Treasured historical satire, played out in two very different socio-economic worlds of 16th-century England, focuses on two young look-alikes Edward, the Prince of Wales, and Tom Canty, a street beggar. When both youngsters decide to trade clothes and roles, they find their lives drastically altered. This timeless tale of transposed identities remains one of Twain's best-loved novels.
In anticipation of another musical on the horizon, my daughter and I (separately this time), read the only version of Twain's famous story that my school has! Despite it being a "young" edition, it was still enjoyable because Twain is a genius story constructor! Great design that sets up great social commentary.
I was already quite familiar with this story but I'd never actually read it before. I came across this book for free and decided to give it a go. It's intended for children as it's formatted but it was still an enjoyable read for an adult. Perhaps a good choice to read with kids if you like to read bedtime stories in segments. A good read indeed.
