Addison 1st edition by Hale, Leon published by Doubleday Hardcover

Addison was more than the sum of his parts. A thirty-year-old army man, a womanizer, high-liver, some-time hell-raiser, Addison was an original. He stood for things. Like honor, friendship, and self-respect. And love. And Sarah. And how he loved Sarah! To hear Addison tell it, you'd think no man had ever known how to love a woman before in the entire history of the world. And Addison did tell it, his love for Sarah, almost making a gift of it to his tentmates, three homely loners whose good luck it was to be bivouacked with him. Addison shared Sarah with them, read them his letters to her and hers to him, showed them her pictures, and described how they made love. And slowly the miracle began to happen as three misfits who'd never known a moments's love found themselves bathed in it day and night. For now, they wrote their own touching, pathetic, and strangely dignified love letters to a girl forever out of reach (except in dreams) and, perhaps for the first time, began to love themselves, just a little bit. When the glorious adventure of knowing Addison came to its sudden end, something was left over for everybody. It would have pleased him greatly to know that three unlikely acolytes would be passing on his message about love, honor, friendship and self-respect to others not fortunate enough to have known a man called Addison.
