I am wondering what happened to the couple that we saw in the first volume in chapter 5. Were they there for some reason or are they not there anymore? I am confused, but this volume was good as well. We follow the two main high schoolers who are now in a relationship and this is where their relationship has their first fight. It was kind of a misunderstanding and it gets solved very easily and I liked that. They also gain a friend who knows about their relationship and I think that will help them in the future!
I want to read the love story that the friend has in the next volume!
They have their first miscommunication fight in this one, but I enjoyed it since their insecurities are realistic and beneath them they still deeply care for each other.
Also, we get a new character that's both charming and an ✨️ally✨️. It's nice to have someone that actually knows they're dating.
Where's the muscle fetish couple at? I wanted more of them tbh. Fingers crossed for a third volume to drop.
So, this will be a 8/10 overall, though in some places it was a 7/10.
Vol 1 was cute & vol 2 is angsty! I loved this cute couple so of course I read this. Not knowing what it had in store for me... 😅. I read this in 1hr 30min over 2days!
With addition of another guy, Takeo. The sports festival, dance. Jealousy, secrets, promises, insecurities. It hurts & it's angsty! But there is ✨drama✨.
I guess, in some ways it was needed so Shingo isn't an idiot in future yet I get why he thought what he thought, even if it was wrong. I did like that he didn't accuse So of cheating exactly but from what I could understand it was his own feeling that it could've been anyone in his place. It was needed as Ao needed to understand that keeping secrets is bad, even if they feel like small ones, as they can become big misunderstanding. They better make good future choices!
Despite the issues, the distance, I liked that Shingo didn't think it'll end them 😂. Also, the resolution was very satisfactory! It's emotional 🥹. They're only in HS so I forgive them for being immature & making stupid mistakes 👍. After all, they did maturely talk of it later. Spice is hence low in this one, but it's there & feels are high.
Takeo may have gotten a bi awakening there lol 😂. I'm curious to read his book but the comments on it seem to be mixed so we'll see!
Comic rating: Vol 1+2 1) The Characters: 5/5 2) Story: 😯😅😂😏🫢😍🫠🥹🥰😁😔🫣😥😮💨🙁😳🥹🥰 3) Art: 4.5/5 (not colored) 4) Sexy/Steamy scenes: Yes, more in Vol. 1
This was cute but I did hate the miscommunication/misunderstanding I’m happy it didn’t last for too long cause their so cute and I would have hated if they broke up

EEK! The sequel is here!!! And they dropped it all at once?? I was expecting to have to read the chapters weekly, but I forgot futekiya drops full volumes too. AND they translated the lil bonus doujin like I was hoping they would. I'm really hoping futekiya translates the spin off sequel too with Takeo and Wakou. PLUS unrelated to this series, but related to Minta GOLDEN SPARKLE IS GETTING A PHYSICAL TRANSLATION!!! I hope this means more of Minta's works getting translations and physical publications. Their work is so good and I'm sure it would do really well in stores. I'm so excited for a lot of new titles and my preorder list only grows larger.
I am on a high right now on good reading content haha. I love Minta's work a lot. The art is so cute!! I love the rounder facial features, especially the profiles. Noda and Shikke also have that sort of style. It just makes everything so much cuter, but they also draw amazing smut? The contrast is great. This whole thing made me so giddy and happy. Shingo is such a precious bean. The only reason this isn't 5 stars is because their conflict was honestly a little silly. They were being dramatic dumb teens, but like I get it!! I know why it happened, but like they're so dumb. Stupid idiots. I love them. Anyway, this is great. Just a good feel good series with some mild angst.
Again, something that I typically don't like: another character coming in for a significant amount of page time, including substantial one-on-one bonding with one of the mains from the first volume. But in this case, it improves the second volume a lot for me, because I really like Takeo.
I think it's Shingo I'm just not that attached to. Takeo's muppet line made me laugh a lot; I can't take the guy too seriously, I guess? I like friendly, enthusiastic, welcoming characters, but I need them to show a bit more depth. Shingo's trying - I like that he's giving Ao space initially, doing his best to respect Ao's attempts to do things on his own, and then stepping in to help him through his trauma recovery in a way that will combine support with progress on getting past his fears. Although...we don't actually see any of that. All the chapters after the misunderstanding gets sorted are kinda them going back to the horny dating stage, which tends to bore me if there's no character development included.
They are a bit better in this volume, with some better communication, although I still don't like how much Ao is struggling to actually share his feelings with Shingo. Shingo didn't expressly tell Ao to cut off his other relationships, and I don't think he really would've asked for or expected that even in the height of his insecurity, but it's a bad sign that Ao felt like he couldn't have other friends if he wanted to keep Shingo in his life. He was actually having fun with Takeo, and it's not right for Shingo to get that petty and jealous about it.
