The chilling true account of the vicious 1986 murder of Mike Turpin, who was killed by his beautiful, cocaine-addicted wife, her lesbian girlfriend, and a male accomplice--an innocent victim caught in a deadly web of drugs, lust, and greed.
The book description calls it 'chilling' and it certainly is, with young people making bad decisions at every turn. It also refers to the murderous wife and her lesbian girlfriend, but I got the impression that the wife was hanging out with her for the free drugs rather than any romantic reasons. Longer than many books of this type, but it never drags. The crime took place over thirty years ago and I had assumed that the principals would be be out of prison by now, but I looked them up online and was happy to learn that they are all still incarcerated.
When a book is based on a true story, you know it's going to be good. This particular one was no exception. It was incredibly easy to get lost in its pages; the story was chilling and utterly enthralling. I would advise those with heart conditions to read with caution because fuck this book was physically painful. I almost wanted to finish reading it sooner.
I graduated from high school with Beth and felt like I knew her pretty well. Therefore I was very interested in this case and that is why it has the high rating. I read it so long ago but plan on reading again soon. It is heartbreaking to think of the murder.
