This is another wonderful book by Tom Wright. He has an excellent way of explaining Biblical themes and concepts. Having this book through Lent and Easter has deepened my appreciation of the Lord’s journey to Cross and what it all means to a Christian’s faith. Would highly recommend this devotional.
I have to confess that I have never read N.T. Wright’s academic publications, but his ‘For Everyone’ books are just that; for everyone. Tom Wright has the knack of presenting concepts and ideas in a way which is thoughtful, knowledgeable and insightful but manageable for anyone, from the academic to the lay person with only the most basic of understanding of the Christian message.
This book, based on its structure and title, is obviously intended to be read on a daily basis through the season of Lent and Easter. It provides a guide though the major concepts of this time using short scripture passages and a related teaching for each day. I may have made this sound a dry sort of read – it is anything but: it is accessible and enlightening and truly excellent. The problem is that each section is so good that rather than pause and reflect, you are drawn to continue to the next day’s reading, but that can hardly be considered a negative point!
