I am a true romantic at heart and with a modern contemporary erotic twist to my romance novels, you had better fasten your seat belt, as the ride is always fun, exciting and fiery.
Living in Las Vegas, but a mid-westerner at heart, I find plenty of inspiration for my books in my own exciting life. I have always loved the arts and as a young girl, I took dance classes and spent the summers reading books from the local library. Fascinated with the written word and its power to guide the imagination, I started writing short stories and later took Creative Writing classes in college. I graduated from The University of Iowa with a B.A. in Journalism and an M.A. in Higher Education. I also have a Teaching Credential from Chapman University in Southern California.

I would love to hear your thoughts on the novel. You can email me directly at evecarterbooks@gmail.com and if you enjoyed the book, please share your excitement with other fans of women’s erotic romance. You can write a review by clicking here: Deceived Part 1 – New York

This was terrible! Absolutely terrible! I couldn't read one more word of this.
I don't remember the last time I read a book so bad! All those books I hated and ranted on about and gave low ratings to: I apologize! I am sincerely remorseful, as you were not this bad! You couldn't have been so bad even if you tried! I think I just read the worst book of my life. Well, now I have an answer for the lovely question, "what is the worst book you've ever read". So there's that!

So what was so bad about this book that it was awarded Rosaline's Worst Book of a Lifetime Award?

It's easier to say what was good about it instead.

Let me just quickly list the reasons why I made the best decision possible and stopped at 40%:

● 2 year-old MC being a high school - no middle school (No offense to middle schoolers, I love y'all) - baby who acted like a kid and just so terribly unprofessional. And God why is she working? She should be in diapers!

● Creepy boss asking employee to change in his office which is just so far-fetched! Or is it?

I would like to think so, people! I would like to think so!

Besides creepster hero is never a good sign! Am I right or am I right?

Very successful businesswoman ignoring business meetings and instead flirting with the Creepster who's trying to impress her because reasons and also I skipped the part where Creepster takes forever explaining her business because reasons of my own including boredom at bad writing!

Successful businesswoman aka S.B for reasons unknown feeling threatened by a little Baby in Diapers aka BiD and being a jerk to her in a business meeting in which she was flirting and not working!

● So because there's no real plot whatsoever two women start fighting over one oblivious creepy Creepster and this fighting includes:
- ruining private dinner dates
- efficient amount of glaring
- BiD getting roasted by S.B because of origins
- BiD masturbating in the bathroom for some reason? And getting caught by S.B (I didn't get that one either! Please feel free to be disturbed!)
- BiD being a total drunk asshole and saying some very rude stuff to S.B in the infamous Bathroom
At which point I was skimming and deeming it a good idea to bounce out of that book before any more of my brain caught on fire! Honestly no amount of brain bleach could've fixed me had I continued.

Such disgusting behaviour, women being mean to each other for no reason, baby MCs, creepy creepsters, bad writing, and nonexistent plots are not for me.
So I'll be taking my business elsewhere.

And please, for the sake of your sanity, stay away, my dear bookworms! Stay. Away!

Curiosity killed the reader.

Chloe Swanson … Chloe, Chloee, Chloeee,Chloooooeeeee.

This is a First Person POV, and I wouldn’t want to spend another 120 pages in Chloe’s head. I don’t know how old she is ‘supposed’ to be, but I think sixteen would be an accurate guess. I don’t care how many big words she knows. Her thoughts, and actions were a bewilderment. I thought this was a parody, the prose beyond purple into a language that was at times, beyond any color wheel.

Patrick Collins … Who? Mr. Collins that’s who.

I don’t really know much about him. He’s her “boss”, and not a very good one. He’s ’supposed’ to be 38 years old. Not possible. It’s also not possible for him to own his own company, and tie his shoes.

There were some seriously weird word usage:

“During the initial interview we exchanged handshakes and I felt a salacious propulsive energy flood my body like a deluge.” --Chloe Oookay. 7% in.

“Wait. Would you, would you- um- show me by trying it on?” --Mr. Collins (her boss. Instructing her to try on a dress bought for his niece) Chloe then proceeded to change in his filing room, came out, pushed her hair aside for him to zipper her up, and he powdered his breath, or his breath powdered on her back or her ear. Who cares. She knew this was taboo, but her sentient pleasure was buzzing through her body. (her thoughts not mine)

Mr. Collins decides that Chloe the secretary needs to be promoted to help campaign for some Baroness, who owns billions of dollars in real estate. He is currently only working on her charities and he wants the rest of her business. She’s: gorgeous, rich, titled, in her 40’s , an old hag, and of course the villain. She’s over the top ridiculous, even too much for a cartoon character.

