Saving Maggie

Rate this book
Newspaper reporter Maggie Kendall has a psychic gift – or a curse: The missing violently dead call for her to find them. Her ability incites a serial killer to play games with her, sending her an invitation in a pink envelope every time he kills and daring her to find his victims.

But when the killer moves the bodies without leaving a trace, Maggie is denounced as the worse kind of charlatan – a psychic fake who feeds off the pain of other peoples’ tragedies.

Just the sort of person that Detective Joshua Tyler hates the most. He’s been hounded by reporters and fake psychics since his emotionally disturbed wife disappeared two years earlier. He reacts angrily when Maggie offers a message from his wife. But he can’t help being attracted to her even as she infuriates him.

The killer believes that Maggie is that one special person he’s been searching for – someone who can read his mind. Only her death can bind them together forever.

Maggie knows he’s going to kill her, and she knows why. But how can she make Tyler believe her? She needs him to join her in a race against an experienced and determined killer to save her life…

I really enjoyed this romantic suspense. It kept me at the edge of my seat and was very hard to put down. This is also No. 9 of Running To Love box set. Maggie's has gotten a bad rap for her physic visions and is trying to stay ahead of a killer. There was little dashes of humor in this, which lightened some of the darkness in it. I really want to read more of this author's work.

I was not sure about this book based on the Goodreads rating, but I actually liked it (for the most part). The big thing you need to understand when you go into the book is that it's really a mystery/suspense book with a romance sort of thrown in there. Gosh, I would even say it's almost a clean romance. There's maybe a few sentences in there that I would consider "spicy." But the book stays on the up and up for almost the entire time. What you're really getting is a cat and mouse type suspense mystery with an obsessed serial killer and his prey (the female MC). Plus, there's a detective trying to solve the case (the male MC), but he's having a hard time with it because of all the wacky aspects surrounding the female MC, the case, and their connections.

Disgraced newspaper reporter Maggie Kendall ran to a small town after a series of terrible incidents in Toronto forced her to leave and chance her name. Now, she's living the small town life under a different name where she bought her own newspaper and is doing well. She has this psychic gift that most people don't know about: people who were violently killed call to her to find them. But at this point, she's just trying to live her life...that is until she starts getting pink envelops from a serial murder who has been hounding her. When he strikes in the small town, she becomes a person of interest because of her knowledge of the victim through her psychic gift. The hot detective shadows her everywhere, wanting to know more, but how do you explain to someone about the craziness that is Maggie's life? Especially when the detective's own wife is one of the victim's calling to Maggie...

Detective Joshua Tyler hates psychics after a bunch of them put him through the ringer when his wife disappeared. So, when Maggie becomes a person of interest in a murder case, and he finds out about her supposed "ability," he's both doubtful and annoyed, especially when she gives him a message from his wife. Yet, he's drawn to her. Together, they work on trying to solve this case. The problem? More murders pile up, and they all revolve around Maggie. This killer is obsessed with her, and he'll stop at nothing to make sure she's his, especially when Josh because "the other man."

Even though the romance felt like an afterthought, I wasn't annoyed at all. The mystery angle was so interesting that I kept reading even though I'm all about the boink. The pacing was decent. The suspense was excellent. Character chemistry was lacking, but the characterization of the bad guy was amazing. Overall, I thought this one was a solid four. I'm glad I found it, and I do recommend it for mystery/suspense readers. However, if you are looking for a hot and heavy romance, you will not get it with this one.
