The I Quit Sugar Cookbook is the follow-up to Sarah Wilson's I Quit Program. It doesn’t muck it features more than 108 desserts, cakes, snacks, kids’ treats and detox meals, plus a bunch of other tricks and tips and links. It will help you shop for ingredients, convert quantities and get extra detox and background information…in a click!
The cookbook looks lovely and has very nice photos inside. The information is valuable and valid. Too much sugar is terrible for our bodies. Cutting it out is difficult but with the proper recipes it can be done. Sadly, I couldn't try out these recipes because the ingredients are difficult to find around here, and very expensive. This cookbook would work great for someone who lives in an area where you can purchase these ingredients and they have the extra income to afford them. The idea is great, but the usability is narrow. I received an ARC through the publisher in exchange for an honest review. This in no way influenced my opinion, which is my own and may or may not mirror your own.
Brilliant! I did the 8 week plan last year but sugar has been creeping back in more than I'd like it to so nice to be inspired by these delicious recipes
I am going to look into quitting sugar more. This book has great-looking recipes, but they're definitely on the more expensive side. A good jumping off point.
Beautiful presentation, and I loved the informal feeling of the layout. The reference information here is also great - and don't skip the sidebars.
Unfortunately, I would say only about a quarter of the recipes are practical for the average family. If I lived on my own in a city with good shopping options, then it would be more useful. (Likewise the comments about conservation and eating in season - it's something we try to do, but when your local growing season is three months long, you can only do so much.)
Still, a great book to check out, browse, and take ideas from!
I have a few of Sarah's books which are wonderful, but I didn't feel that this one delivered the goods. I have it on Kindle and maybe the print book looks better, but there weren't as many recipes in the book as I expected. Disappointed.
The I Quit Sugar Cookbook is colorful, filled with good information and tasty recipes. The pictures of food in the cookbook make you hungry just looking at them, and the best part is they're good for you.
In addition to recipes, the cookbook contains valuable information on setting up your kitchen, getting the best pots and pans, and baking dishes. From there the author goes into buying in bulk, how to store food, freezing, using leftovers and more. I found the ideas for using up your sugar very helpful since you won't be cooking with it. I hate to waste food so the section on leftovers was particularly helpful.
In the appendix, the author includes a suggested shopping list, ideas for substitutions, and a guide to sugar and sweeteners. You should probably turn to this appendix right away to get a good idea of just how dangerous sugar and sweeteners can be.
The bulk of the cookbook is filled with recipes. I love the section of leftovers. Last Night's Dinner with and Egg Stuck in it, is creative and it tastes great. There is also an excellent section on fermenting and other gut healing foods. This is a helpful section if you want to keep you gut healthy and try to avoid chronic diseases.
I highly recommend this cookbook. It's cheerful, packed with useful information, and the recipes and great.
I received this book from Blogging for Books for this review.
This is a great, great, great cookbook. I love it almost as much as I do That Sugar Book. It provides you with all the necessary information, dispels common food myths and, most importantly, supplies you with more than enough sugar-free recipes. There are also plenty of helpful tips and tricks, the design and layout are beyond adorable, the recipes easy to follow and there’s a plethora of links leading to the author’s website and many others providing further info. All in all, a great cookbook about a field which is just now starting to develop, as there is still much confusion when it comes to the subject of sugar. But, thanks to books like this one that seek to disabuse us of all illusions and preconceived notions (especially about what foods are “acceptable” and “appropriate” to eat for each meal), we can rest assured that we’ve made the right choices when it comes to our day-to-day nutrition and lives.
I Quit Sugar, by Sarah Wilson is filled with GREAT tips and suggestions. Sarah, the author filled the cookbook with GREAT photo’s and how-to’s. Unfortunately, it is not something we would use here, not even a little bit. Personally, I don’t have the funds to have all the extra different flours and milk’s and spices that she uses throughout the I Quit Sugar cookbook. So, I am giving this cookbook 3 stars.
I wanted to make a recipe for this review, and I just could not find one that we would eat. I guess we are pickier than I thought. So while I would love to recommend this book, I just cannot. If you are geared more towards Paleo, or can afford to to buy what the recipe calls for, this cookbook is for you.
I received this book as a gift for a review on my blog
I want to proclaim up front that this is the best cookbook I've read this year! It is vibrantly colored and incredibly enthralling for a cookbook. Seriously, this book is lush and modern with real recipes that won't make you feel like a kitchen failure and while providing healthy choices for your family. I highly recommend this book and think is should be on every family's kitchen shelf.
I should remember I hate reading cookbooks. It felt true to her time as a magazine editor -- beautiful pictures but sometimes the food seemed too complicated and not filling enough to be worth the effort. But maybe it's just that I hate reading cookbooks.