The Baroness and Chloe are having a “whose dick is bigger” … in this case, I guess that would be “whose musky, wet, vagina is dripping more” during their meeting, since Mr. Collins is willing to do anything to get her business, he throws Chloe under the bus and sends her out to fetch the Baroness some coffee. The tantrums begin. Mind you, Patrick and Chloe only shared a kiss and she’s full out territorial, on the side of protection order.

While she’s out, the Baroness and Mr. Collins decide to talk over dinner. When Chloe gets back, he asks her to make the reservations. He leaves his iPhone on his desk and Chloe decides she’s going to bring it to him at the restaurant. She gives him his phone, he proceeds to get her a chair, orders her some drinks, she gets drunk, goes into the bathroom stall, starts thinking about the kiss and proceeds to masturbate. The Baroness comes into the bathroom and catches her. Chloe knows she’s busted, comes out, goes to the mirror to fix her face, the Baroness physically assaults her AND digitally rapes her. You read that right. She grabs her around the neck, threatens her life, and sticks her fingers in her vagina to see how wet she was.

The End. But not.

Miss five dollar vocabulary doesn’t do a damn thing about it. Adjusts her skirt, gets a lift home by Patrick, and they end up screwing in her apartment. After being choked and fingered without consent.

I also want to mention there was NO usage of condoms, no talk about birth control, STD’s, or anything remotely responsible.

I just want to leave this review with a few quotes:

“I needed Elyse to solace me.” --Chloe

“ I leaned on the countertop below the mirror with saline seeping into the corners of my mouth. I wiped away my tears with the back of my hand…” --Chloee

“ If I was going to be a true New Yorker, I had better learn not to take things so damn personally. I was such a Dorothy.” --Choleee

“I ran my hands up his thigh as he stood before me, his diamond cutter bulging within his pants.” --Chloeeeee

“He used one hand to spread me apart while palpating the viscosity of my wetness with agile fingers of the other.” --Chloeeeeeeeeeeeee

“He fondled my slit and tweaked my clit, thrusting two fingers inside of me in a precursory gesture. I arched and moaned, voraciously wanting more, his tactile swirling and rubbing, coaxing me into a pyretic frenzy of desire. Skillfully he orchestrated my orgasm.” --Get REAL

“Like a piston in a crank shaft, he pumped me hard …” --Save me

These characters are awful, I couldn't stand Chloe, she has the mental age of..I'm guessing a 12-14 year-old. Her actions didn't make much sense and her inner dialogue was so stupid.
The guy... whatever his name is, was booooring.
The Baroness -aka the bitch- was an interesting character, until the restroom incident which I may add was a WTF moment for me, seriously... I think the Baroness might be a werewoman or something, she grabbed Chloe by the throat and lift her while doing some pretty weird stuff to her...so, either she's on steroids or Choe weighs 30 pounds.

I had problems with the editing and the writing, there was a bit of everything, I found typos, some words that might have been meant as something else, words missing, grammar mistakes... and english isn't even my first language so it makes me wonder what else I didn't see.
But the writing takes the cake, weird words that just... just no!

This is from the "hottest moment" in the whole story, you can tell me if you find it hot, sexy, arousing or if it's something else...

"He fondled my slit and tweaked my clit, thrusting two fingers inside of me in a precursory gesture. I arched and moaned, voraciously wanting more, his tactile swirling and rubbing coaxing me into a pyretic frenzy of desire. Skillfully, he orchestrated my orgasm, tenaciously crafting my rise towards ecstasy when, the next thing I knew, he had me, all four on the floor, mounting me from the rear, sliding his cock down into me. The long slow slide in sent a responsive moan to my lips. Each stroke stretched me, the friction signaling a cavalcade of new erotic sensation to my brain. Holding the curves of my hips, he stroked me from behind, smoothing the cheeks of my elevated ass with the palms of his hands, alternating gripping my hips for the up thrust and shifting too low for the down stroke. His body bent over mine, staccato breaths powdering my back, he growled like an unleashed beast.

Like a piston in a crank shaft, he pumped me hard. I could feel the muscular tone of his thighs slamming up against the back of my upper legs, vibratory jolts cascading throughout my entire body, domino style. His steady pumping picked up speed, ramping me up, and just when I felt like I would spin out of control, he reached around and in one touch of my clit, pressed my magic button, holding it firmly in place. Controlling my revolutions per minute, he let me idle, stalling me, in a deliberate orchestration of my release. He pulled out and rolled me over onto my back.

