D005 has been a part of a secret government program known as the Delta Project her entire life. She has been genetically modified to be stronger, faster, smarter and to heal faster. Trained in hand-to-hand combat, weaponry and battle tactics, she has been worked to physical and mental exhaustion every day of her life. Raised without love or care of any kind, she has no idea what it means to be happy – to be free. And now she has run away. But then she wakes up on the rocky shore of the Missouri River with no memory of how she got there, or why there are bullet wounds, scratches and bruises riddling her body. Her entire past has become a blank sheet except for a recurring nightmare of her running through the woods with dogs chasing her and voices shouting at her that she can never hide. As she struggles to understand the kind of life she has never had, emotions she has never felt before, and the mystery of her past, she is helped by Brianna Hartman and Reid Phelps – the two teenagers who discover her. When she goes to live with Brianna at the Hartman Ranch, she must also learn to deal with Bri’s brother, the gruff Cormac Hartman, who is running from his own past. He seems to hate her from the word go, but when she discovers his crude attitude is just his way of dealing with the hurt he is feeling, she decides to make it her mission to draw him back into life. Then a mysterious stranger comes to the ranch and her new world comes crashing down around her as her past comes back to haunt her.
Jessica Jaster lives in Iowa with her husband and her (currently) one year old and two year old. She has always had an over-active imagination and has been making stories up in her head for herself for as long as she can remember and finally decided to start writing them down (when she is not busy chasing the two little ones around anyway) and sharing them with anyone interested. Most ideas she has so far for her novels are for young adults, some fantasy, some science fiction and some normal contemporary story-lines.
Ms. Jaster is definitely a very promising author for us. I received a copy of this book from the author for an honest review. This story kept me on the edge of my seat wanting Weston to have all the joys of living a real life, not the one meant for her thru the Delta Project that was set for her. The story pulls you in wanting you to ask for the next book in the series. D005 has been trained to follow all of Commander’s orders. When she feels one of his commands is not the right thing to do, she disobeys him and is set up to be exterminated. Knowing that those before her never come back, she decides to take off and ends up injured only to be found by Bri and Reid. When Bri’s brother, Mac comes into the picture and they take her into their home, Weston is given a new name and feels she has a family she never had. But since her accident, she suffers from amnesia and has constant nightmares not sure if they are memories or not. She has a bond with Mac that they share silently but know they have similar connections to each other in loss. I for one cannot wait till the next book comes out.
I was approached by the author, Jessica Jaster to review this book. I thought it sounded interesting and it was releativley short, so I thought "Why Not?" Well, let me tell you something: THIS BOOK WAS AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!! I am not even kidding it was AWESOME!!!!!!!!
Best Part of Book: D005 is amazing! But after she excapes the Delta Project, she remembers nothing. Bri and Reid (Bri's best friend) find her and after some talking to Bri's older brother, Mac, D005 end up on their ranch. Well, D005 doesn't remember anything so Bri and her come up with a "new name" for D005. She becomes, Weston! (Because Bri found her in Weston Park). Well, as the story progesses Mac and Weston become closer. Oh I just love Mac and the way he looks out for his family! Weston proves time and time again that she can do any tasks. She really begins to open up and begins to feel for the people around her. Well, you know that isn't going to last long. It wasn't too long before the Delta Project Commander "finds" D005. Then it gets really GOOD!!!!!!
Not so great about the book: THE ENDING!!!!!!!!! UGH!!!!!!!! Darn cliffhangers!! I was so into the book that I didn't even realize that I was on the last page. I actually thought that something was wrong with my Kindle. I even re-download the book to make sure that it downloaded correctly!!! I was so upset that it just ended. But, (thank the stars) Jessica Jaster explain that book too will be out in the summer of 2013!! Even though that is a long wait, I cannot wait!!
This is a great book and a fast read!! Jessica Jaster really pulls you into a wonderful world of characters!!
I bought this book and it was so worth it. I loved this story. The story is about D005 or Jane Westeon who is part of a government project. It is called Delta Project and she is genetically modified. D005 is trained in combat and to have no emotions. She flees the project and then has to learn to live and feel on her own with the help of her new found family. She stays with Bri and Reid and soon meets swoon worthy Cormac Hartman and the three of them try to help her. This story is an action packed adventure that grabs your attention from the very beginning and keeps you on the edge of your seat. It is a page turner. I was totally captivated.
Publisher: Unsure (I believe the novel is self published and available through Amazon, but I am not sure. There is no official word from me.) Age: Young Adult Interest: Requested Review/ Interesting Plot Source: Copy from Author
I was given a copy of The Delta Project: Hide by Jessica Jaster in exchange for an honest review.
The Delta Project was a good book I was able to read in just a few hours. D005 (AKA Weston) was a sweet and endearing character. I loved the more naive aspects of her personality, all that she had to learn. She wasn't child-like, although her enthusiasm and humor translated into an adorable kid-ish excitement. Her intelligence and special skills were interesting to see out as they popped up. Girl power all the way! For a thriller-sounding novel, the book was extremely light and made me happy.
