Based on the life of a 17th century philosopher, this historical drama tells the story of a brilliant man whose logical mind wrestled with his passionate, even libertine, soul. The story is told against the backdrop of a European culture in which religion collided with silence, darkness with light, and ignorance with enlightenment. A philosopher who fought duels, gambled, re-invented science, and ultimately found his fate intertwined with that of a European monarch--a Queen who was a feminist centuries ahead of her time.