There really isn’t much to say, the story line was almost too easy, there was a “Baroness” who causes drama but other than that, Eh! Think I’ll pass on the rest of the series … The sex scenes could have been HOT but I got distracted, I was too busy crakin up:

” …spread me apart while palpitating the viscosity of my wetness with agile fingers.”

”Like a piston with a crank shaft, he pumped me hard….vibratory jolts cascading throughout my entire body, domino style.”

”Controlling my revolutions per minute, he let me idle, stalling me, in a deliberate orchestration of my release.”

Someone needs to step away from the thesaurus. Some of the words and phrases she uses in this book are outrageous. Piston crank shaft? Diamond cutter? Really? And the exclamation points need to go. Way too many. And one last thing....here in New York, they are not called freeways, they are highways, expressways and parkways. The route to get to the hamptons from Manhattan made no sense either. And most people who live in NYC don't drive all over, they take a cab.
Thank god it was free.

So this story captured my interest from the prologue. As soon as I read it I wanted to read the rest of the story & find out how Chloe got to the place that she was at.

Chloe is a sweet Midwestern girl who you can’t help but like immediately. She is sincere and funny and determined to make something of herself.

Patrick, what can I say about him? How many synonyms are there for HOT… I mean he has your panties melting when you read this book.

Gripping his massive manhood in one hand, he impaled me with his penis, his other hand smacking my butt cheek with a sharp whack.

With one final tug of my clit, he pushed a momentous stroke and roared,” You’re all mine!”

I mean tell me ladies who wouldn’t want that???? I do wish that he would have been more up front with Chloe about his past with the evil Biatch Baroness, but then there wouldn’t be much of a story I guess.

All in all it’s a great book and I think you’ll love it as much as I did.

This has to be the worst book I've ever read. There is literally no storyline? I was going to stop reading it but then I noticed something unusual. Something that had me laughing, when I don't think it was the authors intention? Not just bad editing, I've read many books with bad editing. This was an attempt to be descriptive but it just didn't hit the mark. What it did do was make sure I finished the book as I was ridiculously entertained by it all. Here are some of my favourites:
- seductively seducing
- salacious propulsive energy
- the mixture of the smell of his cologne and charm melted my heart.
- I inhaled the toxic ardour of his cologne.
- the combination of his fervent kisses on my neck and his hard body pressing up against my back, made an amalgam like soup of my thoughts.
- the transcendental atmosphere of Patrick's bedroom was replete with copious memories of a lifetime.
- encompassed in a luminous cloud if which I was merely the fiery heart, my emotions swung through unthinkable arcs of oscillation, like a pendulum.

I really have nothing else to say!

I've made a promise to myself not to waste time reading something if it brings me to full stop every few sentences for an editing error. It's too bad about this one, the plot promised to have a different twist. But when I read 'my mouth was as dry as a dessert storm' I pictured cupcakes and pieces of pie flying at me. A few paragraphs later 'seductively seduce' was the last straw. If you can overlook this, go ahead and read it. Let me know if the story was as good as it sounded. I'll be reading something that's been properly edited.

Ms. Carter, if you are reading this, please forgive me if I have been overly harsh. I highly recommend going to one of the groups here at Goodreads that offers beta reading support. I did like the premise of your story.

The reason why I actually started reading Deceived is because my blog's Twitter account had been followed by author Eve Carter. And I thought, I could as well give it a go in order to return the favour! And I must say the cover and title where rather appealing. At first, I was disappointed that the book had only 120 pages, but in the end I guess it was better that way... If you are afraid of spoilers you might not want to read on, but the whole book is such a mess you wouldn't be able to write a review without any spoilers.

So about the plot: Chloe Swansson is assistant to her boss Patrick Collins, for whom she has a fling. She's a young graduate, and he's 38. One day, out of the blue, he gets close to her. They make out, they have multiple orgasms, he wines and dines her several times, confesses his love and then she finds him kissing another woman. I guess that's what most stories are about and who cares if you read this type of scenario over and over again as long as you get attached to the characters, the story and whatnot, but here, it just feels as if Eve Carter was in a rush to put this scenario into 120 pages as fast as she could to get it over with. There is no description at all, no explanations, everything just happens out of the blue and seems totally unreal.

And the way the story ends is totally irrational (I guess it's supposed to be what Eve Carter calls a cliffhanger, but I don't see it that way): Chloe knows she has been set up by the exact same woman Patrick kisses, so that she could witness the scene and get angry. He runs after her and tries to explain, says it's not mutual, confesses his love, yet she doesn't want to hear anything and still runs away. Duh! Not an ounce of rationality, but well...