I almost wish there had been a little bit more danger or suspense in the book, but I loved it just as it was. More might have actually caused me to not like The Delta Project as much. It was a perfectly light read and I loved it that way.
Of Weston's friends, Bri, Reid, Cormac, etc. only one really stood out. Former solider, hot cowboy, tough exterior with gooey marshmallow insides and an overdeveloped sense of responsibility Cormac Hartman come on down. *Sigh* what a dreamy, steamy guy. The only issues I had with him were his past, which seemed a little bit too much to pile on his shoulders and the quick way he jumped into kissy face after being distant for so long.
I wanted more information about the Delta project behind the scenes, like why these kids were being trained, who started the project etc. There has to be a very interesting story behind all of the fuss. I'm looking forward to hopefully meeting more Deltas in the next book, like Weston's brother, D006.
A few problems with The Delta Project took me out of the story. There were two or three minor spelling errors. I didn't like how Weston lost something very early on and suddenly regained it in the nick of time. The story didn't seem to have a set pace. It felt similar to scenes which were casually connected given the time gaps that happened. For instance, two weeks would pass, but only one or two scenes would be shown of it. Not every second has to be accounted for but, large gaps of time with barely any explanation rub me the wrong way.
The Delta Project: Hide was a great novel that I sincerely enjoyed. It would be perfect for young teens or anyone with a free afternoon. The pages simply fly by. It is a simple but adorable story of one extraordinary girl learning how to live an ordinary life. Those who enjoy contemporary, but wouldn't mind a little light action/genetic breeding would love this book. Also, HOT COWBOYS. That has always been a wonderful motivator.
Teaser Lines: "If she were to die, it would be out here. Not that she wanted to die. She really didn’t. She just felt suddenly like she needed, wanted more. There had to be more to life besides the constant training, orders, the rules, having every move you ever made watched and recorded. There had to be more. More what she didn’t know, but she wanted it."
ARGH!! Yeah, that is me mad that this book had to end...With only 182 pages, I really would have loved another couple of hundred just so I could stay wrapped up in these characters....I mean, WOW!! Just WOW!!! Jessica Jaster has written a tale that from the minute you start reading the prologue, you are HOOKED!! Delta Project: Hide centers around one particular heroine that has genuinely blown me away. D005, Jane, Weston...yeah, she goes by all those names...why, you say?? Well, you are going to have to read this FANTASTIC book to find out....But, to continue on, Weston is such a well developed, strong, interesting, intriguing, unique character that I have immediately connected with. You are drawn in to her struggles, you are just as curious about her past as she is, you are pulled in to deciphering exactly what it is she is capable of doing, and just ultimately captivated by this young woman. Her interactions with the new people in her life like Bri, Reid, and the reserved, good-looking Cormac keep you on your toes and have you biting your nails for what is coming next. Wonderfully written, with suspenseful and enthralling events that keep you entranced all the way through...giving you just enough at vital points to satisfy your questions, but yet keeping you totally engrossed in what is still to come... Yet..Alas, the end did come and it left me wanting soooo much more...Truly dying here waiting for the next installment.. HIGHLY RECOMMEND...Don't miss out on this one!! www.tsktskwhattoread2.blogspot.com
This YA story immediately drew me in. We meet D0005 as she is being forced into a compromising unethical position. Her decision puts her on the run with a temporary loss of memory. She meets a wonderful family who takes her in as she tries to recover her memories and identity.
This new author has done a wonderful job creating an interesting, although familiar story with very likable characters. I am taken in by D0005 and her love interest, “Mac.” I really liked the time spent focusing on D0005’s integration into this family as she struggles with PTSD symptoms.
At times the story was predictable, but overall enjoyable. I wished the author had used more of an active voice in telling the story. I think it would have made it even stronger. I really wanted to rate this book stronger and wish I could give it a 3.5 star rating, but due to the few issues previously mentioned, I am rating it 3-stars.
Anyone who enjoys YA romance with a twist of mystery and intrigue thrown in will find this story an excellent read. I will definitely be on the watch for the sequel to this book.
Well written YA novel! I was quickly drawn into this story! It starts out with D005 running for her life causing her to fall over a cliff!
How do you continue from there? Well, you have her discovered by two friends who get her help and adopt her when they discover she has lost her memory. It is really cute how D005 tries to understand the idiosyncrasies of different phrases.
Mac's standoffish attitude is understandable and it is so sweet when he tries to find ways to help Weston (as that is the name D005 chose for herself) get through her nightmares. Loved the way he deals with the fear of dogs!
When Weston is recognized and someone from her past does show up, she remembers everything!
She must protect the family she now loves and leaves.
I won't tell you the story, read it! You won't be disappointed!
