Tuaca Tan: A Private Investigator Comedy Mystery

Rate this book
Parading for Mardi Gras is no party...

When PI Franki Amato was invited to watch her sixty-something landlady, Glenda, compete at the French Quarter’s annual kickoff to Mardi Gras weekend, she had reservations. After all, the event is called the Greasing of the Poles, and Glenda is an ex-stripper. But she never expected the fun event to turn her world upside down—and, literally, the victim’s. Now instead of hunting for a wedding venue with her honey, Franki’s hunting for a killer. The trail seems to lead to the wealthy board of the Krewe of Clotho, a carnival organization of women whose character is nowhere near as impeccable as their blonde hair, tan outfits, and old New Orleans ancestry. As members begin dropping like beads from Bourbon Street balconies, Franki has to crack clues as murky as the krewe’s signature milk punch brunch drink. Otherwise, this Mardi Gras parade could be her last.

Tuaca Tan is book 8 in the Franki Amato Mysteries, but it can be read as a standalone. If you like zany characters and laugh-out-loud humor with a splash of suspense, then you’ll drink up this fun series by USA Today Bestselling Author Traci Andrighetti. Cheers!

Traci Andrighetti is the USA Today bestselling author of the Franki Amato mysteries and the Danger Cove Hair Salon mysteries, and she is a co-author of the Killer Foursome mysteries. Her latest release is 4 SLEUTHS & A BACHELORETTE, Franki's first co-investigation with the sleuths of Leslie Langtry, Arlene McFarlane, and Diana Orgain. Right now Traci's plotting TUACA TAN, Franki Amato 8, about the members of an all-female Mardi Gras krewe who keep dropping dead. Next off the press is Franki’s second investigation with her new “krewe,” 4 SLEUTHS & A BURLESQUE DANCER, about a washed up dolphin dancer found dead in the water. LMAO (the initials of Langtry, Andrighetti, McFarlane, and Orgain)! :D

Everything I have read written by Traci Andrighetti has proved the perfect pick-me-up – and I didn’t even have to wait until wine o’clock. ‘Tuaca Tan’ offers yet more splendid escapism in the wonderfully wild and eccentric world of the Mardi Gras and N’Orleans. The ex-stripper landlady’s costumes boggle the mind and made me laugh aloud, as did the pole-greasing contest, the screwball wigs with inbuilt cocktail bars, or pharmacies for the attendant hangovers. The Soviet alternative to the flapper dress is the real reason communism failed … and the Lambourghini-type lavatories are a must-not-miss. Somehow, amidst the murder mayhem, our accident-prone heroine makes sense of the nuttiness, dodging her controlling mother and determined nonna (both hell-bent on getting her married) not to mention a money-mad Russian ‘beautician’ and other gloriously deranged characters.
Apart from the manic frolics, there’s a deal of well-researched history on French and Italian poisoners – spoiler: the French stole the ‘art’ from the Italians – and the founders and immigrants to New Orleans. The writing is slick, quick, and engaging, with plenty of gags to keep you turning the pages.

Another great Franki adventure! This one had everything: Mardi Gras krews, strippers, queens, family issues, fiancé issues, car issues and murder. Franki is on a non-stop race to catch a murderer. She’s trying to stay out of trouble; but between her family and her job, she is really stretched. Lots of twists, turns and suspects make this a must-read!

Party time!!! Like only Franki can. Well okay she was too busy trying to solve multiple murders while everybody around her was partying and I just loved it, come and join the fun and laughter. New Orleans and in particular Mardi Gras is such a bright and colourful experience, one that with this book you get to enjoy in the comfort of your own chair and with out the crowds or possible death, unless of course you laugh too loud. The author paints a very vivid picture with not only the characters but also the bizarre and unique costumes used in the parade. I just love the variety of characters that go into making this story so entertaining and the situations they find themselves in. The mystery was good and with so much going on it just flew by like a parade float going by, well okay like a supped up toilet (you have to read it to find out what I mean). There was a lot of history that didn't mean anything to me but it was interesting that it had me looking a few things up on the internet. One of my favourite authors and I can't wait for the next adventure err....case.
A misunderstanding has Franki Amato attending the greasing of the pole to watch her ex stripper landlady compete in the competition, only to watch a murder happen. The prime suspects hire Franki to find out who is framing them. The clues lead her to go undercover at the Krewe of Clotho. The floats founding members seem to be involved, until someone starts killing them off one by one. Can Franki find the killer with help from some very unlike people or will Mardi Gras be the death of her or her marriage plans?
I was given this free review copy book at my request and have voluntary left this review.

