico. También se ve el universo de la mujer con los ojos de Dora, la expareja de Axel y cómo lleva la ruptura.

Gave it an extra star because I like the art style. Overall an obnoxious story about a straight guy using gay men for his own needs that gets everything he wants at the end through no effort of his own. An absolutely exhausting plot that I'm amazed and saddened got made into a movie. Found out about this book from a list of gay comics and I'm super disappointed that the gay characters are just set dressing for a straight asshole's mediocre story.

This book is a sort of strange comic from Europe, Germany maybe, translated into English. It has pretty strong homosexual themes. It's about a guy who has a girlfriend, but somehow ends up hanging out with a bunch of gay fellows, thus having to question his masculinity, etc. Some of it is pretty homophobic and some of it has the gay guys playing out all of the gay guy stereotypes. It's kinf of dated too.