What's more, the writing was strange, apart from the fact that it was not descriptive at all, it was blatant that Eve Carter used strange word associations to make her little descriptions (especially the sex scenes) more "interesting":

"He stood before me, his diamond cutter bulging within his pants" - This does not refer to a tool but to an actual man's penis. Okay...
"Like a piston with a crank shaft, he pumped me hard….vibratory jolts cascading throughout my entire body, domino style." - Right, domino style...
"I arched and moaned, voraciously wanting more, his tactile swirling and rubbing, coaxing me into a pyretic frenzy of desire." - Stop it. Now.

Other than that Eve Carter has some serious proofreading issues. Most books have those issues, and I never care to mention, but when you're just overwhelmed with bad spelling, misplaced punctuation and the likes scattered all over a mere 120 pages, it gets really annoying. Oh and when you spell the sound "Awe" instead of "Awww" two to three times in 3 pages, it is definitely not a typo... I am being harsh, right?

But well, this is my honest opinion, this book is just plain mediocre, and yet this is a nice word I'm using here. Thank god it was so short. I will definitely be reading the sequels out of curiosity and in order to see if this gets worse. I honestly don't think it could.

Becca's Books Review:

I have had this book for a while, and read it once before, but with the other 2 book now available, i was re-read it. I thought it was a good book, i wanted Chloe and Patrick to figure things out, it was one of those i wanted you for like last 6 months and she wanted him since she came to work for him.

Chloe is Patricks assistant. she is working her way up in advertising and it would be great for her to work on an account as big and as worth as much as the ones that Patrick works on, the only problem is the Billionaire that owns the account wants Patrick for herself and will do anything she has to get him..

I really liked this book and am hoping for more out the series.. i don't want to see Chloe just take it from either Patrick or Anna.
i like the characters and love Ryan, Patricks best friend from college. i can't wait to find out what chloe does next.

I enjoyed this book. I have a harder time connecting with the characters when a book is this short, but I did enjoy the characters as individuals and as a couple. Some of the scenes read a tad wordy for me, but I did love the easy visual that I got from it.
I'm excited for book two, and am looking forward to finding out what happens with Patrick and Chloe. I love a good villain and the Baroness was just that. I knew she would cause a problem at some point, I just wish it wasn't so close to the end.
Overall, I really enjoyed it!

I'm sorry, it's not that the book was poorly written, because it's written well. But, I'm tired of reading pathetic, weak women who cry over stupid things. I can't finish the book because I can't relate to the female character. Seriously, you're going to go all bat sh!t jealous after all he did was kiss you? I really do apologize, but I can't finish it. Unless someone tells me that she all of a sudden gets over her melodrama, I can't go on.

I love Eve's prose, she churned out a very steamy erotica. Her protagonist actually feels things emotionally and it's beautifully reflected on the pages.

This book is one of the better written ones that I have read in this genre.

The end, of course, is a cliffhanger! heheh... got to love those.
Absolutely looking forward to Eve's future works.

As the book started with Chloe standing in the water, talking about her feelings and how this whole thing started a couple of weeks ago, you already knew from the beginning that something, at some point would go wrong, which automatically makes me want to find out what goes wrong.

Former Iowa MBA-student Chloe is an attractive young woman who has started her dreamjob as an assistent in an ad-agency in exciting New York.
Her boss, Patrick Collins is a handsome man, muscles cut in a v-shape on his abdomen, straight jaws, dark brown hair and steel-blue eyes...

The story between Chloe and Patrick starts when Patrick asks Chloe to bring the file of a female billionaire client, "the Baroness" and informs Chloe that he wants her to participate in the afternoon meeting with this client.
Behind closed doors, Patrick suddenly asks Chloe to go and buy something for his niece. Once Chloe returns with the gift, she has no idea what is going to happen next nor that this would be the start of their romantic, erotic relationship.

The moment Chloe meets "the baroness" she knows straight away she doesn't like this billionaire client at all. And while Chloe gets to unexpectedly meet this client again in the ladies room of a chique restaurant, something very strange happens between them...
(Eve, she seriously did that?? - I was like OMG !!)

What followes is a romantic & erotic story between the 2 of them as Patrick treats Chloe like a princess taking her out for dinner, to and art-gallery and to his penthouse...

Chloe completely forgets about the baroness until they suddenly see each other again in a not so pleasant way, away from home...

The story ends in a cliffhanger that gets me waiting for Part 2 of this series...

Overall, a very well written strong (but too short) story with well developped characters, filled with romance, erotism, passion, excitement and humor.

