Did the Cold War end or did the KGB find a way to retain its power and dominate the new Russian Federation? “Harry’s Rules” is an espionage thriller set against the backdrop of post-Soviet Russia in the early 1990’s. Written by a veteran of CIA’s Clandestine Services, the novel exposes the chilling and authentic sources of the power and the abiding malice of the people who rule Russia today. When a CIA officer is murdered shortly after meeting a long inactive Russian agent in Vienna, Harry Connolly is sent on a secret mission to investigate. He is drawn inexorably into a vortex of violence and international intrigue when his mission runs afoul of a powerful Russian revanchist organization controlled by former KGB officers.
Not too fast paced. Characters well described. Plot believable. especially likes that bit's not too black and white. Although the enemy are the Russians. Not all Russians are only bad and not all Americans are good. As I can't give a half star. 4 stars, it's not five star material to me. But a decent read. Liked it
An excellent story of historical significance; namely the fall of the Soviet union and the rise of an even greater threat to the world. Harry Connors finds himself in a no win situation as a CIA agent who tries to expose the real threat of the new Russia. The story is well written and historically accurate. The action is smart and plentiful. A very good espionage read.