Wow! This book was far better than I expected it to be. It has a bit of everything in there: mystery, adventure, action, flirtation, and even some witty banter. You meet D005 at the Delta Project. Think a young Leeloo from Fifth Element mixed with a little Sydney Bristow from Alias. In other words, she is a bad ass! Circumstances arise that causes D005 to depart quickly, but she doesn't leave without incident and ends up losing her memory in the process.
I have fallen in love with all of the characters, and my heartstrings were pulled on multiple occasions.
The book is a quick read, well thought out, and easy to follow. Jessica does a very good job of painting a picture with her words...and she has left me craving more! I cannot wait to read the next book in the series!
D005 has been trained since birth to become the ultimate warrior. After failing a test, her controllers order she be eliminated, but she turns on her executioners and escapes.
Riddled with bullets she plunges into the Missouri River, later washing up on the river bank where she is discovered by Brianna. Suffering amnesia, all that remains of her previous life is vivid nightmares.
Delta Project: Hide is very good Young Adult fiction. It's rough around the edges, as you would expect from an independently released novel, but the story grabs your attention from the start and flows well. I had a lot of fun reading this book.
Many thanks to Jessica Jaster and The Indie Bookshelf for providing me with this book
I received this book for free in return for an honest and unbiased review. I gave Delta Project: Hide 5 stars because a first time author it was a great read! The main character who comes to be called Weston is brilliant! she is unlike most fictional characters you will read about and its refreshing! Her Relationship with Cormac is beyond cute although the sexual tension throughout the book is killer! Its like just get it on already! I can't wait to read the second book in the series and I really hope it is as successful!
The only minor point I could make against it is it needs some severe editing but what so you expect from an indie author!
After barely escaping The Delta Project, D005 finds herself shot, battered, and bruised, washed up on the riverbank. She has no memory of who she is, or where she came from. Taken in by Brianna and Cormac after a inhumanly speedy recovery, she chooses to be known as Weston. While staying with Bri and Mac, she learns how to be a "normal" teenage girl- playing card games, running with her friends, even falling in love. But a stampede on the ranch turns her whole world upside down. Can she just run? Will she be able to leave her best friends, and new found love behind? I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book, and certainly can't wait for book 2, Rescue, to be released!!!
10*s. I recieved an eARC copy of this book directly from the author in return for an honest review. WOW, what an amazingly heart warming story. I was hooked from beginning to end. I really loved the charatcers and was able to relate to Weston in the story. This is a MUST read story that will capture your heart and soul, but be warned a box of tissues is necessay. Thank you, Jessicaq Jaster, for this awesome story that I will re-read and cherish for a lifetime and I am excited to read more!!!
This was a great read, I occasionally found the way they spoke slightly amusing because now days we all shorten words but I thoroughly enjoyed the story and the concept and have already started book 2. The relationship between Weston and Mac was nice and I hope they are able to explore it in future books. It is interesting how people are able to affect and shape other people around them in different ways.
Thank you Mary for recommending this book. It was great! Mary said you didn't realize it was the end when the book ended and I have to agree. The ending just sneaks up on you and you won't want it to be the end. I loved Mac. He is protective of his family but really starts to open up with Weston. I can't wait to read the next book!
Jessica did an outstanding job here with her debut novel "Delta Project: Hide". It 'grabbed' my attention right from the beginning page. The character D005 is fantastic and I love how she learns emotion. Thrilling with all the twists and turns and action. Now I have to wait until summer for book 2, UGH! I want to read it now.
The synopsis of the book was pretty interesting, so I decided to give it a go. ...and wasn't disappointed. From the beginning if this book it captivated me, and I didn't want to put it down. There was too much on the line and I couldn't have the characters stuck on hold like that!
I absolutely loved this book and cannot wait to read the sequel. The story unfolded in such a way that kept me captivated and wanting to know what was going to happen next. (I stayed up way too late reading it and woke up way too early to finish it!) It kept well within the young adult genre and I really appreciated reading a story about a girl who was tough and vulnerable, but not a damsel in distress. Weston could take care of herself, but she still had that vulnerability that made her well-rounded and likeable. Jessica Jaster excelled at creating a believable world of secret organizations that contrasted well with the backdrop of cattle country Missouri. There was almost a "cloud" that hung over the scenes with the organization. It was great!
I enjoyed this story about a mysterious girl that shows up on the beach one day wearing a silver suit and a bracelet with a triangle and 5 dots, having been shot multiple times and with amnesia. She was taken in by Bri and her brother Mac since she had no idea where she came from. As her memory continues to have holes in it, her abilities become more revealing of things in her past and that they may not be normal things. Weston becomes closer to Bri and Mac and the rest of the ranch crew, and worries that her past will endanger them someday. The synopsis caught my attention and the book didn't let me down, I was intrigued from page one and found the characters to be very realistic.