Franki is back to her usual bumbling investigating this time there's been a murder in a Mardi Gras Krewe. Her motley crew of friends, family and those people she can't stand but somehow can't shake make their appearances in this latest mystery in New Orleans. How will they ever figure out who the killer is? Franki's mother and Nonna are back to inserting themselves in Franki's love life they have definitely made it their mission to get that girl married.

**This review is for the audiobook on Audible.**

The audiobook Tuaca Tan by Traci Andrighetti, narrated by Madeline Mrozek, is Book 8 of the Franki Amato Mysteries, but like the others in the series, it can be listened to as a standalone if you prefer. As always, Andrighetti's writing and Mrozek's narration do not disappoint! The writing is excellent; Andrighetti has somehow managed to combine a perfect mix of unique, crazy characters and wild, action-packed scenes of Mardi Gras with the realistic events of Franki Amato's life, both personally and professionally. Tuaca Tan is a well-balanced mystery that will keep you guessing…and laughing non-stop…through to the end. There is a lot going on and a lot to keep tabs on, but if you've read any of the other books in the series, you'll run into some familiar faces and feel right at home in no time at all.

The best part of Tuaca Tan for me was listening to the top-notch performance by Madeline Mrozek. She is so entertaining and everything you could possibly ever want in a narrator. I'm not sure if this audiobook had more characters than others in the series, but it felt like it for me. I don't think I would have been able to keep track of everyone as well as I did if it wasn't for Mrozek's ability to bring the characters and their personalities to life with her distinct voices and accents for each of them. This must have taken forever to record, and her consistency is literally flawless. I'm thoroughly impressed.

Overall, Tuaca Tan: Franki Amato Mysteries, Book 8 written by Traci Andrighetti and narrated by Madeline Mrozek is deserving of 5/5 stars! I recommend this audiobook to fans of mysteries with lots of humor and over-the-top storylines and characters. Not only will you enjoy walking the streets of Mardi Gras alongside Franki as she works to solve her latest whodunit case, but you'll also love the hilarious scenes and all the quirky characters you'll meet along the way. Happy listening!

Thank you for reading my review. I hope it was helpful. :-)

Set against the backdrop of New Orleans’ lively festivities, this cozy mystery blends light humor and a touch of quirkiness, creating a charming atmosphere that keeps the tone lighthearted and enjoyable throughout.

The story unfolds with the intriguing premise of a man being poisoned during the vibrant tradition of greasing the poles in preparation for Mardi Gras. As the plot thickens, readers are introduced to a captivating array of characters, each adding their unique flair to the narrative. From the witty detective with a penchant for solving mysteries to a colorful cast of suspects, the diverse personalities lend depth and excitement to the unfolding events.

While the humor may venture into the raunchy territory, it is balanced with a sense of playfulness that keeps the tone engaging. However, it is worth noting that some instances of body shaming may deter sensitive readers.

Despite these occasional distractions, the core mystery remains compelling, enticing listeners to join Franki on her quest to unravel the truth behind the poisoning.

The audiobook benefits greatly from Madeline Mrozek’s exceptional narration, where she skillfully brings a diverse cast of characters to life. With her remarkable talent, she seamlessly embodies each character, lending them distinct voices and vibrant personalities. Her interpretations add a level of depth and immersion to the story that truly enhances the overall experience.

In conclusion, this audiobook offers a delightful blend of cozy mystery, an enchanting New Orleans backdrop, a diverse cast of characters, and an atmospheric setting. While it might not suit every taste, the combination of an engaging storyline, quirky humor, and a compelling mystery is a treat worth savoring.

I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

Mardi Gras! That magical time in New Orleans where thoughts turn to King Cakes and Krewes. This year's adventure for Franki Amato includes finding a wedding location, eating King Cake, and surviving Miss Glinda's antics. Oops...and solving a string of murders before she is added to the statistics.

The real magic is following Franki as she deals with familiar and new characters along with doing her job. These characters are hilarious, quirky, and logic defying aside from the most unusually creative people in a city full of weird! Makes the reader feel like they are actually living the whole Mardi Gras experience minus the booze and beads. (Props you can add as you read if desired!) I laughed. I winced in pain. I shuddered at the cemetery keeper's crudities. I learned so much fascinating history along the way. I reveled that I was missing the smells and sights I want to avoid, but got all the action and fun I craved. In short, I LOVED it and was sorry when it ended. But I know the magic will continue...

This series is so delightful and fun! I have listened to most of the books on audiobook. The narrator is fantastic!! She does all the voices so well. I find myself laughing out loud while listening if I’m taking a walk or cooking in the kitchen.

