This book consists of 50 brief reviews of movies the author has designated as "twisterns" or twisted westerns. These are movies that defy the timeworn western formula where the good guy beats the bad guy and rides off into the sunset with the blonde lady. Each of these movies throws the viewer a knuckleball with the addition of an unusual element: in these oddball oaters the cowboy could find himself up against dinosaurs, aliens, zombies, samurai, or even vampires (as in the abysmal Billy the Kid vs Dracula).
The reviews are kept as short as possible but still contain a lot of trivia pertaining to the movie being reviewed. Knight is pretty good about not spoiling the movie too much. The list of movies is not exhaustive, as I can think of several titles not listed here, but to make up for that there are a few titles listed I was not familiar with.
As you might expect, a lot of these flicks bombed at the box office but there are a few in here that are very good movies indeed. This one is worth the read if you happen to be a rabid fan of the western movie.