Another issue: Shingo's inability to come up with any concrete reasons for why he likes Ao. That scene's meant to be funny, but it's exactly what I'm struggling with while reading, because I can't identify those parts either.
Why did Shingo fall in love with Ao so fast, and confess to him so abruptly? He has all that insecurity about someone else having met Ao first, learning his secret, and getting him to rely on them, and Ao falling for and dating them...but isn't it kind of the other way around? What if Shingo had met someone else who was super attractive and clung to him out of fear and needed his protection? What if that cute girl at the end of the volume had been interested in him, and he hadn't talked to Ao?
When Shingo does come up with a list later on, he still doesn't say a whole lot, or at least not much of substance. It's mostly focused around Ao's looks, which Ao even points out. (And all he ever wants to do when they hang out is physical stuff.) Meanwhile, Ao's list is actually very pinpointed to Shingo's personality. It makes their relationship seem on the underdeveloped, less mature side.
I've also realized that - in volume 1 especially - Shingo reminds me a lot of Aoki from My Love Mix-Up, but a less well-rounded version. (Maybe because Aoki has so many volumes to grow.) So he's really where I'm stalling out on the like-not-love with this particular series.
Suzumaru is great at one-shots, but this is one where it didn't totally work and needed more space to slowly progress into a full relationship. Shingo kinda needed to grow up more. It's a sweet first romance, but I'm not entirely convinced it has staying power.
Takeo, though, I do love. He's loud and bull-headed but actually very thoughtful and kind. He pays attention to people; he picked up the lightning thing right away, and put the pieces together about Ao and Shingo with so little information to go on. He's smart and funny and I'm really glad he got a spinoff of his own. He reminds me a bit of the similarly loud-but-kind guy from Twilight Out Of Focus's second couple, which I loved, so it's pretty easy to start narrowing down my types. For me, he and the random couple from Volume 1 are really the selling points of this particular series.
I love my babies so much 💖😭💖 They’re so dumb but sweet 😩
First of all, I continue in my journey where I don’t hate the miscommunication trope, so I quite enjoyed myself while reading this. Both Shingo and Ao struggle to fully communicate what they need to, and it leads to more angst and distance between them that wouldn’t have been there if they had just been patient and had a robust conversation. I don’t care tho 😂 I like to see my babies suffer like this. Plus, to me its only logical for teenagers to miscommunicate like this.
To be honest, I really enjoyed the whole bit where Shingo is jealous of Takeo because he thinks he has a real chance at stealing Ao away. To me this makes sense from Shingo’s perspective. After all, Shingo is a first year and has the constitution of a cute little puppy, and Takeo is a third year who has built this persona of being cool and talented at many things. So, I can see why Shingo would find it difficult to see Ao spend more and more time with Takeo.
Ultimately, though, of course my babies are completely in love with each other. They’re all pouty and sad in the volume precisely because all they want is to keep hanging out like they were in the summer because they love spending time together. The two of them are always happiest when they’re together. It was such a relief to see them smiling again as they were able to work out the tensions in their relationship.
I just can't get attached to this couple or their storyline. As before, the main thing I like about this volume is the possible-love-triangle new character, an older student named Takeo, who's kind of loud, but in an extroverted, well-meaning, very friendly way, with a slightly inflated sense of self but a genuinely good heart.
Takeo treats Ao like an athletic/popularity rival, which - since it starts to develop into more of a friendship - leads to some misunderstandings and jealousy from Shingo. After all, why does Ao like Shingo? Anyone might've stumbled into his secret fear of lightning and become his literal shelter in a storm...and indeed, Takeo does fill that role for Ao a little bit.
So why are the two of them dating? Will they last, or was this just a flash in the pan relationship that will fizzle out to nothing over time?
Honestly........I think it would. I just do not see them lasting, and it's so confusing to me because Minta writes really well-developed relationships with such a depth of connection and love. But I can never get there with these two.
Takeo, though, is a lovely character, and I'm still really hoping Seven Seas will license his spinoff romance, which I much prefer.
Hilarity ensues as Ao ends up looking more than a little friendly with a classmate in his quest to retrieve a charm from Shingo. Meanwhile, rumors are flying around school about Shingo being a cupid for hire, and Shingo himself is reading way too much into things. Add in all of their conflicting schedules between Ao's challenges and Shingo's practices for the school sports day, and it's a small wonder they get so many wires crossed. It seems the boys may unintentionally found another supporter, or at least somewhat grudging acceptance when their relationship is discovered, though most everyone else remains unaware. From the short stories after the main chapter, it would seem to hint the boys stay together through school and even Shingo working, though a good number of the shorts still take place around the time of the main story itself. Confusion and drama aside, these two are oddly adorable with all of their awkwardness when they're on the same page.