I have been so excited about the upcoming wedding and so is Franki’s family! She finally has to pin down where she’s going to have it. Franki’s mother and grandmother all get involved. Can’t wait for the book that comes out when she has her wedding, finally! I bet there will be a mystery to solve then too. And perhaps some shenanigans and mishaps along the way…

This book gives you a look behind the scenes during Mardi Gras at the various floats that go on parade. It’s the “dark underbelly” of New Orleans! Very funny! A good mystery that kept me entertained, and of course held my attention throughout. I highly recommend this book series if you like a well written funny cozy mystery.

Audiobook: I enjoyed book 8 of the "Franki Amato Mysteries" series. I appreciated the setting. Once when I was visiting New Orleans, I went on the "Mardi Gras World" tour which explained some of the history and particulars about the crews that put together the floats that were part of the Mardi Gras parade. This story developed that information using an imaginary crew, but it reminded me about that tour. Franki has long been a favorite imaginary private investigator of mine. She has all the characteristics that I like: fierce, independent, and stubborn. The author created a maze-like puzzle which I found challenging to try and figure out the culprit. I'm looking forward to more stories with Franki as the protagonist. Madeline Mrozek's narration was great, and her performance enhanced the story's entertainment. I was given a free copy of the audiobook, and I have voluntarily posted this review.

LOVED this book, as always!!! It has everything! And if you are an Italian, you are laughing out loud and crying…especially if you have ever had an Italian wedding…or planning one! This book has everything, for Mediterranean families - check; Classic Star Trek fans - check; Star Wars fan - check; people you would want to get even with at the office - check; cast of eclectic characters - check and double check!!!! The book has a lot of things going on and is a wonderful quick read. I always say this, but you need to read the entire series. This book can be read as a standalone, but please do yourself a favor and read the series first, you will enjoy it sooo much more, and there are references from other books. Bottom line, LOVED this book!!!

Anather day, another dollar

Or if you're Franki Amato, another day, another murder. In this outing, Franki is fighting a group of descendant from NOLA's casket girls (French maidens sent to the colonies to marry, whose dowry trunks looked like caskets), who are lording it over the Mardi Gras Parade. She knows the murder is one of them, but every time she focuses on one, she's offed with nicotine. And all the while she has to avoid her mother's and Nonna's wedding machinations, her nemesis Ruth'saccusations and a whole slew of zany characters.

Another hilarious story by Ms Andrighetti, that had me in stitches. And the mystery ain't bad either.

If you like Janet Evanovich's Stephanie Plum books, you'll loooove this series.

It’s Marci Gras!!!! Franki is working with her arch nemesis Ruth who is making her life miserable. To make things worse Veronica gives her a gratitude journal to write down things she’s grateful for but she’s having a hard time doing that especially since Glenda’s stripper pole crushed her prized mustang. When Franki gets involved in a case and has to go under in a Krewe for Marci Gras things heat up fast. This book has a great mystery and all the fun, excitement and hilariousness of all of Frankie’s adventures. A definite must read!!!!

It’s Mardi Gras time in New Orleans again and Franki is there to witness a murder! It’s Glenda is her usual self, funny & dressing in next to nothing! Ruth is as annoying as ever and it irks Franki that Veronica seems to get along with her! Bradley is a sweet and sexy as ever! I love Frank and friends but Nonna is priceless and as funny as ever! When the Nonnes and the drag queens get together it’s absolutely hilarious! I really loved this book, this series and this author. I highly recommend this quick funny book! Be prepared to read in one seating because it’s hard to put down!

I was able to read this book as an ARC. It was the first time I read a book in this series and I loved it! Now I need to go and read the previous 7 books. This book is so hilarious. The only thing I wish it had was drawings of all the wonderful floats and costumes. The mystery kept me guessing until the end. If you like cozy mysteries with some comedy thrown in, this book is definitely for you!

Another laugh riot! Perfect excuse to ignore the news media :)
The first victim dies checking out a pole dancing pole at the greasing of the poles and the investigation includes all family craziness and French Quarter craziness we've come to expect and anticipate in this hilarious series.
I love the way Madeline Mrozek brings the whole atmosphere as well as the characters' personalities into the work! Fantastic read!

This was so hard to finish. Franki is extra negative and can’t stop calling other people names (communist/commie) and negatively judges peoples appearances (Ruth’s neck and Chandra’s butt). I am officially done with this series.

A greased ole event leads to a string of poisonings that Franki work hard to solve, then the momma and the nonne's invade to pick the reception site or Franki and Bradley's wedding. Insanity 0revails but in the end the killer is caught and an unexpected venue is selected.
