Rate this book
Bernie Dupree held a very high position in purchasing with the James Scott and Company food supplier. He mastered several positions prior to arriving at the Springfield, MO caves. Before distribution could take place the right products had to be purchased and Bernie was considered the best in the business. The entire operation was underground. Sales, communications, support, and the hard part, distribution. His wife Connie inherits lots of money and feels it is really hers. Bernie disappears and Connie calls their best friend from college days, Frank Hawthorn. He was the owner of the Hawthorn Detective Agency and vows to find Bernie. He never dreamed how far a field the case would take him nor the possibilities he would encounter in the deep dark caves of Springfield, MO. Could Bernie Dupree be a frozen lump buried in the crevices of the cold freezer locker in the bowels of the caves?

This book is the report of what happened when an old friend from college days calls Detective Frank Hawthorn. He is flattered that the individual called because she had been "The Girl" in his group of friends. Bernie Dupree was also a friend and he had been the main objective in the girls situation during college. Now Connie was calling him.
He asked, "It's good talking to you Connie, but maybe you had better tell me again why you're calling."
"Bernie's missing! He works in the caves for The James Scott and Company and he's missing Frank, has been for four days and no body will give me the time of day down at the office."
"I suppose you want me to come find Bernie...is that right?"
"Yes Frank, you have to come. You're my last hope."
From there Frank leaves New York City headed for Springfield, Missouri and the underground caves that house the food service supplier to find his friend Bernie Dupree. What he finds is not a pretty site, but it will leave you turning pages as fast as you can to see just what this is all about.
