Disclaimer: Substitute Bride used to be under my pen name Kate Page. I have decided to get rid of Kate Page to simplify my life. So I am republishing it under the name Ruth Ann Nordin.
Book description:
Kevin Edwards stands to inherit one million dollars. The catch? He must get married by Valentine’s Day. With only a month to spare, he seeks out the first woman who catches his interest: Tammy. But his best friend, Alexandra (Alex) Dixon is convinced he’s making the biggest mistake of his life. So she decides she will take Tammy’s place and be his bride instead. Can she convince him that things will be much better if they become more than friends or will he say “I do” to the wrong woman?
What's to say? I write a lot. I read often. I sleep little. Once in awhile, I've been known to clean the house. A number of kids live in my house and there's this guy they call dad and I call husband. All in all, it's a pretty good life. :-)
While I knew it was going to be a typical fake marriage romance (from the blurb), but it was rather unromantic. Characters weren't fleshed out and the plot didn't keep my interest.
This book was a quick and cute read. Kevin needed a wife by Valentine's day in order to get the money his aunt left him. First he needed to find someone. Alex was Kevin's best friend since kindergarten and he asked her to help him find a bride. Alex started to help him but he went with someone that she would not have chosen. Did Kevin find a bride in time? Was she the right person? Was Alex really ok with her best friend getting married to someone he didn't really know?
I'm embarrassed to note that I read this book. The plot was a cute idea-I enjoy a good marriage of convenience romance. Unfortunately, this book was very underdeveloped. The characters were shallow and the dialogue fell flat. To be fair, I've read another book by this author and it was better.
I wasn't sure I wanted to read this book, but I did and it isn't bad. The cover surely caught my eyes first. While reading the book I definitely was going back and forth on how I felt about the book but I came to the conclusion that is just a cute read. The intimacy isn't extreme with what I'm use to but the story was sweet. While reading I keep forgetting they were in college, but they are still grown enough, 22 yrs. It didn't bother me though because they surely seem mature.
Alex and Kevin have been best friends since kindergarten and they’ve never seen each other as more than that. Kevin will inherit a large sum of money. All he has to do is marry someone. The woman he picks to marry is Tammy, what a troll. As it gets close to the wedding date Kevin starts to see that Alex is the one he wants to marry. With the help of friends pushing Alex towards Kevin both became explosive once they were together.
While reading, I did enjoy there friends, Greg and Camden cracked me up. They always hang out together with Alex and Kevin. Nita is Alex's best friend , she helps to vamp up Alex's looks to get her out of her Tom boy phase. And then there is Trent, sexy bad boy Trent, who help Alex to make Kevin jealous. As I said before, I wasn't sure about this read, I was feeling maybe a 3 star read but as I continued the story really grew on me. The humor had me smiling and it's softer than what I'm use to but all the characters were lovable. ******Reviewed by (Romance Novel Junkies Book Reviews) LIKE us on fb as well as join our group which includes author's and readers Romance Novel Junkies has 550+ members.
Storyline FAIR Intimacy: FAIR Enjoyment: FAIR
Fair is still good to me it's not bad and it's not great.
Substitute Bride by Ruth Ann Nordin Alexandra 'Dixon is just one of the guys. Hanging out, playing and watching sports, etc. When her friend Kevin needs to marry within a month to get an inheritance his aunt left him, Alex tries to help him pick the right gal but he picks one that is all wrong for him and their friendship. Now Alex has to decide how far she’ll go to stop this marriage….even if it includes acting like a girl.
Kevin Edwards can’t imagine his life without his best friend Alex. He has chosen to marry Tammy as she’s pretty and he already likes her. He don’t believe he’ll lose Alex as a friend, he won’t allow it. Goes to show you how little this guy understands about the workings of the inner minds when it comes to women!
Ruth once again brings to life some lovable characters….and an the unlovable ones as well. This was a shorter book to read but lacking in nothing. Once again showing the reader that sometimes the best things are right in front of us….so close we can’t see them. **Sexual situations within marriage http://justjudysjumbles.blogspot.com/...#
Last night I had insomnia yet again, so decided to read instead of tossing and turning. This was a book I found on my Nook with the same title as the book I read yesterday on my Kindle. However, this book is by Ruth Ann Nordin, and the storyline was much different than the other "Substitute Bride" by Carol Hutchens. Now I have read a few of Ms. Nordins books so knew this would be a fun read in the middle of the night. Like the other book "Substitute Bride" this was a fun story, it took me about 3 hours to read this book so it was a quick read. It entertained me through the night and the wee small hours of the morning. I finished it about 3 o'clock. Thereafter, I fell asleep around 4 o'clock, got up at 8 o'clock, and am very tired today.
I gave this book 3*** because "it helped me make it through the night." It was just another "Mind Candy" story, however, when they were watching football and eating potato chips, I just had to have some Potato Chips also for my reading comfort snack food. As I said before this book is part of my Nook Library.
Kevin stands to inherit a million dollars - but only if he can find a wife. when he tells his best friend, Alexandra, she tries to help him, but none of her suggestions are any good. And then he hits on the perfect wife; the attractive Tammy Vance.
Alex knows that Tammy will try to ruin their friendship, but Kevin won't listen. What starts as a bid to save their friendship turns into something more, and soon Alex wants him to marry her - not just to save their friendship, but because she WANTS him. The question is, does he want her? Or does he just want the money?
This was an enjoyable read with plenty of steamy scenes and also a lot of humor. Tammy is the perfect catty villain, and you can't help but cheer for Alex as she bests her time and again. The only complaint I have is that I'd like to see some more of Trent ;) *hint*hint*
I very much enjoyed Substitute Bride. I have many of Ms Nordin's books and must say this is one of my favorites. It is so nice to read a book that although shows an intimate relationship exists, that isn't the whole story or shall I say the story doesn't exist simply to showcase the sex.
Thank you Ms. nor in, keep up the good work. Would be great to see more of these characters, pretty please?
I was not sure how I felt about trying a contemporary romance, but this one was cute. Kevin has to marry to inherit $1 Million. Well after going through the list of availables with Alex (his best friend, short for Alexandra) he settles on Tammy. Well Tammy makes Alex realize that maybe there is more to this than just friendship!
So no premarital sex! But the sex is graphic! And the romance is almost nonexistent. The gimmick of the inheritance is OK. But there is no chemistry! no Thanks!