I'd love to give it 5 stars but a very few spelling/word errors and the fact that, for me, the book is too short to get me completely taken into it, makes it getting a well deserved 4 stars from me

I'm looking forward to the next books in this series !!

PS: any idea yet when the next part will be available?

f you were deceived into feeling some type way, would you retaliate? Would you be humiliated? Would you run with your tail tucked between your legs? Where would your emotions be?

Chloe is a young woman working for a powerful man, Patrick Collins. Chloe is in love or lust with her boss from afar. Patrick is feeling the same for Chloe. These two are dancing around each other leaving the air thick with lustful intentions and words unspoken. Chloe finally one day gets an amazing, smack you in the face, toe tingling kiss from Patrick and this sets them on a course, that you would think is headed toward a pleasurable future. As always with a romantic story, there is a bitter woman who does not want this to happen. Enter into the picture, Baroness Anna. By all accounts she is an uber witch, who gets off on making others miserable and she is determined to have Patrick.

As Chloe and Patrick embark into unknown relationships, we meet Ryan. Ryan is a sweetheart that loves Patrick like no other. Ryan sees these two and knows that sparks are flying. Chloe and Patrick continue their relationship all the while having interference from the Baroness. With this interference comes deception and deceit. Will Chloe buckle under the pressure? Is Patrick being honest? Check out Deceived and you will not be disappointed.

What a sexy romp of a story! A typical tale of small town girl trying to make her way in the Big Apple, falling for her smokin’ hot boss, having really inappropriate contact and the somewhat predictable results from that contact/relationship. However, there are additional factors that come into play with this story that make it not another ‘wanna be’ book flavor of the month. I enjoyed (not really!) the introduction of the evil ‘other woman’. Sex was steamy but not over the top. Pacing, atmosphere/location descriptions and character development were good and added to the overall experience. My main criticism is the author must have had a thesaurus by her elbow because there were numerous instances where certain words seemed out of context with the flow. It was obvious to me that a more ‘stuffy’ word was used when a common one would have sufficed given the particular text. I mean, really, who uses the word ‘betwixt’ (as in, “betwixt her legs”) unless it fits in with the other verbiage? Would like it better as a true trilogy rather than a serial novel. Nevertheless, I really liked the book and will read the next installments.

Deceived Part 1 New York (Erotic Romance)
By Eve Carter

If you are into a fast read with steamy sex then this is the book for you!!

Chloe and Patrick (Chloe's boss) start fast, so there is not much waiting for the good stuff to start.
This book has a lot of turns, and a bitter ex. (which is something I love)

The Baroness, the woman in Patrick's life before Chloe, will stop at nothing to keep the two apart. She is down right despicable, a great character to hate.

Chloe seems to know what she wants, does not wine but i do feel she tends to speed her feelings up.... something i think is a little to umm... crazy

Patrick is the kind of man who can easily get what he wants and right now he wants Chloe, and he pounces on her with out hesitation.

The only thing I didn't enjoy about this book was the way Chloe didn't really listen to reasons behind everything that happened....

lots to absorb when it comes to this book! cant wait to start part 2 and then part 3

Deceived wasn't good, it wasn't bad - the best i can say is that it was ok. The story wasnt terrible, but I found myself annoyed by the excessive use of exclamation points. They were used all the time, and personally I didn't think Patrick would be expressing excitement... He seemed like he should be a lot more contained.
The romance aspect also unraveled too quickly in my opinion. It seemed unnaturally fast. In other books (50 Shades, Crossfire series, etc) the relationships developed at a very fast pace, but the way the story was told made it believable. This just seems like the author is skipping through to the next checkpoint at the expense of being believable.
The book overall was ok, but I won't feel compelled to read the next book in this series.

This book was horrible. It had editing errors and read like the life of a teenager. And it was like the author tried to throw in big words to make the writing seem more mature. And all it did was leave a bitter taste in my mouth. And really just made me want to laugh with the immature writing technique. I couldn't even finish this story. Quit reading it right where Chloe interrupted the dinner between Patrick and the Baroness. Don't waste your time on this one and move on to something else.

Enjoyable novella, first book in series. Chloe has been working in New York for 6 months when she discovers one day that her crush on her boss Patrick goes both ways. She then has to endure a business meeting with the firm's top client who blatantly flirts with Patrick and belittles her. This story is about love, letting go, discovery and deception. Looking forward to Book 2.

Very hot!!!! I can see this story going in many different directions!!! It was short, so I'm hoping book 2 is a full length!!!

I loved the content, a bit short, the story could have had more time to build the relationship, hate the baroness !!! Biatch
